INTROCenturies after centuries the human culture has always somehow been restricted. Restricted to the surrounding universe.Nowadays with the help of internet and global medias, access to information has never been that easy. However, capitalism makes it obvious that the main infos coming out of the general media are not proportioned to the quantity of all the beautiful things there are to discover !To resume, we only see what we are shown.Even with our beloved French Toast we have to advertise other brands in order to survive. Everything works that way ! This is why we have decided to honour in this issue the riders that have been hiding in the dark and that only the riders that have been around for years and years might know of.Whether it is Addison McNaughton, Big Ron, Eric Magray or Cary Mosbrucker, they are all riders that started at the birth of the scooter about ten years ago ! Their notoriety is clearly not huge compared to the superstars pushed in the spotlight by the main brands out there. They still remain some of the ones we still have to learn the most from.Do you remember the first street videos out that had a very high artistic level and produced by Addison and The Over Show about five years ago ? Now the videos are all made with high quality products and they are everywhere, sponsored by brands or related to other trendy things.

These are all details we wanted to share with you in order to show you the reality of this sport.

That kid is part of the new streeter generation which is rare in this large country in which the best concrete skateparks are open to all. Shout out to him for that ! • Same team, same products, same spirit, except that Blunt Australia will no longer keep this name. Envy Scooters is born ! • The second thing they’ve done was to welcome a new rider in their team. Rhiannon Wood. We are sure some of her footage will be released soon ! • Envy products have just arrived, especially their new Envy deck, and Declare fork that everybody have been waiting for with a unique compression system ! • «Jackson Manzie in California» here’s the name of the edit that French Toast recommand you this summer. Manzie has been in the game for years now and spent all of June with his friend Tyler Wheeland who showed him around some of the best spot of California with Dylan Kasson and the Lucky crew !

• Zero Gravity NW is working on a new scooter lighter and stronger made in USA that will be an extrusion style deck. New anodized parts should be out soon with new colors apart from the usual black ! • Addict Trip in California Over : Manzie wasn’t the only rider from overseas to come down and chill in Cali, the addict riders spent a whole month filming for their Addict « So What « that should be released end of the year, at the same time of their products. Some of their US footage has already been released in what they call their « AA « edit ! • Lucky Scooter Parts released the trailer of their next DVD called Opus, featuring pro riders Evan Yamada, Blake Bailor, Mike Montgomery, Tyler Wheeland, James Gee, and» Lil Jon «Aglialoro. This DVD should be out next winter ! • More wear brands in the scooter industry. TGE Distribution proudly presents « Boxes «, a new brand that supports the scooter community, with fresh riders representing it like Brandon Kilbury, Matt McKeen, Dylan Kasson and Addison McNaughton ! • Dakota Schuetz won on July 30th, the Razor Global Domination Tour at Escondido skatepark, with Raymond Warner and Cameron Ward who scored and third at the end of this day that gathered round the best scooter riders from west coast ! • Freestyle Scootering is becoming more and more underground, that’s why Sky High Scooters

will be holding the Chicago Street Jam on the 10th of September in the streets of Chicago ! • Speaking of witch, Sky High recently decided to sponsor a female rider, Allie Benedyk. That’s when you know that our sport is growing, when you see girls getting more interested in throwing tricks down ! • 6th Annual San Diego Competition on the 7th of January 2012. • Tilt Scooters growing his team in Europe : spanish rider Victor Campmany and french rider Lambert Judith are now part of Tilt. We already now what to expect from Victor since Désafio, and Lambert is part of this new generation that will blow off your mind on a simple ledge ! • All Is Possible, this new brand that supports the scooter industry is now available on the market, wih a street art design and swag of an angry elephant, well all you need to do is checking it out ! • Speaking of wear, Taravana that we’ve been waiting on, will be available in shops in october. If you need to see how it looks like, just click on Martin André and Flavio Pesenti’s latest videos ! • Second Barcelona Copa Catalunya de Freestyle, with skateboard, BMX, Inline and Scooters, that is organized by Javi Trepat and Associacion Nacional de Riders ! • Annual Lyon Contest in France (69) on the 2th of october. This event is sponsored by CDK, District, All Is Possible, Dissidence, K-124, and of course organized by the skatepark of Gerland. Blunt Europe confirmed they will be attending this contest ! • About Blunt Europe, they will also be attending the Freestyle CH of Zurich from the 25th to 27th of September, and in Pardubice, CZ for the Big Time Scootering ! ° The Australian brand Flavor Scooters will finally be available in Europe soon. A few phone calls and emails exchanged and we found the best team to introduce you to the mythic Brisbane scene.

