Introduction 

I use a lot of different apps and websites to help me with my social media management every single day (I honestly wouldn’t be able to do what I do without them!). These websites and apps make my job easier, quicker and to be honest, lots more fun. I have a few that I would use every single day, and others maybe once or twice a week or month.

I guarantee that these apps and websites (all of which are free or have free versions) will make social media easier. Feel free to use a few or even all of them, it’s completely up to you! I have included some basic information on each so you know what it’s all about, plus links to where you can access them. I have also given my personal review on each, to help you decide which is best for you!

Facebook 

Pages Manager 

Pages Manager is perfect if you are an Administrator on Facebook for on or more Facebook 

Pages. It allows you to easily manage, post and reply to clients via their tools from your phone or 

device, and most importantly, keep an eye on insights which will tell you how well your social 

media skills are working!

NIC’S VERDICT  

“I use this app multiple times a day! It’s perfect as I don’t have to be tied to my laptop, so I 

can check Facebook pages and answer page PM’s and comments no matter where I am. I 

don’t know what I’d do without it.”

Facebook Ads Manager App 

The Facebook Ads Manager App was created for business owners who spend more time on their 

mobile phones on the go, and less time in the office on a desktop computer. The Ads Manager 

App lets you create new Facebook Ads, track the results from ads that are running, checking 

budgets and editing ads that are running for full optimisation. 

The brilliant part about this app is that Facebook allows you to target your content to your 

desired demographic.

NIC’S VERDICT  

“Again this is another lifesaver for me. I don’t like to be tied down to the laptop to manage my 

Facebook pages, so I can set up a Facebook ad anywhere, anytime (because my phone is 

always with me!” 

 

FB Creator 

FB Creator is an app that allows you to edit your live videos on Facebook before they go live. It has cool features, such as an intro and outro (to which you can add music, images 

and frame around the video). It is an app that beautifies your videos to make them more 

attractive and engaging to your customers. 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“I am still in experimental mode with this app - but it does look pretty fun so will definitely play more with it.”

Facebook Messenger 

Facebook Messenger is a great way to privately message other people (or a few other people) in 

real time. It works somewhat like text messages except that it is a free service. 

It is terrific for video conferencing (like Skype - but easier, and better) and you can add multiple 

people to your ‘call’. Plus it’s free! 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“This is definitely a tool I use on a daily basis - probably even more than email. The video call 

feature is extremely handy for conferencing (especially now there’s a group video call option) 

and it’s much more reliable than Skype.”

Instagram Apps 

Link.Tree 

Instagram only allows you to hyperlink out in one spot - your profile bio. Link.Tree capitalises on 

this by providing you with one link that can house multiple links to house all the content you want 

to drive your followers to. One link - multiple destinations!

NIC’S VERDICT 

“Link.tree is another desktop app that I am totally in love with - I have added it to my 

business Instagram accounts and am so glad I did. No longer do I need to swap links to 

content on our Insta bios - one link takes followers through so they can go to multiple content 

links. And it’s free!” 

 

Layout (phone) 

Layout allows you to make one of a kind collages on your phone. The App has over 100 different 

layouts and you can use the photos already in your gallery or the app has functions to take 

photos within the app. It caters to up to 10 images at a time and allows you to move, mirror, flip 

and edit images just the way you like it.

NIC’S VERDICT  

“This is a nice and easy app that’s perfect for sharing a few images at once on Instagram - 

great for changing things up and keeping things interesting on your Insta feed.”

Boomerang 

The Boomerang App make mini videos that loop back and forth that only last one second but 

make a huge impact with movement.   

Available on iPhone and Android. 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“This app is loads of fun, and is a great one to use for behind the scenes shenanigans, and 

just for something completely different. It’s good because you don’t need to talk (if you are 

uncomfortable doing videos) and it’s quick!” 

 

Hyperlapse 

Hyperlapse allows you to condense a long video into a shortened, sped-up version. Like 

fast-forward. It is great for adding interest (and saving time) on your videos. 

Available on iPhone 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“I use this app fairly sparingly, but it’s still OK for shortening a fun video to catch people’s 

eyes in the Insta newsfeed. A good one to have handy.” 

 

Repost (phone) 

Repost allows you to re-post other Instagram users posts and images to your own Instagram 

account, directly from your phone. 

Available on iPhone and Android 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“This is an amazing app and I do use it quite often. The main thing to remember is to ask the 

owner of the Insta account you are reposting something from for permission to repost 

something of theirs. Just common courtesy!”

CutStory 

CutStory will cut up any length video to several 15 second short videos (which is optimal for 

Instagram Stories).  

Available on iPhone 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“I only came across this nifty app recently and have used it a few times now. If you have 

started getting into Insta (and Facebook) stories, this is the app to use!” 

