Pendle is criss-crossed by a fantastic network of footpaths which is what helps us to offer you such a varied programme of walks. If this is your first Pendle Walking Festival, then enjoy having your eyes opened to our stunning scenery and great walking. And if you’ve visited Pendle before, then you’ll already know what treats lie in store…

Choosing your walksThe Pendle Walking Festival offers an enormous variety of walking opportunities, from the easiest starter walks to the challenging 45 mile Pendle Way. The length and difficulty of each walk is given, together with a description of where it takes you and what you can expect. The symbols in this programme are designed to help you choose the walks which are best for you and your walking companions.

The Festival LaunchThe festival will be launched at Barley Cabin in the attractive Pendle village of Barley on Saturday 30th August at 10am. As always, the launch will be followed by a number of walks. The Festival will be launched by The Mayor of Pendle, Councillor Graeme Roach.

AccommodationA wide range of quality, inspected accommodation is available in Pendle. Please call our visitor information centres for our accommodation guide or visit www.visitpendle.com.

Welcome to the 2014 Pendle Walking Festival…

Dare you take our challenge?Walk in the footsteps of the famous Pendle Witches...And celebrate a 50th Anniversary!

2014 is the 50th Anniversary of the creation of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are many events planned to celebrate this - visit www.forestofbowland.com for details. The whole of the Pendle Walking Festival is part of this 50th Anniversary Festival, and many of our walks are within the Forest of Bowland boundary. These walks are clearly marked in the programme, including the special Forest of Bowland Outlier walk on Saturday 6th September. This is also a special year for Pendle, as we celebrate our 40th birthday as a Borough. If you’re looking for a challenge we can certainly offer you one - or rather three! We have a walking marathon, the Pendle Way, and the country’s newest long distance route: the Lancashire Witches Walk. Nearly every part of Pendle is touched by the magnificent 45 mile Pendle Way. You too can experience the treasures of this fantastic area yourself, walking the whole route over four thrilling days. Or why not re-enact the walk that the Pendle Witches took over 400 years ago by following the 51 mile Lancashire Witches Walk? This atmospheric walk takes you from Pendle Heritage Centre in Barrowford, where you can visit the Pendle Witches exhibition, to Lancaster Castle where the women thought to

be witches were hanged. We also have a walking marathon which starts in the small town of Earby, which has its own Youth Hostel. If you complete any of these challenges, we will reward your efforts with our now famous Certificates of Achievement. These challenge walks are not charged for, but because they are linear walks we are providing transport to take you back to your start point. The cost for the transport is listed below. You will need to book beforehand for these walks. Book sooner rather than later, because spaces are limited. This will also give you a better chance to book the accommodation you need.

Transport BookingsPendle Marathon (walk 43) £8 per personPendle Way (walks 2, 11, 26 & 36) £23 per person (one stage £8)Lancashire Witches Walk (walks 1, 19, 33 & 51) £40 per person (one stage £13)

Bookings on a first come, first served basis. Preference will be given to those wanting to book all of the stages on any of these walks. Please book and pay for your transport on 01282 856186.
