3 100 insects in house and garden

3 100 species in direct comparison

Splendid colour photos show mosquitoes, aphids & Co. larger than life with all important characteristics, but also in their original size so that you can reliably identify them. In addition, the biologist answers frequently asked questions about: Pest or no pest? Stings or doesn’t sting? Harmless or even helpful? Practical knowledge for everyone who wants to learn about and protect insects.

Matthias Helb is a biologist specializing in animal physio-logy. He is passionate about insects. Many research trips have led him to the most remote corners of the earth. An insect he newly discovered even carries his name.

Dear colleagues,

dear friends,

We are pleased to be presenting this autumn’s collection which we believe off ers a perfect mix for interested readers of illustrated guide-books, covering our traditional programme segments for nature lovers, hobby-gardeners and astro-nomers, dog and pet holders, hunters and rod fi shers, for riders of all levels, and, last but not least, for amateur cooks.

Life-Sized Garden Birds, our national and in-ternational best-seller with more than 40,000 copies sold plus six licenses granted to diff erent countries is going to be followed by a similar title about insects and we are very optimistic that we will be selling this title as successfully as its fellow-title.

We are especially proud of our continuously expanding cartrographic programme: in Octo-ber a map-making masterpiece with high-end carto graphy will be launched (see p. 18) and we are confi dent that we will expand our internati-onal business activities in this fi eld. Please also have a look at our other atlasses on pages 20 and 21.

I’d be happy to meet you for a personal chat in Frankfurt to present to you our new releases. As always, please contact [email protected] for appointment requests, orders of sample copies and questions about the availabilty of rights.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Best regards

3 Is contact with aliens possible?

3 Scientifi cally established scenarios for an unexpectedly risky topic

Science is united: contact with aliens is not utopian, but only a question of time. Th is book for the fi rst time introduces the scenarios for this emergency which were developed during research. What happens if we are discovered in our hideaway earth? Will governments even tell us? How will the media react? Gerritzen describes the eff ects of a fi rst contact on humanity in a scientifi cally sound and fascinatingly written man-ner and shows how risky it is to suppress this topic.

3 The book about the astronomy sen-sation of the year

3 First-hand expert knowledge

February 11, 2016: the world of science is spellbound and holds its breath ... and the scientists of the Amer-ican LIGO project actually managed to prove the mys-terious gravitational waves. A Nobel prize-worthy mile-stone and late triumph for Einstein’s theory of space and time. Dr. Günter Spanner participated in developing the measuring devices. He reports fi rst-hand and in a way anyone can understand what you must know about gravitational waves, why they open a new window into space and which additional fi ndings are to be expected.