On the East Coast of Australia, Brisbanne is where the famous Rampattack skatepark is but also where the “world first” Ryan Williams can be spotted at every corner, whether you are into street or park. As you willl see australians are at ease with the street too as well as being bangers in the park.

Hayden O’Connor, local rider and scooter teacher (yes you heard it!) at Rampattack, along with Dale Travers, talented photograph that made

his mark in the scooter world, will take us around this part of Australia. For this summer edition, rather than get into a very long and descriptive paragraph like we did before, we opted for something lighter with more photos than words.

Brisbane city carries a diverse range of riders, street and park. Brisbane is privileged to have a good transport system that goes from the north side of the city to the south side, and all in just about 2 hours. Because of the great transport system it is easy to go to all the different parks, some beingspaced 2-3 stations apart only.

This great quality allows the riders in Brisbane, to progress extremely quick in both park and street. Because Brisbane isn’t as large as the cities like Sydney or Melbourne, the community is very close and everyone knows each other. You can see a lot of riders push each other into

progression every day, virtually the whole city improves together. This allows everyone to ride on each other’s side and approach all sorts of different spots. you might wanna advantage Sundays for the street as there is less security on that day on the main spots and you will be able to ride much more at ease.

Working at an indoor skate park, you get to see a lot of new generation riders come into the sport, every week they come in they have learnt something new, and coming from kids their age its incredible to see how fast the scene is improving not only in Brisbane but around the world.

However with guys like Ryan Williams, Robbie Menzies, Taylor Smith, Kiall Barnes or even Bad French as local riders, it motivates young riders more and more to go there.

CITY REPORTBRISBANE - AUSTRALIE / Suite...

They have the benefit of two indoors park to enjoy. Rampattack north of the city and GC Compound south of the city. The first one is more street park orientated (even if you can find big curves there), the second one is clearly for purely park riders. Heavy stuffs, heightm curves, foam... everything is mde to progress in park without hurting yourself. It holds a giant SCOOT four times a year where the best riders compete!

To sum it all up, Brisbane is a great place to not only live, but to ride!If you have the chance to go to Brisbane, it is a step to go through for every good respected rider!

The people, the spots, the parks are way too wonderful to miss out on!

Hi Ron, can you introduce yourself ?

Well, I’m Ronald Sharpe, I’m from Sacramento,CA, I been scootering for ten years and a half, and I ride for Razor and also for a clothing company by the name of Rock N F8th

How did you got into scooters ?

Like a lot of old school riders I got had my first scooter as a Christmas gift so I started at the beginning of 2001, and as I grew up with the skateboard culture, you won’t see me do tricks like barspins or briflips, I’m into rails, board/lipslide, street stuff like that, I ride my scooter like a skateboard, that’s actually my skateboard but with a handlebar.

Since we are talking about the way you ride, why is your hand always going off your scooter every time you land a trick ?

To tell you the truth, I think it has to do with the fact that I’ve watched nothing but skateboard videos growing up, guys like Stevie Williams, Brandon Turner, Peter Smolik, so I think I got that from skate and from the environement I grew up in, all my friends are skateboarders you know.

We all know you won The Epic Competition this year, can you tell us more about this event ?

Yeah, I’m still stocked about it, plus I found out later on impactscooternews that I was the first African American to win a scooter contest in the United States. I came into this comp knowing that there’s cats out there with crazy briflip tricks and stuff that I don’t do and that I have no business do. All I cared about was landing my tricks and at the end I happened to get the highest results just sticking to my bread and butter tricks like my switch tricks I didn’t even care about results. I wasn’t competing against crazy riders like Eric Ostrom, Tyler Bonner or Dakota Schuetz I went with my whip in to grind combos whip out and stuff like that that I always do and always have fun doing. So yeah, I’m still stocked about it

What should we expect from you in the future ?

I tell you what , there is a generation of sick scooter riders emerging and I just wanna act as a mentor and a supporter to all this upincoming riders because they are gonna be the ones who rip the benefit of stuff like x-games one day, so I really wanna be there for them. I just wanna help the sport grow, whether that’d be announcing a competition, being a team manager or even maybe running a company who knows… but I’m gonna be involved in the sport my whole life. I wanna invest in the youth. I’m excited because epic skatepark actually has me running a scooter camp during summer break, and there are gonna have me running it during Christmas break and then Spring breaks. I’ll be setting up an environement for the kids to progress, I’ll be helping them work on their tricks and also teach them stuff like how you’re supposed to conduct yourself as a rider when you are among others in a skatepark, you know. Just various things kinda like a big brother thing

Kids, don’t worry about what other people do or say just have fun with your riding and whatever makes you good just stick to it and build on it.