 

Storeo 

Storeo is for iPhones only and is similar to CutStory - still free, just another option for posting 

videos on Insta Stories. 

Available on iPhone 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“This is not a bad app - I do prefer CutStory, but that’s just a personal thing. Storeo does 

pretty much the same, so try it out!”

Story Cutter 

Story Cutter is Android’s answer to CutStory and Storeo - just another option for posting videos 

on Insta Stories, but this one does them in 10 second cuts instead of the 15 second ones on the 

iPhone versions.

NIC’S VERDICT  

“I own an iPhone so was unable to test this. If it does the same as the iPhone ones though, 

it’ll be good!”

Twitter 

 

Tweet Deck 

A Twitter Management System that allows you to manage, schedule, message (or DM’s) for 

Twitter. 

Available for desktop 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“This is a great system if you are a Twitterer and spend lots of time on Twitter - all your 

tweets and messages are all in one place on one page. The layout is a little similar to 

Hootsuite (if you are familiar with it).” 

Periscope (phone) 

Pericope is Twitter’s version of Facebook Live. So if you want to do live videos on your Twitter 

Account, Periscope is what you use. 

Available on iPhone and Android  

NIC’S VERDICT  

“To be completely honest, I am not in love with Twitter, so I have only ever used Periscope 

once. It is pretty much the same sort of deal as Facebook Live.”

Pinterest  

 

Pinvolve  

Pinvolve connects your business Facebook page to your Pinterest account. It can pull your latest 

pins from Pinterest (and Instagram) and post them on your Facebook page. It can also post from 

your Facebook page to your Pinterest account. 

Available on desktop 

NIC’S VERDICT  

“This can save you lots of time (if you don’t have much of it) but you need to make sure your 

images are suitable for all platforms (so they don’t look strange when cross-posted).” 

Pingroupie 

If you are a huge Pinner, then PinGroupie is great for collaborating and getting your boards populated by others. It’s a directory full of Pinterest boards that accept 

collaborators. Great for bloggers, cooks and crafters and anyone who loves to pin! 

Available on desktop 

NIC’S VERDICT “This is fantastic for getting right into the whole Pinterest world - you can get lots of ideas off other Pinners and collaborate. I find it really good for getting 

ideas on blog posts and social posts.”

Scheduling Apps 

Buffer  

Buffer allows you to schedule your Facebook Page, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter Accounts. It 

allows you to attend to your social media accounts without always having to do it manually 

yourself. Buffer also tracks the performance of all your content so you can see what is working, 

and what isn’t. 

Available on desktop, iPhone and Android. 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“This is my FAVOURITE social scheduling tool ever! I have been using this now for about 4 

years and it is simply the best thing ever. One point to remember when using a social 

scheduler is that it’s not a set and forget thing - you still need to be “social” and engage with 

followers on all your social accounts, but this definitely does help you to save time so you can 

concentrate on other areas of your business.” 

Hootsuite 

Hootsuite is similar to Buffer. You can upload, edit and schedule hundreds of social media posts 

for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram so that your social media is active, even when you 

aren’t.

NIC’S VERDICT 

“Hootsuite is not too bad as far as scheduling tools go, but I think you are either in the 

Hootsuite camp or the Buffer camp (I’m Team Buffer because I find it much simpler to use 

lol!). I do find the layout a little busy but it is still worth trying out - it’s a personal preference 

thing!”

Graphics & Images  

Canva 

Canva is a easy to use, graphic designing suite that has revolutionised the world of image design. 

It has a huge range of free templates in lots of different sizes (and you can also set your own 

sizes). It has a range of free stock images and fonts as well.  

Available on desktop, iPhone and Android. 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“I am totally in love with this software! I am definitely not a graphic designer (and early on did 

not have the money to afford one) so when Canva was released, I jumped on it! I was also 

involved in the Beta testing of the iPhone app when it was being designed. It has everything 

you need for your business and social media needs so I recommend that you check it out!” 

Picmonkey 

Picmonkey is a very easy to use image editing tool that is perfect for people that don’t know how 

to edit, but good enough to use the image on the most professional of websites. It allows you to 

resize images, apply filters, put images into a collage and do up beautiful Facebook Timeline 

Images. Although you can edit photographs for free, they are now charging about $5 per month 

for the editing suite, but if you don’t know Photoshop, it is a great investment to make.

NIC’S VERDICT 

“I have used PicMonkey for a long time and it’s a really good basic image editor and creator. 

It’s simple to use and has loads of great options and templates.”

