☺multiplying and dividing ☺When multiplying or dividing you take two numbers ( 12 and 6) then you divide the two and you get the answer 2.

12 / 6 = 2

12 x 6 = 72

Adding and Subtracting• To add or subtract is like eating cookies like when you eat

them you are subtracting from how many you have. But when you put more on the plate you are adding. At both times there could be a point where you have to borrow from the tens place. You only have to borrow when the number subtracting is higher than the ones place number.

Adding and subtracting with fractionsYou have to look at the denominators try to get them to be the same. Then you add or subtract the numerators• 29-14=15 12-6=6

Common denominators ♥

• With common denominators you would have two fractions or more. To get a common denominator you have to either divide or multiply to get the same number for the fractions.

• 2/5 and 4/5 have common denominators • So are 6/9 and 2/9 (>’-’)># “Do you

want a waffle?”

But 2/4 and 3/6 are not• To get common denominators • You would reduce and get ½ for both

Reducing ☺

To reduce something is to get it to lowest terms

Examples:

And = 1

Reciprocals

• Reciprocals are fractions that are multiplied by their opposite like for example ½ x 2/1. That’s a reciprocal.

Mixed Numbers And Improper Fractions

• They are both fractions that could be reduced• They also have a numerator and denominator• The fraction could be changed into a mixed

number if it was an improper fraction and the mixed number can go back to being an improper fraction.

Examples: 1 + 1 = 2 or 3 + = or 15. 1 + 4 = 7 … + 1 = 4

WORD PROBLEMS!!!

Words problems are most likely used to describe or explain a problem that you had to figure outA problem you did in math . when explaining a word problem you use facts about what you did in your math problem Thus this is a word problem .
