The primary objectives for thedevelopment of PCimage-SDIGwere to achieve the flexibility, reliability and long-time supplycapability that are vital forindustrial applications. Thesetargets were achieved byexclusively using industrialcomponents, whilst freelyprogrammable components

offer sufficient potential tomeet unforeseeable futuredemands relating to the captureof future standard and non-standard signal sources.

Image capture

The PCimage-SDIG image processing boardis a multistandard field grabber for digitalcameras and other video signal sources withdigital output. PCimage-SDIG provides amodule interface for adaptation to variousnon-standardized camera interfaces. Ter-minal adapters at these ports facilitateoptimal adaptation to the camera. Up to 32bit input data bandwidth. Input signalsource resolution is neither horizontally norvertically limited, thus making it possibleto capture line camera signals continuously.Flexible pixel formating and addressingmake possible digitalization and real-timerepresentation of nonstandard signal for-mats and sequences such as mirror-imagedsignals, multi-channel cameras, 2-fieldcameras and 4-quadrant sensor cameras.

Standard portThe board comes with a 8/10-bit port asstandard. PCimage-SDIG has digital outputswhich can be used to control connectedcameras. Scanning rates up to 32 MHz. Alookup table can preprocess 8/10-bit inputdata and transform data into the desiredpixel format at 8 to 16 bit resolution.

AIA moduleWider band digital signal sources up to 24bit can be captured with the AIA input mo-dule. The input lookup table is split into 16 bit ➝ 16 bit and 8 bit ➝ 8 bit, thusallowing 24 bit color data to be transformed, too. Non-utilized input signals can be usedas additional output signals for cameracontrol, e.g. for external synchronization,restart/reset, flash control, camera pro-gramming, etc.

High-speed “Autobahn™”The serial high-speed “Autobahn™” link isideal for transferring broadband and high-speed video signals. The link is implemen-ted via a Twinax cable, allowing data to betransferred over a distance of up to 20 mand at a rate of 100 MB/sec. An addtionalcontrol signal line is not needed since the

“Autobahn™” link operates bidirectionallyin half-duplex mode, i.e. control informationcan be transmitted to the camera at thesame transfer rate during blank phases.

Autobahn™ Tx/Rx module

A digital Autobahn™-transceiver module for evaluation is available for simple ad-aptation to signal sources with a paralleloutput. The max. input data rate is 25 MHzat a bandwidth of 32 bit. The module canbe used directly or integrated in a separatecircuit.

An analog Autobahn™ transceivermodule is being prepared for demandingapplications (up to 40 MHz and 12 bit ADC).Thanks to video signal digitalization direc-tly at the source and digital transfer via asimple medium, it is possible to capturesignals with much better quality comparedwith conventional digitalization on a PC-board. The high-speed reverse LAN chan-nel permits real-time image capture controlby the computer system.

DMA transferThe PCimage-SDIG system interface is a busmaster compatible PCI interface. Once theDMA parameters have been programmed,it continuously transfers the video data tothe system’s main memory or VGA board– for display – without utilizing any addi-tional CPU power. The transfer is imple-mented in real-time at the maximum PCIburst transfer rate of 132 MB/sec. As soonas a line has been digitalized, the video dataare available for further processing in themain memory. Video data memory can beallocated dynamically while the program isrunning.

Live representation withoverlayVideo data is output in real time to VGAmonitor in the form of a grey-scale imageor color image. A graphics overlay over thevideo image is possible without utilizing CPUpower thanks to the support of the Direct-Draw driver now available for all suitablegraphic boards or by means of selectiveDMA transfer.

SoftwareLibraries

The scope of supply of PCimage-SDIG in-cludes Libraries for Windows 3.1, Windo-ws 95 and Windows NT as well as DOS in32 bit mode. The libraries comprise all thefunctions required to activate the hardware. The function requests are compatible withall other MATRIX Vision Image processingboards.

MVpilot32

The MVpilot32 demo program for Windo-ws supplied with the board lets you test andadapt a camera to PCimage-SDIG, whilst thecapture and display parameters can be mo-dified interactively. The program is suppliedwith source code, which means you can useit as the basis for your own applicationsunder Windows 95 and Windows NT.

ImagePro Plus driver

The ImagePro Plus high-performance imageprocessing package by Media Cyberneticsis also supported.