La Guardia Airport, NYC, then 2 hours of train to Pennsylvania with Jon after a short night, in order to get to L-Town and meet up with the Magray crew ( cf : Industry Article to learn more about Magray ). 8 hours of car to Buffalo with Dan Barrett, Jon Reyes, Eric Magray, Ryan Becker and Ant ( FSP’s filmer ). During this journey a racoon got even run over twice … we cannot tell you who did it since we ain’t no snitches. RIP though !

Finally we arrive to the final destination, in a town close to the Canadian border and the Niagara Falls. On Friday mor-ning, with Jon Zegarra that met us up early in the morning from the airport, it’s half asleep that we all decide to have a chill day session at the skatepark, full of posts. It was the occasion for us to meet the owner of the park, Virginia Clark, who warmed welcomed us in a way only her has the secret ! About the place, there is a lot to do. Such a complet space : Spine, quarters, huge transitions, and banks, such a perfect area to throw tricks down for the event. On this Friday, we had the chance to chill with several kids like Brandon Kilbury, Georgie Louis, even Cooper Klaar was there. The best part remains when a SCOOT that started with only five people turned into a huge 30 riders Flat Jam Session….Priceless ! But let’s go back to what was the most important. Saturday’s contest.

Virginia hooked us up with a HUGE breakfast for all the riders ( isn’t she wonderful… ). The contest will begin after breakfast with Jake Hershey as our speaker. In an aside, it was the first time ever, french kids ever attended to XW, that’s why many riders came to us all the time asking us the dumbest questions ever. So one more time, I’ll answer this ques-tion we been asked the most, NO most of our French women don’t have underarm hair. Anyway, let the contest begin.

INTERMEDIATE : Let’s call it classic : double fingerwhip transfert, back board to whip down rails and a lot of heads upside down. Joey Aria showed his technical skills though, with some whip and heelwhip feeble combos 360 out down the ledge, that’s the reason he ended up 3rd, with Tommy Christiana second et Billy Evers first. Each of them went home with many prizes coming from all the sponsors Virginia managed to bring together.

I wanted to add that a couple of girls attended the comp, which is quite rare to see girls throwing down. While Tabitha Windle was doing some finger frontscooterflip, Kiara Meade was landing some bar to oppo bar rewind transfert. I’m still stocked on that.

TIME FOR THE PRO CONTEST. : There was this year, about 30 riders who signed up for the comp. New genera-tions riders, but also and more important OG’s like the local Alex Schad or GRANDE Jesse Macaluso, the legend who made New Jersey scooter scene grow. About what we saw there, that was some crazy riding ! Joe Armstrong destroyed the mini ramp with some crazy 3 tricks combos such as heelwhip to footjam toothipik drop, or whip to one foot invert to invert. Mohamed Alsulaibi fingerwhiped to fingerwhip 180 the huge quarter in the back, and 360 legsweep the spot behind it. Cooper Klaar from Washington was having fun on the street area with his personal rotorwhips to whip in pyramid, and fs smithed to nose manual down the huge hubba, while Hunter Bechtle was flying in 360 fingerwhip and was killing the pyramid with old school scooterflip just like Will Branson used to land them. King of vert Dan Holm showed us his huge 360 downside heelwhip with Georgie Louis catching his deck high in the air after a frontscooterflip.

After the finals, Jon Reyes ended up 3rd thanks to his barspins to frontslider briflip out, like my man Katt would say “ all day everyday no problem “ ^^. Guss Rymer impressed the whole crowd, I can’t believe that his first trick was a barspin to doublewhip gap first try, and I still can’t believe this HUGE superman touching the sky. He deserved his second place without a doubt. But the one who got the first, and grabbed 800 dollars at that remains Dan Barrett Like almost

She is the type of person you have to meet if you go in the area, the type of person we don’t meet that often.

Could you confidentially tell all our youngest readers how height you can go? I think I can manage just over you, which easily average 1m80.

You were at the first scooter contest in the USA, Thrillzone in Washing-ton, and appear like a nostalgic individual, could you tell us more about these days? It was back in 2005. KC Corning won this contest. There was a beautiful wooden park.

Did you start RAD with your brother? Yeah, it’s still the case nowadays. Look at mine, it’s a 22-22.

