FRAMING AND REFRAMING-LOOK AT BREAD IN A DIFFERENT WAY-

A Crash Course on Creativity

BREAD CAN BE PERCEIVED IN MANY WAYS…….

It is found almost everywhere and served/accompanied with almost everything. It has become such a common food type or we may have so much of it that we forget its true value and may end up throwing pieces of it into the rubbish can!

BUT THERE’S MORE TO THAT WHICH WE SHOULDN’T FORGET ….

BREAD CAN BE PERCEIVED IN MANY WAYS….(2)

BREAD has been the basis of our Christian/Orthodox religion whereby:

we have Holy Communion with it

we bake it and take it to church so as to bless our deceased ones at their memorials

BREAD has been the basis of our parents’ generation who:

grew up in poverty and ate it with sugar to fill up their stomachs Used it to create sandwiches for us to take to school and slowly

grow up into adults

OTHER USES OF BREAD …. Therefore bread should not be thrown out especially in these times

of Financial Crisis. There are poor families who would do anything to have just a piece of it to feed their children.

There are two types of left-over bread: (1) that which has become very tough and not so soft when it is

firstly bought or freshly baked

AND

(2) that which has cannot be eaten.

SINCE we grew up giving great value to bread, and not underestimating it our team decided to re-use any left-over bread in several delicious, edible, and creative ways!

Making pizza has never been so easy! Plain bread can be used in place of dough! And it’s equally delicious and appetizing!

Special Recipe from our grandmother: We named it Katsoura! We cut the bread in slices, we sprinkle a slice with a little water, and we fry it in hot olive oil for 3 minutes. Then we apply some sugar and cinnamon on the slice and it's ready to be eaten

INEDIBLE BREAD CAN BE TRANSPOSED AS BELOW

Inedible bread, oddly enough, can be used for creating ornaments and decorative pieces. This is what our team has envisioned. Just by using the bread crumb and wood glue, you can create whatever your heart desires!

Page 12: Framing and re-framing

FIRST THINGS FIRST:

We took our inedible bread and cut the bottom part to create a hole. Then we scooped out the crumb.

GETTING BUSY, “BREAD STYLE”

We layered the crumbs to dry and placed the hollowed loaf of bread to dry out. As you guessed it, we left nothing go to waste!

A HAND OF HELP: TEAM KNEADING

Using our bread crumbs and plain wood glue, we kneaded them into a moldable dough that was going into creating our bread artifacts.

OUR TEAM IN ACTION! BUSY AREN’T WE?

HUMBLE YET CLASSY BREAD BOWL:

In the meantime, the bread was ready and we let it cool. Then, we sprayed it with a varnish, so it gets a nice glossy shine and so it will preserve in time.

SURPRISINGLY, WE WERE MORE CREATIVE AND SKILLFUL THAN WE EVER IMAGINED! GO CREATIVITY!

CONCLUSION: FINAL WORDS

The value of bread should not be underestimated or taken for granted. It has been, is, and will always be a basic necessity for past, present and future generations. It doesn’t mean that because it is easily accessible and found anywhere that we can easily throw out any leftovers. Instead, there are plenty of ways to transform it into something delicious as an evening snack or even a preserved decoration in our homes or for charity sales- something which our team tried hard to emphasize. Whatever the result, no piece of bread should go to waste for any reason!
