    Freshmen Committee 2011-2012VisionA committee that has the utmost dedication and determination to guide and form thefreshman students to a true iskolar ng bayan by being equipped with the basic know-howsas they adjust from the high school lifestyle and into university life, and with the properknowledge and orientation of the roles of an Iskolar ng Bayan in the society and theirintegral role in nation-building.MissionIt is the duty of the committee to facilitate proper provisions through involvement ofprominent persons and groups (e.g. faculty and student organizations), intended toproactively engage the freshmen in their adjustment to their university life. Thefundamental goal of the committee is to ensure the formation of a true iskolar ng bayan.RationaleRegarded as the premiere university in the country, the University of the Philippines isundoubtedly the melting pot of bright minds. Students from all over the country gather herebringing their thoughts that it is here where they can acquire the best possible education inthe nation. Given this, the pool of students that will be entering the university as freshmenis indeed diverse. No one could expect whether these students are prepared in thetransition that they have to go through, since some of them may came from schools whereeverything is provided already for them, or maybe some came from other regions in thecountry causing anxiety to the students that it will be very difficult to adjust because of thenew culture they will be into. Yet, there are also students who might have an easytransition because of the presence of their network of friends and acquaintances staying inthe university.Nevertheless, despite the variety of the situation that may be present among the incomingfreshmen, the University Student Council is responsible to effectively ensure that thestudents are well-supported in terms of their integration into the UP community. It is theliability of the council to introduce to them how things go about inside the university, both inacademics and non-academics. Aside from this, the council is also tasked to develop asense of responsibility among the freshmen as Iskolar ng Bayan.

    The events in the past years had been difficult in gathering efforts for the different activitiesproposed by the committee resulting to the lack of connection to the freshmen. It istherefore an imperative for the University Student Council to build the FreshmanCommittee taking into account the inadequacies of the previous committees, and leaningnowhere aside from its goal that is to integrate and to reach the widest number offreshman students.Objectives* To link local councils and student organizations with the university student council intodeveloping a cohesive plan and program for handling activities and events that will catersolutions to the different needs of the students;* To foster a conducive atmosphere that will guarantee that the freshmen s stay in theuniversity to be accommodating and at the same time that fosters big ideas;

    * To come up with a year-round set of activities geared to ensure the holistic developmentof the freshmen;* To promote critical thinking regarding issues prevalent in the society;* And to form the freshmen into a true Iskolar ng Bayan.StructureFreshman HeadExecutive SecretaryCollege Representatives