Did you build La Vulture for people like Tyler (Boner)? Ahaha! It is a design made for riders that prefer light riding. I don’t really appreciate all those people that are scared by weight. It’s a scooter after all! It does not weight much! Anyways, let’s say that it makes our brand more accessible.

Cory and you come from the same genes, but what is everyone’s role in RAD? What is your role within production for example? I don’t know how to weld, Cory does that. I bend tubes and roll them. We could be multi millionaires if we manage it well...

Whatever happens it has to succeed as you left school doesn’t it? When I left for Australia for the demonstration in Melbourne, I never went back to school. It was called Planet XGames, Terry was there too.

Do you ride for Razor? Yes, at the moment they are taking us everywhere. I’ve been to Australia, Amsterdam and Paris. We even stopped in the UK.

You gave everything you had at NASS, and we even have a video to prove it... I won best trick. A huge channel transfer to feeble. The landing quar-ter was very hard. Ahaha it was fun.

What do you think of the level in Australia since you’ve been there? It’s very competitive and the higher you get the better I believe. So instead of doing weird tricks just above the coping like most of them, they should try throwing themselves a bit more height!

Any secret plans for RAD? We’re lacking a budget nowadays so we are post-poning our plans a little.

Any advice for the young riders? Try to go the highest you can even if it kills you.

Hey what’s up ? First off for those that don’t know you can you introduce yourself ?

Hi, my name is Addison McNaughton, i’m 23 and I’m fron San Fransisco, CA. And I’ve been riding since 2001.

How did you get into freestyle scooter ?

Well…I just wanted one because everyone else was getting them and they looked like a lot of fun. I rode bikes and skateboards mostly, and messed around with my scooter on the side. I saw a commercial of a guy doing a tailwhip on a scooter, which really got me interested in learning legit tricks on my Razor. I tried landing a tailwhip for a few weeks. When I finally landed one, I was hooked on riding scooters and learning new tricks. I first learned grinds on the curb in front of my house. I felt like a pioneer when I discovered that you could grind on a scooter like a skateboard or bike. There are still wax and metal marks in the curb from my very first feeble grinds 10 years ago. There weren’t any skateparks in my area so I was forced to learn tricks in the streets. I think that’s partially what influenced my riding today.

What was your first scooter ever ?

I had a Razor A1 with foam grips and plastic blue wheels.

Do you remember who was the first scooter rider you started riding with ?

Of course ! 3 years after I started riding, I met Eric Ostrom, and yea, that was the first real scooter rider I’ve ridden with.

You got first sponsored by Razor, right ? How was di dit happen ?

Well, that was like 6 years ago in 2005. I was already talking to Josh Toy, when he was already sponsored by Razor at the beginning. Anyway, I asked Josh to send me a list of tricks to do that might help me get on Razor and he did it. It was kind of weird tricks though, like, 360, double x-up and shitty tricks like that haha. Later in April 2005, there was the Thrill Zone competition that happened to be the first US freestyle scooter competition, and that’s where I finally met all the dudes from Razor and a lot of other scooter dudes that I didn’t even know at the first place, and at that comp Ali Kermani had asked me to come down to Southern California to ride with them and hang out . So a few months later, I went down to Los Angeles, and we went to a bunch of skateparks and rode a few street spots that I had seen in the Razor videos. I wasn’t expecting to get on the team at the time. I thought, if anything, they’ll let me give them a few clips for the “friends” section in RVM3. I will still remember this moment it was on July 28th, when they drove me to the Razor Factory and that’s when I got asked to be on the team. My dream was coming true, which was basically being sponsored by the only and more than well-known scooter brand ever so that was just ridiculous. It was and still is one of the best days of my life. Plus I had just graduated high school so that was the kind of feeling you can’t forget.

So here you are sponsored by Razor. What were you supposed to do for them ?

Well, there was this Razor Video Magazine ( RVM ) project. The first 2 issues were already out and at that time they were working on the 3rd one. And this one was supposed to look more like a skate or bmx video,

like, each rider had his own part. I was actually paid to get footage so that was even better. The only thing that started being a problem was the fact that I had to wear helmets since Razor products are supposed to be for kids. Ethically speaking, as a street rider, it was a real problem for me. Like it wasn’t complicated enough I was filming for The Over Show at the same time, so I had to land my tricks twice sometimes in order to have a clip for Razor with a helmet on and one without for the OverShow. Readers who ride street : you know what I’m talking about how hard it is to land the same trick one more time that you struggled to do ! It’s like having to land a trick again because the filmer wasn’t paying attention or something. I couldn’t complain about that helmet case though, since they were the only one able to provide for me and move me to other scooter events and at that time it was great.

