Frances Towers, born in Calcutta in 1885 .She went to school in Bedford from the age of nine. She worked at the Bank of England between 1905-

1931, as a clerk and then as Assistant to the Supervisor.

She wrote articles and entered literary competitions and spent her

holidays abroad indulging her passions for Gothic architecture, Old

Masters and mountains. Her first short story was published in 1929.

Most of Frances Towers' short stories were written during the late 1940s, but she died suddenly of pneumonia on New Year's Day 1948, the year before the publication of her only book Tea with Mr Rochester.

The era of Frances Towers was the era of second World War.

Germany invaded Poland on 1939. Britain declared war on Germany. Most devastating war the world could

ever imagine. Blood and flesh everywhere.

Britain remained the one of two major forces continuing the fight against the Axis in North Africa and in naval warfare.

During May 1940, British troops on the continent were forced into one of the largest evacuations in history

July to October 1940, the English people suffered under the Battle of Britain: intense German bombing .

Great Britain lost over 300,000 fighting men and over 60,000 civilians in World War II.

A well furnished attractive house like an oasis in dessert.

Simon Byrne and Stephen Elyot. Lisby has a little willow tree that is the

loveliest thing that she has.

Simon and Brenda Simon and Lisby Simon is more of her type. He judges a

painting by its spirituality as Lisby does. He takes her little willow tree saying that he used to dream of them when he was in a desert.

Lisby fells in love with Simon but is very shy to confess.

At the last evening of his leave; Simon comes to say good-bye.

Lisby presented him the loveliest thing she ever had, the little willow. And asks him to come back.

Simon looks at her as if he wants to say something to her but hesitated and turns away.

Lisby sorts out post daily in vain. Simon never writes.

Richard Harkness comes back from prison camp in Germany and says that Simon was a prisoner in the same offlag.He died last year.

Brenda hears the news quite conveniently.

Lisby sits still on the chair then gets herself out of the room.

Charlotte gets married to Richard Harkness on a golden day.

Brenda asks Captain Oliver about Simon. He does not make an addition in her

knowledge. Rather he requests Lisby to talk to her

alone.Lisby gets pale.

In a small yellow room Caption Oliver asks Lisby if her sister has gifted a little willow to Simon.

Delivers Simon’s message wondering that if he is exploring the reality to the right girl.

Oliver tells Lisby that Simon was badly injured in war. But he never left hope. As it was an inner source of happiness that let him alive.

Oliver tells her that Simon told him about a little girl who gifted him a little willow.

Oliver reveals the truth that Simon was in love with Lisby.

Simon died the next morning. Lisby starts chafing her hands. So Simon

understands that he had reached the right person.

Oliver get himself out of the room.
