Fraser Valley Resource Guide 2014 6

FOREWORD

This Publication is provided by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada’s Fraser Valley Chapter.

All resources are located within the Fraser Valley. The purpose of this publication is to increase

access to resources in the community to people affected by MS.

Realizing you need help can be emotional, whether you are the caregiver or the person needing

care. Figuring out how to find this help can be overwhelming as you may have many questions:

What kind of help do I need?

What kind of help is available?

Where do I start?

This guide will provide information to help you address these questions. Making the decision to

get help is tough enough; getting help should not be.

While not every resource provided in this guide will be suitable for you, we hope you come

across opportunities that will allow you to achieve a healthier, more comfortable lifestyle.

Additional Resources

The following resources aim to educate people with MS on how to remain independent and

safe at home, or to simply improve their quality of life.

Deciding what kind of help you need can be overwhelming. Once you have a clearer picture of what you need, finding the appropriate support is easier. Creating a worksheet to assess your needs can be helpful in this process. See the National MS Society’s guide: “Hiring Help at Home: The Basic Facts” for a needs assessment worksheet: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/NationalMSSociety/media/MSNationalFiles/Brochures/Brochure-Hiring-Help-at-Home.pdf

Care-ring Voice is a free, bilingual and confidential program that connects caregivers and families to information and support through the use of tele-learning. They host telephone and online learning sessions and discuss a range of caregiving topics. Visit www.careringvoice.com for more information. The MS Society partnered with the Care-ring Voice Network on June 4th, 2008 to offer a national tele-learning session that connected caregivers and families to information and support.