Speaking of events, Razor did organize a trip to Japan included you. Can you talk about that a little bit ?

Oh yeah ! I remember it was my first time out of the US territory. We flew out to Tokyo with Razor team manager Ali Kermani, Josh Toy, Ricky Wernicke and Chris Daigle. That was just gnarly ! Like a family trip in the other side of the globe. The event was called the Tokyo Cycle Show. For 3 days, we were basically doing five 15min demos a day. All I remember was that I was really stressed out, I landed several tricks though but I also fell a lot, way more than any of the other riders. I had to end each demo with a backflip. That’s when I knew that demos and stuff like that ain’t my thing at all.

And what happened next with Razor ?

Well we moved to New Jersey for the first TIC contest, that’s when I met Matt McKeen for the first time without even knowing it was him. I didn’t find out until after we left the competition. I just remember thinking the kid was dope because he was the only other person hitting one of the only ledges they had in that park. People that had that same vision as me were so hard to find so I was stocked on that. The park really didn’t have any street-style obstacles so I remember thinking that I never wanted to go to anymore competitions unless it was a street competition. Unfortunately, that never happened Then there was the 2nd Thrill Zone and I ended up 3rd at this one, and then RVM 3 came out with my own part inside. They even paid me once the video came out. The thing is that we were promised trips to film but everytime we were moving the only reason was because there was a contest or a demo. That’s so sad because Ali Kermani really wants to push things forward with razor and try his best for that but the problem is that it’s not always up to him. And I’m just not interested in what they want their riders to do. I’m also not happy

with their products. Razor is more about flying their riders to competitions, and I’m more interested in going on road trips to street spots and getting footage. The helmet thing was a real problem for me

too like I told you before. It was recently brought to my attention that riders don’t have to wear helmets anymore but it wasn’t enough to make me want to stay with the team. I really just wanted time to focus on my own riding and not have any obligations to a sponsor at the moment. I think Razor will continue to be a great scooter company, especially with the new line of products coming out, but the brand just isn’t my style anymore.

So at the end, what is your sponsor situation ?

I’m still getting footage for The Over Show videos, and I also recently

started working with “BOXES Limited,” an apparel company that wants to be involved in supporting scooter riders. I’m not interested in riding for any major scooter companies right now because I want time to focus on developing as a rider, as well as avoid the obligations that come with having a sponsor. Also, there really aren’t any scooter companies, accept for a company like Addict, with a brand that appeals to me.

You talk a lot about The Over Show but what is it exactly ?

The Over Show is a lot of things. At the heart, it’s a group of friends and family that love being involved in action sports and doing funny shit. We also consider ourselves a video production company. Everything started in 1998 with OG Brendon Kelly, Smalls, Jonny ‘2B’ Verducci and myself. But it is open to anybody, like, anybody is welcome in the OverShow. Our goal is to be able to gather round people, film all that and edit it. At first, it used to look like something like Jackass. We used to film all the stupid thing we used to do, including skating, scootering and riding bmx. When we were in high school it was easier to promote our videos everybody knew about the OverShow, even the cops knew about us, they thought we were a gang going from spot to spot just to vandalize shit haha. Anyway if there’s also one thing you need to know is that Part of The Over Show’s goal is to stay heavily involved in the scooter scene. We want to continue to meet up with other riders to chill, ride and film. We want to make an effort to attend more of the doper competitions so we can hang out and capture the scootering culture onto tape.

Oh I almost forgot, some readers might not know that but The OverShow owns a bus ! Very Comfortable by the way hehe. Where did you get that bus from ?

Haha I don’t even know. You know what, one day i was at school and 2B called me like « yo , we are gonna buy a bus ! ». What do you expect me to say back haha I was like “ huh… Ight okay “. Man I had already

forgotten about that call but the next thing I know, 2 weeks later 2B is driving a bus that only cost 1300$ !! At the beginning we were always on the road, that was so gnarly. Plus people could tell, you could see on their face in their mind they are all like : that’s the OverShow bus !

Right. Back to your videos. Can you talk about your part in Worthless ?

Well Worthless is skateboarding, bmx, scooter and snowboarding video from 2007 in which the only other scooter rider is Eric Ostrom who has a part aswell. You can see some of the segments up on Vimeo. George Justiniano has a few clips in the video but not a full part.

Yea, and with a lots of gnarly famous spots in the video and in your part.

