drawing a picture using
unusual colours - maybe a
yellow sky, pink tree, green

English: ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt Please Don’t Quit
Beside the name of each colour crayon, write 3 reasons why you don’t think they should quit.
Red – I don’t think the red crayon would quit because drawings of strawberries would no longer look yummy, Santa wouldn’t have his bright suit and fire wouldn’t look so amazing. These are the reasons that the red crayon should not quit.

Mathematics: Warm up: Play guess my number with 1 or more others Play Multiplication Madness (Instructions below) Making Groups
Students use 2 dice to model groups. First die tells ‘how many groups or rows’ and the second die tells ‘how many objects in each group’. Have children describe groups and objects as a story e.g. 4 plates of 5 cookies is 20 cookies. Use attached worksheets or copy onto paper.
Mathematics: Warm up: Play Add 5 dice Play Multiplication Madness What is an array?
Colour an Array (Grid paper attached)
Roll two dice. One die will represent the number of rows and the other die will represent the number of columns. Students colour in the corresponding number of squares on the grid paper to form an array.
Mathematics: Warm up: Play Race to 100 Play Bust 100 or 200
Properties of arrays
Roll 2 dice. Use objects of the same size to make an array (e.g. biscuits, pasta, lego) on a piece of paper. E.g. 3 rows of 4. Carefully turn the paper on its side to make a new array, e.g. 4 rows of 3. Discuss similarities between both arrays. Continue rolling 2 dice and make new arrays. Draw and label 3 different examples in your book or on paper. What happens when the dice are the same? (E.g. 3 rows of 3 and you turn the array around?)
Mathematics: Warm up: Play Doubles Play Bust 100 or 200

letter to letter. Try your right leg/ left leg jump with both feet. How else can you move from letter to letter? Be creative. Make sure you have enough vowels and avoid letters like X and Z. How many words can you spell? To make it a bit easier the letters don't need to be touching, to make it a bit harder the letters do need to be touching. Try a grid that has 16 letters, 4 x 4. If you wan't to try more, rub out the letters with a wet cloth and change the letters. If you'd like a scoring system 2 letter words = 2 points 3 letter words = 3 points 4 letter words = 4 points etc

Maths Games Multiplication Madness Roll 2 dice and multiply the two numbers together. Then place a counter (button, lego etc) on the hundreds chart where the answer is shown. The next player then has their turn and repeats the same process but uses a different coloured counter. The first person with 4 counters in a row on the hundreds chart is the winner. If playing solo, see how many turns it takes to get 4 counters in a row. What is your record? Race to 100 (use 2 dice or sets of numeral cards 1-6) Version 1 Player 1 rolls the dice and makes a 2 digit number. Player one then arranges the numbers to make a 2 digit number, e.g. if you rolled a 4 and 1 you could make 41 or 14. Player 2 then does the same. Player 1 rolls both dice again then adds this number to their first answer. E.g. 23 + 15 = 38. You may use any strategy to work out your answer e.g. draw a number line or use a 100 chart. Player 2 then has their turn and does the same. You each have 5 rolls to get as close to 100 as possible. You must use all 5 rolls. Think about the best way to order the digits!!! After 5 rolls the person closest to 100 wins. Version 2 As above but each player starts with 100 points and must subtract the number they make. E.g. 100 - 23 = 77. After 5 rolls, the winner is the player closest to zero. Doubles (with cards, 1 to 9) Players take turns to turn over a card. They must then double the number by multiplying by 2. The player with the highest wins a point. The first player with 10 points wins the game. Write out the 1st five turns as number sentences e.g. 4 + 4 = 8, 9+9 = 18. Bust 100 Play the same as Add to 100 except start at 100 and take away the number that you turn over (or dice that you roll). E.g. If you turn over or roll a 5, write: 100 - 5 = 95. Then if turn over or roll a 2, write: 95 - 2 = 93. Repeat until you get to zero. Optional: Start at 200
Maths Worksheet: Monday - Making Groups Put sheet in plastic sleeve. Students place dice in the squares to make their number sentence and write the answer with a whiteboard marker. (Or copy the number
sentences onto paper.) Repeat at least 10 times to make 10 different number sentences.

Lesson 12: Managing Embarrassment
From the last lesson about Tiana, think about and discuss why running and hiding won’t help Tiana.
Tiana decides to use some self-talk to help calm her down. She says to herself “Stop”. What else could she say? (Chill out, relax, calm down, freeze).
Tiana notices her body feeling uncomfortable (hot face, heart beating fast). She recognises and names her feeling as embarrassment. She begins to calm down as she realises it’s not a big deal and could happen to anyone.
Discuss the 2 Calming-Down Steps that Tiana used (Stop. Name your feeling). Think about and discuss a situation where you could use these steps.
Please visit https://bit.ly/SSGrade2Lesson12 for a direct video recording of Lesson 12 from Second Step.
