Freddie Mercury (birht name Farrokh Bulsara , 5th September 1946 – 24th November 1991) was a British musician, singer and songwriter, best known as the vocalist of the rock band Queen.

As a songwriter, Mercury composed many hits for Queen, including "Killer Queen", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Somebody to Love", "We Are the Champions", "Bicycle Race", "Don't Stop Me Now" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"

In 2006, Time Asia named him one of the most influential Asian heroes of the past 60 years, and he continues to be voted one of the greatest singers in the history of popular music.

Mercury was born in Shangani Govt. At the age of eight years, he was sent to India to study at St. Peter's School. In the school was part of a band called The Hectics, where he played the piano. A friend of his said that the singer had "an incredible ability to listen to the radio and play melodies on the piano"

It was also at St. Peter's where he began to be more known as Freddie Mercury , nickname that also adopted its family. Mercuy step in India, most of his childhood, living with his grandmother and aunt. He completed his education at St. Mary's School in Bombay.

After his graduation at the university of West Thames ,participated in two bands that had been dissolved. In April 1970, Mercury met the guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, who had been in a band called Smile. Mercury chose the name "Queen" for the new band.

Mercury was diagnosed with aids, but said in an interview that was not sick . The 22nd November , 1991, Mercury called the Queen's manager Jim Beach, to discuss a public matter. The next day, made public his disease .

The 24th November, 1991, Mercury died at the age of 45 years.In his funeral were people such as Elton John, David Bowie and the members of Queen.

One of the memories that freddie mercury left us was the song that devoted to Montserrat Caballé ( Barcelona ) . The 8 October 1988 with the arrival of the Olympic flag to the city of Barcelona , became a festival where they sang together this song.

After his death at the olympic games in 1992, the main theme was Barcelona . In 1996 it made a statue of Freddie Mercury.