Man, I’m from SF, well-known in the world for their crazy spots. There are so many of them, that’s insane ! You only need to walk around sf ’s street to find out that it’s full of spots. From the smallest to the biggest, from the gnarliest to the most famous, spots you can see in skateboard and bmx videos like Third Army or Wallenberg. All these spots motivate us to throw down tricks on them.

Let’s talk about Wallenberg for a sec. That legendary gap that you will have been the first to hit.

Guys you know what, it took me 2 days to tailwhip this freaking gap. On

the first day I hadn’t landed it, it was so frustrating ! My feet couldn’t help slipping off my deck. The spot has been renovated since, you can take your run up easier than before and they put smoother asphalt everywhere on the spot. But it was horrible 4 years ago, you had to run and run to hit that spot and I even broke 2 decks that day. Anyway, I came back 2 weeks later with another deck, and I immediately tried but all I got was a faceplant. Since it’s in a school there was a basket ball coach that arrived as soon as I fell to make sure I’m okay and also make sure I won’t do it again since I was bleeding and stuff. At the end I stood up, went back on my scooter, tried, tried, tried and finally landed it. You have no idea how much HAPPY I was. I was even talking shit in front of the camera with my “ I got Lucky “ T shirt, I was like : I got Lucky BITCH ! “. But guys I was just so relieved and happy at the same time. I will have been the first scooter rider to hit that spot.

Non-typical rider, where do you get your inspiration from ?

From all the vids I have watched, what ever type of extreme sport it is, it motivates me. It was hard at the beginning to find footage from scooter riders, I was mostly inspired by the original Team Razor riders, especially Josh and Ricky, because they were the only ones who were releasing footage to the masses, and they also rode California street spots. I didn’t see any videos of other street riders like Matt McKeen until a few years after I started riding. Other than Razor guys, I mostly saw videos from the OGs like Martin Nogol, Silas Henderson, Matt Pate, Bryant

Walker, Brian Boston, Terry Price, and a few others

You fall a lot too, is there any bad memory of a fall you want to share with us ?

A front feeble on a blue hubba ledge, which was in the first Over Show video. I slipped out and went completely sideways, hitting my head, bruising a rib, and breaking several thousand alveoli on my lung, which released a bunch of air and put a lot of pressure on my internal organs. I fell so hard and the pain was so deep that I was even struggling to breathe. Sometimes I was even passing out. I remember that a bunch of cheerleaders was trying to keep me awake, because they thought I had a concussion and would die if I passed out. And it was worse once we arrive at the hospital. Bad memory !

Your current setup ?

I ride the green district DK2, perfect for 50-50, with a Lucky Northwest bar, foam grips and proto fork.

Favorite spot ?

North Concord white ledges.

People you like to ride with ?

Ostrom, George ( Justiniano ), Big Ron, my twin bro Austin, Mike and 2B.

Plans for the future ?

I’m working on new web edit for The Over Show. We’ve also planned to release a new full-length Over Show video on 12/12/12, so I’ll have to work hard to get my part finished for that. I’m also riding for Boxes Limited, which should be a fun experience because I’ve never dealt with apparel before. I really just want to focus on having fun riding again, learning new tricks, and getting more involved in the sport.

Final words ?

I’d like to see more scooter trip videos, like in skateboard, instead of seeing riders focusing more on getting sponsored or first at a contest. I want to see more often riders that got personality instead of just try to do the same tricks that everybody does and yea MORE STREET RIDING in videos. You got spots everywhere you just have to be curious a little because I feel like riding skateparks only during trips is a waste of time.

MECANICHOW TO MAKE SURE THAT MY STARNUT IS WELL PLACED IN MY BAR? • Insert your bolt from the bottom of the fork (above is a quebec/French id system that needs a special disc adapted to the fork).• The bolt needs to come out at the top of the fork (above, the District fork has a hole where it can come out, which explains the short bolt for the District system)• Screw your starnut to the fork until they touch each other (be careful which way you place the starnut, the curved bit should go inside the handle)• Place the bar in the fork and push it down about 9 to 10 centimetres, enough space for a fork• Unscrew the bolt and the starnut will move towards a straight positionA little trick :- if you want your system to last a lot longer, try to insert a washer against the other disc or the fork. This will limit the system from unscrewing itself with the shocks applied to it.

