After lending the boy a racket for their impromptu hitting, Wawrinka, seeded third, got back to business, securing his win in cold, humid conditions in just under three hours. Also through to the quarters: second-seeded Andy Murray, in a rain-interrupted 7-6 (11-9), 6-4, 6-3 victory over big-serving American John Isner. Wawrinka needed eight set points to overcome Troicki, seeded No. 22, in the first set. In the sec- ond-set tiebreaker, Troicki need- ed five set points to break down Wawrinka, who hit an attempted forehand lob long for Troicki to pull even at one set each. A backhand winner from Wawrinka — one of 14 from him in the match — broke Troicki to love in the fourth game of the third set, during which Troicki got treatment on his right leg and was given pills, and Wawrinka made the ball boy’s day. “I was a little bit bored, was waiting for (Troicki), was talking to the ball kid,” Wawrinka said. “I asked him if he was playing ten- nis. I said, ‘Okay, let’s play.’ ” An ace brought up two match points for Wawrinka, and he con- verted the first when Troicki net- ted a backhand from the baseline. Albert Ramos-Vinolas, a 55th-ranked, unseeded Span- iard who had never made it past the second round of 18 previ- ous Grand Slam tournaments, ousted No. 8 Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 to play Wawrinka in the quarterfinals. The cool, cloudy weather appeared to take some bite out of Raonic’s serve on the red clay as new coach John McEn- roe watched before they work Tennis > French Open Wawrinka has fun moving into quarters together at Wimbledon next month. On the women’s side, Garbine Muguruza advanced to the quar- terfinals for a third straight year. The array of shots and matu- rity the 22-year-old deployed in an intensely fought 6-3, 6-4 win against 2009 champ Svetlana Kuznetsova strengthened the argument that Muguruza could soon be challenging Serena Wil- liams for the top spot . Standing in the way of her sec- ond semifinal at a major tour- nament is Shelby Rogers. The 108th-ranked American, who had never made it out of the third round at a Grand Slam, beat Irina-Camelia Begu 6-3, 6-4. The Romanian, seeded No. 25, is the third seeded player to fall to Shelby in her march to the quar- terfinals. At night, rain halted play again, and after about 20 min- utes, with the rain still beating down and night falling, organiz- ers halted play for the day. Unfin- ished were fourth-round matches between Simona Halep and Sam Stosur, and Tsvetana Pironkova and Agnieszka Radwanska. All along, the Warriors have said their numerous team mile- stones and personal accomplish- ments won’t matter a bit unless they repeat as champions. They need one more victory to become the 10th team to rally from a 3-1 postseason deficit. “I’ve learned that our play- ers are tough, they’re mentally tough,” coach of the year Steve Kerr said Sunday, when his team took a day off from film and practice. “I don’t know if I really learned that. I already knew that. But they’ve firmly confirmed that. It’s been a great comeback. Now we still have to play. We still have another game.” Kerr just wanted his War- riors to grab back some momen- tum from Kevin Durant and the Thunder. They have it all right, heading into the decisive game of the West final tonight after winning two straight. The Warriors forced a Game 7 after Klay Thompson made a playoff-record 11 3s and scored 41 Saturday in a 108-101 win at Oklahoma City. Stephen Curry bounced back from a slow start to finish with 29 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. When his team won Game 5 on Thursday, Curry hol- lered, “We ain’t going home!” — and Golden State wants no part of OKC having the last say in the Warriors’ summer plans. “We got a big one (Saturday) night to stay alive, and now we’ve got some momentum. But it can work in reverse,” Kerr said. “One game changes every- thing, and we’ve got to come out and play our game and play well to finish the series out.” Golden State hardly considers it a gimme just because it’s play- ing at home, where it has lost just three times this season. The War- riors have had their problems against Durant, Russell West- brook and the towering Thunder. Oklahoma City is fueled by trying to reach its first NBA Finals since losing to LeBron James and the Heat in 2012. James and the Cavaliers are waiting on tonight’s winner. “It’s going to be a hard game. If we thought (Saturday) was hard, Game 7’s going to be even tougher,” Curry said. PLAYER’SDEATH: The shooting death of Pelicans rookie guard Bryce Dejean-Jones rattled the league and raised questions about what led up to the shoot- ing. Dejean-Jones, 23, was shot after kicking down the door of what he mistakenly thought was his girlfriend’s apartment in Dallas. “It’s shocking this happened,” his agent, Scott W. Nichols, said. “Wrong place, wrong time, I think.” Police said they would not have more infor- mation about the incident until after the Memorial Day holiday. GRIZZLIES HIRE COACH: The Grizzlies announced the hir- ing of Heat assistant David Fiz- dale as head coach and plan to introduce him at a news confer- ence Tuesday. Fizdale, 41, will be a first-time head coach. He has spent the past eight years with the Heat.
