PLURALS

Rule #1. Generally, add –s in the spelling. e.g. le livre → les livres

Rule #2. If the word ends with –s or –x, you do not change anything. e.g. le prix → les prix

Rule #3. If a noun or adjective ends in –al you pluralize it by replacing the –al with –aux. e.g. le journal → les journaux

Rule #4. If a masculine noun or adjective ends in –eau, -au, or –au; you pluralize it by adding an –x to the end of it.

e.g. le plateau → les plateau

Rule #5. Once in a while, nouns ending in –ail get pluralized by replacing that with –aux. This is very rare.

e.g. travail → travaux

There are many exceptions to these rules, where Rule #1 is used instead of the others.