COMPRESSION SYSTEM QUEBEC SCOOTER/FRENCH ID:• For Quebec Scooter/French ID systems, after using the method above, you will only have to insert your fork in the headtube and then insert your bar• As soon as your feel that the starnut is touching the bolt, start screwing your system together• Important, DON’T tighten your clamp. This is the last thing to tighten on your barYour quebec scooter/French id compression system is now built on and you can adjust it to your taste, and then tighten your clamp once you are done

COMPRESSION SYSTEM DISTRICT:• For District compression systems, you will need a longer Allen key (that comes with District Forks)• Screw the starnut with the key in the hole at the top of the fork and then use the method above to insert your starnut• Then unscrew your bolt, insert your bar until you feel the starnut touching your botl and then screw

COMPRESSION SYSTEL PHOENIX / PROTO :The Phoenix compression system is different because the starnut is in the fork and the compression comes from the clamp.• First, place the starnut inside the fork so that the curved part goes at the top of the fork (be careful not to push it too hard)Careful : if you have a District fork, you will have to cut off about 2mm of the upper part as it is covered.• Place the clamp, the wesher and the bolt like shown above• Make sure that the bolt is touching the starnut so that you can tighten it and adjust it to your taste• Then insert your bar in the clamp, adjust it and screw the 4 bolts of the clamp (the two bolts below hold the fork, the 2 others hold the bar)

THE BARREL ROLL! IT MUST BE THE “UPSIDE DOWN” TRICK THAT WE RARELY GET TO SEE NOWADAYS. SO IF YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT WHEN YOU HEAD TO THE PARK, YOU WILL HAVE TO LISTEN TO AMINE’S ADVICE CAREFULLY. HE IS A YOUNG RIDER THAT CAN DO THIS TRICK LIKE VERY FEW CAN.

In order to learn, there is no need for a huge box but do not use something tiny either. The ideal would be to have an precise eject with which you can go height.

STEP 1 : THE BODY POSTURE

It’s the basics. The success of this trick relies on the body posture you maintain during the rotation. The idea is to think about keeping your feet in the same direction than the head all along the rotation (a bit weird to explain, look at the photos to make it clearer). The head should go on the side and the body should be kept together so that everything rotates fast and well.

STEP 2 : THE ROTATION

It has to be executed fast. This would allow you to go higher and not to land in the middle of the box. When you are about to eject, you have to push hard in the middle of the curve and throw your shoulders backwards whilst pulling the handle. At the same time, and this is the most important point, you have to throw your head on the side and

look at the point of landing. The flip will then be twisted and you will have achieved a barrel roll!

STEP 3 : THE LANDING

Once the point of landing is found with your eyes, you have to stop pulling on the handle and start unfolding yourself, as well as keep an eye on the landing point so you can anticipate how your jump is going to end. The legs will then be able to suspend the landing like any other jumps.

This time around we stopped at Eric Magray’s in the USA, founder of the eponymous brand who is starting to do well on the East coast of the USA and for who we see a big future.

Aged only 19, Eric threw himself in the scooter industry in 2011. He has been riding for over ten years and the idea came at a riding session with his friends Jon Reyes and Dan Barret: “ why don’t we start something that represents us more than these brands destroying the images of the sport in favour of a better marketing and better sales”?

Having learnt most of the basics at school, this young entrepreneur decided to go for it! The idea was more to create something new rather than copy and allow the sport to evolve in the right direction. More than a brand, Magray wants to be protector of the scooter sport and ride. The idea is not to make money but to gather other riders and develop the parts they need.

Today’s team is made of friends and not only “sandwich person” riders, and they are Dan Barett, Jon Reyes, Jason Griffiths, Ryan Becker, Joe Sabatini and Eric Magray. Good people to support this small brand. If you want you can catch some videos on youtube and a new one is to come out within a few months.

Ok now this is a nice story but what comes out of this brand you might wonder? You can find plastic pegs and brakes that can adapt on all the brnads (!), a CNC fork is on the way. We even have a few images of what it will be like... Look at the compression system... We told you they were to come up with innovative ideas!

Of course the brand is not as distributed as the big ones out there but

be assured that the Magray parts are going to appear everywhere. They are already available on the East Coast of the USA, and will be reaching Europe at the end of the year. Let’s assume Australia will be next.

It’s good to know they exist! We are now on the verge of the scooter. On one side we see more and more “chinese” brands that only wants to make the most money they can and on the other side the addicts like Eric Magray that want to develop the sport like others did withinh the skate and the bmx worlds. We now have to choose which evolution it will be and decide if we want to stay in a toy world or step into a world created by and for the riders.

