For those seeking a warm ref-uge after the shearing, “The Yarn Shop at Foster Sheep Farm” will be open, featuring ongoing demonstrations by local knitters, spinners, and weavers. The shop will be stocked with a rich selection of local yarn, spinning wheels, looms, pattern books, notions and accessories.

In addition, representatives from Saratoga PLAN will be on hand to speak about farmland preservation. The organization is a land trust that protects land in the Saratoga region through purchases and donations of land and conservation ease-ments, to protect important nat-ural resources and open spaces. Foster Sheep Farm was recent-ly conserved by the group.

door fun.Popular in the 1700s, a “Frost

Faire” eased the effects of cabin fever with opportunities to visit friends while enjoying winter activities, refreshments and entertainment. The Saratoga Battlefield is welcoming every-one to continue the tradition.

Stop One includes snow tub-ing on the “Big Hill.” Bring your snow tubes or plastic sleds for sliding. There will also be a bonfire, horse-drawn carriage rides, and games including a giant soldier puzzle, ice bowling and bottle fishing. A warming tent will have cocoa and cook-ies.

At noon, take part in a Winter Nature Hike that features hid-den treasures and prizes. The hike is open to all.

At the Visitor Center, guests can participate in Contra danc-ing. There will be a children’s craft room that includes decora-tive tin piercing and copper embossing. There will also be a bonfire, and cannon and mus-ket firing demonstrations.

This year’s event features spe-cial presentations on chocolate in early American by a choco-late historian from the Historic Division of MARS, Inc. Chocolate demonstrations will be given every hour, with free samples.
