QUESTION:

1. How will Senior HS of the K to 12 Program help in ensuring employment for our graduates?

Answer;

• The K to 12 BEC will be sufficient to prepare students for work. Students will acquire Certificates of Competency and National Certificates in accordance with TESDA (NC 1 for JHS, NC II for SHS)

• There will be school-industry partnership for technical-vocational courses for students to gain work experience while studying, and to be absorbed by the companies

QUESTION: 2. What would be the assurance that the

K to 12 graduates will be employed?

ANSWER:

• Deped has entered into an agreement with business organizations, local and foreign chambers of commerce and industries that graduates of K to 12 will be considered for employment.

• DepEd ensures that “ENTREPRENEURSHIP” is taught and that competencies and standards of Senior HS graduates match with the College Readiness Standards.

QUESTION:

3. How will the K to 12 Program help students intending to pursue college education?

ANSWER:

• The K to 12 BEC is in accordance with the College Readiness Standard (CRS) and the new General Education of the CHED.

• The CRS sets the skills and competencies required of the K to 12 graduates who intend to pursue higher education

4. What will happen to colleges, universities, and TVIs during the nationwide implementation of SHS in 2016?

ANSWER:

* DepEd shall offer a financing scheme with them to utilize existing facilities along with teaching and non-teaching staff to cushion the impact of the transition of Senior HS from 2016- 2018.

5. Where will the Senior HS be implemented?

ANSWER:

* Select public secondary schools, private schools, HEIs, and TEIs may offer Senior HS in addition to the new standalone Senior High Schools which may be built.

6. How will DepEd recruit enough teachers for SY 2016-2017 onwards?

ANSWER:

* R.A. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 allows for the hiring of non-licensed teachers to teach in high schools like:

a. Graduates of science, mathematics, statistics, music, engineering and other degree courses with shortages of qualified licensed teacher applicants

b. Graduates of Tech-Vocational Courses

c. HEI faculty

d. Practitioners teaching on a part-time basis (Ex. Accountants)

QUESTION:

7. What are the guidelines for hiring non-licensed teachers to teach in senior high school?

ANSWER:

• Non-licensed teach who shall teach in SHS must pass the LET within 5 years after the date of hiring to remain full-time.

• However, if they will teach on part-time basis, they will

no longer be required to take and pass the LET.

QUESTION:

8. What are the guidelines for hired tech-vocational graduates, faculty of HEIs, and practitioners?

ANSWER:

• Graduates of Tech-Voc. Courses must have TESDA certification, and shall undergo DepEd or HEIs training.

• Faculty of colleges and universities must be full-time professors and be holders of a relevant Bachelor’s degree.

• Faculty of TVIs and HEIs will be given priority in hiring for the transition period.

• DepEd and private schools may also hire practitioners with expertise in the specialized learning areas offered in the K to 12 program as part-time teachers.

QUESTION:

9. How will the K to 12 affect the college curriculum?

ANSWER:

* The college General Education curriculum will be revised. It will have fewer units with the removal of unnecessary remediation. Details of the new GE Curriculum may be found in CHED Memorandum No. 20, s. 2013.

ANSWER:

a. Interests and needs of the students based on survey

b. Available resources in the locality

c. Opportunities and demands of the country