Giphy  

Gifs are very short videos usually of celebrities pulling faces or doing something funny. They can 

sometimes tell a story when words won’t. Giphy is free to use and it is easy to embed the code 

from the Giphy website direct into your Wordpress site for a real impact-driven image, and you 

can also easily use them on social media.

NIC’S VERDICT 

“This is a really fun platform to use - it’s a change from the usual static images or long videos 

and is great to add to your posting repertoire for engagement on your socials and/or website. 

I love a good GIF!” 

Crello 

Crello is a very similar image design platform to Canva (in fact it is scarily similar!) but has different 

features as well, such as the ability to create Animated Posts. It has a very simple layout, and is 

free.

NIC’S VERDICT 

“I like to use Crello occasionally just for something different - the animated posts are fun. I 

feel a bit weird that it’s so similar to Canva and I feel a little like I am cheating on Canva by

Typorama 

This is a great simple phone app that can allow you to create beautiful, simple but professional 

looking social images with text for free. It has useful features such as filters, cropping, overlays 

and adjustment tools and a wide range of text and image templates. 

Available on iPhone 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“Typorama is a very handy little app to have - I love the simplicity and the text options are 

fantastic. It even has a random quote generator which is awesome if you can’t think of one 

yourself!” 

Meme Generator 

Up your social media game by creating your own memes to post! The free Meme Generator 

features over 700 popular memes and has some example captions (or you can create your own). 

Available on iPhone and Android 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“I can honestly spend hours on this app (and have!) Memes definitely increase engagement 

on your social media and also website or blog because they are so funny!” 

 

Adobe Spark 

With Adobe Spark (and the Spark Post app) you can transform your ideas into stunning visual 

stories. Create graphics, web pages and video stories easily with the free graphic design app. 

There is a gallery of examples to help you with inspiration.

“This is another easy to use graphics app that has awesome templates and ideas for social 

and website graphics. I find this one great for Instagram/Facebook Stories images.”

Free Stock Image Sites  

 

Pixabay  

Pixabay is a free stock image site that has copyright free images and videos. All images are safe 

to use without requiring permissions or crediting the photographer.  

Available on desktop, iPhone and Android. 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“Pixabay is my go-to for free stock images - the quality and range of images available are 

incredible and it’s rare that I can’t find exactly what I want.”

Unsplash  

Unsplash is a copyright-free stock photo site that has over 70,000 contributing photographers. 

Users can copy, modify, distribute and use the photographs for free, including use for commercial 

purpose without having to seek permission. 

Available on desktop and Android. Coming soon to iPhone. 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“Unsplash has some gorgeous images which are perfect to use as backgrounds for quote 

images - great for Facebook and Instagram!” 

Pexels (desktop) 

Pexels has a good quality library of totally free stock images. Their photos are just beautiful and 

high-quality with more images being added to the collection daily.

NIC’S VERDICT 

“Pexels has some terrific images for business social media and websites, and there’s some 

really good ones to use as quote backgrounds as well.”

Free Productivity Apps 

Evernote  

Evernote allows you to take notes when you are on the go - so you don’t lose your ideas! It 

allows you to make voice recordings, you can save links and images, take photos, and share 

notes with colleagues. It will even sync the app to your desktop! 

Available on desktop, iPhone and Android 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“I am not the most organised person, so I find Evernote absolutely brilliant - if I have an idea 

or find a link or image I want to use later, I just pop it in Evernote so I don’t lose it! I love that it 

syncs with my desktop as well - it just makes my job easier and keeps my brain less 

cluttered!” 

Pocket 

Pocket allows you to save links, articles, videos and images from the internet, so that you can read/watch them either online or offline later on. 

Available on desktop, iPhone and Android 

NIC’S VERDICT 

“This is the niftiest app ever invented. There’s always that time where you find an article or video you really want to read or watch, but just don’t have the time right 

then. With Pocket, you can save it and then get back to it later (and the best thing is 

you don’t necessarily need the internet). I love it!”

Content Writing Apps  

Bitly  

Bitly is a URL ‘Shortener’. When you are posting a link to social media from your website, often 

the URL is really long, and it just looks unsightly. Bitly is a great way to make it short and sweet, 

and also track the amount of click-throughs.

NIC’S VERDICT 

“Bitly is really useful, not only for making links look a bit prettier on social media but also 

because you can track the amount of people clicking through (really good for planning 

content!)” 

Grammarly 

If your spelling is less than perfect, and your grammar is poo, Grammarly will fix it all for you! It 

also will scan your content to ensure it is unique (i.e. not plagiarised!)

NIC’S VERDICT 

“I like to think my grammar and spelling is pretty exceptional (I can almost see Jody Allen 

rolling her eyes as she reads this!) but now and then I get a brain block and need to check the 

spelling of a word or if my grammar is on point. This is the perfect app for that!”
