Page 2: @FreshStartFoodsCanada Milton HQ: 1-800-563-5033 Ottawa ... · • RED CURRANTS • GALIA MELONS • CALIFORNIA POMEGRANITE • GREEN OLIVES • FORLELLE PEARS • CARA CARA ORANGE

• POTATOES Crop development is lagging behind across much of North America. Wet weather and cool temperatures are delaying planting and slowing emergence for much of the fall potato crop.

• ONIONS Expect markets to continue to rise through the week as yellow onion demand continues to be active.

• LIMESPeak sizing is moving into the 175/200 count range, but all sizes are abundant. Supplies continue to remain light on large sizes 110’s – 150’s

• LETTUCES ICEBERG - Demand is exceeding supply as extremely warm temperatures in all growing regions this past week caused damage to crops. Yields are lowered as growers deal with internal burn. The overall quality will be fair for the week. Quebec iceberg lettuce has started with light supplies. Expect production to ramp up over the next couple of weeks.ROMAINE / LEAF - The extreme heats experienced last week effected the romaine market. Internal burn has caused yields to belowered and most suppliers are struggling to cover contracts and open market orders. Quebec green leaf, red leaf and romaine have started with fair volume.SPRING MIX, SPINACH & BABY KALESpinach (baby and flat) has reacted to the recent hot weather and has become much tighter due to lower yields caused by this recent heat wave.ROCKET ARUGULA / WATERCRESSArugula supplies are a little on the tight side. Weather has negatively affected the supply of baby red kale and it will not be available for the foreseeable future.

• APPLESImported Royal Galas, Granny Smith and Fujis from Chile are now available. So far prices are holding firm but, most growers believe they will stay strong throughout the season.

• BRUSSELS SPROUTS The brussels sprouts market continues to come off as rain gaps are closing and a little more supply is in the pipeline.

• CELERY The celery market has eased as supplies have increased and demand has eased. Quebec celery is scheduled to start around July 17th, again cool/rainy weather has slowed production.

• CORNAs we move into the American Fourth of July and Canada Day holiday pulls, there will be very limited volume on corn. Local corn will start in about 2 weeks

• AVOCADOSWith Mexico field prices reaching historic levels and lower inventory, we expect the market to remain strong for the foreseeable future.

• GOLD PINEAPPLES Pineapple supplies are now expected to be tight through mid-September due to a common condition called Naturally Differentiated Flowering (NDF).

• MELONCANTALOUPES - There is very good supply on larger fruit (9’s/J9’s) with very light offerings on smaller fruit (15’s).HONEYDEWS - There is a good supply on larger fruit this week. Small fruit (8’s) will remain tight for the next few weeks.

• TOMATOES EAST - Eastern tomato production has improved with better weather conditions. Between Florida and South Carolina, availability on all sizing has evened out as fields begin to move into heavier production.WEST - Tomatoes remain at prices typical for this time of year. Duties are set at 17.56% of the value of tomatoes crossing into the US directly affecting the cost of goods. The added costs for importers will ultimately be reflected in what the consumer pays.

• STONE FRUIT It is the perfect time to promote stone fruit. The fruit is in excellent condition, sugar levels are high and it eats very well. There are several varieties of apricots, peaches, nectarines and plums currently being harvested.

= Local options available

• ASPARAGUSMarkets remain low due to all regions having good volume, but this should change at the end of next week with lighter local supply in play.

• CAULIFLOWER The heat drastically reduced yields and estimates look to remain tight over the next couple of weeks. Quality is good with minor bruising and yellow cast

• MANGOESCurrent sizing is peaking on 10 count followed by 9 count and 12 count. The larger sizes, like 7 and 8 count, are becoming more available in combination with smaller sizes.

• PEARSThe pear market remains steady.

• GRAPEFRUIT Quality out of California is improving but has some occasional scarring. Internal/external color is nice with high brix.

• GARLIC SCAPES - From BC• SEA ASPARAGUS - From BC• SPRUCE TIPS - From BC• WILD ASPARAGUS- From Holland• PORCINI- From Oregon• SUMMER TRUFFLES- From Spain• WINTER TRUFFLES - From Australia• BLUEFOOT - From France• MOREL MUSHROOMS - From BC• CHANTERELLE - From Bulgaria

• EGGPLANT EAST - Quality is excellent and volume exceeds demand by a wide margin.WEST - The eggplant market is currently steady due to limited supplies.

• PEPPERS EAST - Supply is steady, but not over abundant. Quality is spotty from shipper to shipper.WEST - Moderate and good supplies of serrano, green and jalapeños. Light supplies of red peppers.

• CITRUS - LEMONSLemon supplies continue to remain tight on 165’s and smaller. Market prices continue to climb weekly on choice and fancy fruit.

• GREEN ONIONS Green onion supply continues to be plentiful. We expect to see Quebec green onions sometime next week.

• BEANSGreen bean supplies are very tight. Snipped bean supplies are tight and are being pro-rated with good quality and triggered pricing.

• BROCCOLI Broccoli prices have increased as some fields were damaged by the recent heat wave. Ontario bunched broccoli starts around July 1st, with crowns a week later.

• CUCUMBERS EAST - Local field cucumbers will start mid-late July.WEST - A strong market is anticipated to continue.

• WATERMELON The seedless watermelon market remains low as summer demand continues light, but with Canada Day and the US Memorial Day holiday demand will be strong.

• ORANGES Late season Navels are winding down, only a few a more weeks left. Supply has peaked on 72/88. 56 count and larger are becoming increasingly available in the late lane variety. 113/138 count are in tight supply at the moment.

• BERRIES BLUEBERRIESThis commodity will tighten up further into the week as added market pressure comes from the later start of the Pacific Northwest blueberry season.RASPBERRIESThe market is firm and looks to remain steady with possibly higher pricing towards the weekend.BLACKBERRIESThe market is steady and looks to remain firm with higher undertones towards the weekend.STRAWBERRIESLook for pricing to remain steady with slightly higher overtones towards the end of the week, due to Canada Day and July 4th demand.

• ZUCCHINI EAST - Zucchini supplies are spread out all over the place. Pricing is trending higher and will remain steady.WEST -The market in the west could increase due to hotter temperatures in the growing region.

• GRAPES The 2019 Mexican and Coachella grape harvest is now in peak production, with large volumes of both red and green seedless being harvested each day. Grape industry will see extremely heavy grape volumes picked and packed over the 7-10 days.
