ATM Networks challenges include …
… to flexibly match demand with supply. “ … excel in operational performance while reducing costs. “ … exchange ever-increasing, relevant information in a more timely and less costly way. “ … to migrate administrative and safety-critical applications onto a converged IP infrastructure. “

Merging all your legacy and IP applications onto a converged IP infrastructure allows you to reduce your operational costs. But every application has different safety, security and performance requirements.
VHF/UHF <100ms delay with 5ms jitter 99.9999% frequency availability bursty traffic on PTT
Multiple applications on one infrastructure
Surveillance Radar <1sec delay continuous low speed data Information old after 3-4 seconds
AMHS Non real-time
information exchange better late than not

To increase availability Air Navigation Service Provider around the world integrate backbone technologies from multiple providers and of different type. The design of hybrid networks has to consider different network delays, varying jitter, and supported routing protocols.
TDM WAN low delay/no jitter
legacy technology. IP WAN medium delay with jitter 99.5-99.9 availability
VSAT high delay Expensive bandwidth Weather influence
Multiple backbone networks

The WAN black-box The backbone infrastructure is the life line for every network. For telecommunications provider the backbone is their biggest asset, which they have to protect to deliver on SLAs. Therefore, they hide as much as possible.

Scalable WAN Integration
End-to-end availability can be significantly increased by
integration of multiple WAN.
ATM-grade network Intelligent routing considers real-time network performance and application needs.
For Air Navigation Service Providers who migrate multiple applications to a converged network or upgrade der communication infrastructure our ATM Networks is the network solution that provides ATM-grade performance.
ATM Networks
End-to-end performance
Every application has different requirements and hasto be treated
differently.

End-to-End Performance: Brown-out Detection Standard routing mechanisms consider link availability only: link is up and running or not (black-out). Brown-out detection allows to identify degraded links before they fail completely. Integration with VSAT and micro wave equipment is especially necessary.

End-to-end Performance: Path Diversity Standard appliances enable load sharing and path diversity for different applications based on TCP/IP information. End-to- end performance requires path diversiry for every frequency call. Combined with active redundant transmission it enables you to enhance redundant path switch-over within 20ms where necessary.
