Frank SlideBy Tyler Chomyn

What is the Frank Slide? Frank slide is one of the deadliest landslide in North American history that happened in a small, bustling village called “Frank”, beside a mountain called “Turtle Mountain” ( just east of CrowsNestPass).

How did this happen?

The mountain’s structure was unstable in the first place, but miners removing rocks caused Turtle Mountain to be more unstable, plus the rain and snow that moves the soil on the mountain, and in 1903 the mountain finally collapsed.

What was the damage?

At least 76 people were buried alive under tons of massive boulders; three-quarters of the homes in Frank were crushed. The Canadian Pacific Railroad was completely destroyed, and a river became a lake. The cost is unknown.
