4-H programs are grounded in the belief that
kids learn best by doing. In 4-H, kids complete
hands-on projects in areas like science, health,
agriculture, citizenship, communication and
the arts. Youth have the option to exhibit at
the Winnebago County fair to show off their
accomplishments, have their projects judged
and displayed for the community.

New members can join 4-H at any time. The 4-H
“year” runs from Sept. to Aug. and youth who join
by Jan. 31 can exhibit at the County Fair in August.
The first step to becoming a 4-H member is to join
a Community Club. Clubs are located throughout
Winnebago County, are organized by volunteer
leaders and meet monthly. Additional 4-H activities
are provided throughout the month by Project
Leaders at the Club, County or State Levels.
Minimum cost to join 4-H is a $10/year/youth.
Additional participation fees may by charged
for specific activities (Camps, Fun Days, Shooting
Sports, Dog Training, etc). 4-H costs are kept to a
minimum by the fundraising efforts of youth
members and adult leaders. No youth is denied
4-H participation due to finances.
4-H is a program of Extension Winnebago County.