12 days in 12 different cities in 9 different countries with 10 riders from 3 continents, coming from Australia, The United States, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Our tour started at Revolution in the United Kingdom and led us through Antwerp in Belgium, Coburg in Germany, Prague in Czech Republic, Bad Ischl in Austria, Lausanne in Switzerland, Marseille in France, Andorra, Tossa de Mar in Spain, Bordeaux in France, Coueron in France and Romford in the UK. In total we travelled almost 5700km in 12 days in our luxury double decker tour bus where we all slept at night while driving to the next stop. Our Madd bus was fully equipped with flat screen TV´s, DVD players, a playstation, hifi stereo and 14 full size beds to keep us busy during our times on the road.

We all had a fantastic time combining riding hard in some of the nicest skateparks around Europe with store visits, mini comps, signature sessions, lots of swimming and diving, a waterpark session with huge jumps and general partying. All local organizers did an awesome job creating a truly spectacular and entertaining programme for both the riders and the spectators. We´ve all gone home tired but happy and we´re looking forward to our next European tour. Next time hopefully with a few more European riders as well as we have been keeping our eyes out for talent throughout the tour and definitely spotted some great potential riders to expand our MGP Europe team! More news on that soon.

Before starting the interview, you had the first issue of French Toast in your hands. What did you think about it and what’s your impression on having the next few lines dedicated to you?

I love the interviews, I read them all. It is an honour for me to be a part of it.

You’re back from 9Transport in the Basque country. You tanned quite a lot, did you spend your time napping in the sun or riding in the bowls?

This was my first trip. We did four days in camping mode with the guys from Twisted. It wasn’t really street but the ambiance was amazing. We went to ride a spot that we can see in a lot of videos from the biggest Spanish riders. It looks like big curves with walls above it. It was huge and really cool to ride

In the steps of Ruben Alcantara I believe, would you like to be as famous?

I think it’s good that we are known for having a different style, us Europeans. I’m Spanish and you can tell. But I ride for myself because I love it. I study as well so I don’t necessarily want to live off the scooter. It’s not that easy.

It’s not the case for most of the Barcelona kids is it?

Competitive mind is hitting Catalonia but kids need to see bigger than scooter flips in order to evolve. The main idea is to have fun, see your friends… Look at me I progress each time without killing myself at it, I see Pol, Marc or my friends from Twisted. Scooter isn’t a big competition. You need to chill first. I won a contest in Villanova, ok, but that did not change my life! What some of these kids do not get is that it’s not about riding like Javi Trepat or Ryan Williams, but about doing your own thing. A little advice

for all the kids that do not realize that three years ago only we were only about 10 to ride in Barcelona: give some importance to the technical side of the tricks.

What if the kids were declaring war in the streets and killing themselves on the biggest gaps, do you think that would rise the level in Barcelona maybe? Would you like it to change then?

I would mainly love my friends in Twisted to do more street. Pol Acena is starting and that’s a good thing! People like Carlos Monne spend way too much time in parks. After the street jam we agreed that more people would start riding real things.

Yeah, there is a massive potential in Barcelona. You took me to hidden spots. How important is it for you to find new spots?

Pol filmed Exploring Barcelona in a week. It’s a totally street video in order to show that there is something else out there than the Macba and the Forum in Barcelona.

Nike 6.0 did a video contest to reveal Barcelona, France won, are you raging?

BMX do not inspire me. There is still a lot of spots to see and explore. I think that the people that come and ride should ask more infos to the local riders in order to ride unknown spots. The city is full of secrets and the foreigners stay on the roads. Russian people came and we showed them Paral lel. That was the strict minimum. They did not

Even if my favorite spot remains the Forum, the future videos will show more and more new spots. It is a real addiction to find new places, new architectures giving new riding opportunities. Expect some Tilt footage my friends!

So about Tilt, I can see a peg on the front, nice. And the the fork isn’t bad either, luxurious.

The pegs are clearly longer than District and definitely better ahah “all is district”. The fork is amazing. Even more points for the compression system, the fork is threaded inside like on the BMX. Everything is compatible for the pegs and it’s light as well.

I know you had the chance to try out a lot of american parts, What do you prefer?

I’ve got a Lucky handle with triangular gussets, it’s a killer, I’ve had it for a year and it’s really good. I like proto wheels and ODI handles. I had a

Lucky and a Phoenix decks and now I ride with the Proto - Orion which fits my needs perfectly but I am waiting on the JD Addict deck

JD ? Other any inspirations like that?

lol bastard… JD is amazing for its complexity and grinds and noses. Otherwise Luke Painter impresses me with his switch lines and of course Mc Keen motivates me for the rails. I still have a crush on Erick Feenstra and his pegs!

What do you listen to on your ipod?
