. o` e St. Peter Roman Catholic Church Mission Statement

Our mission is to proclaim the Kingdom of God by living the Gospel

of Jesus Christ through Word, Sacrament, and Service as taught by

the Roman Catholic Church. St. Peter Parish is a community of

dedicated Catholics centered on the Eucharist, which is the source

and the summit of all that we do and hope to become. Approved August 19, 2014

PARISH SACRAMENTS

SACRAMENT OF THE MOST HOLY EUCHARIST

As a parish, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is central to who we are and what we do.

Regular Mass Times are listed on the front of the

bulletin. Please contact the office for special Mass times during Lent and Holy Days of Obligation. To

receive formation for First Holy Communion,

contact the Parish Office, 896-9408.

SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION Essential to the Christian Life, the Sacrament of Confession is where we come into

contact with Christ who wishes to heal and bless us.

Regular Confession is an integral part of practicing

our Faith and experiencing the peace and joy of a

personal relationship with Jesus. For the Sacrament

of Confession schedule see next page under “Mark Your Calendar”. If you need to receive the

Sacrament of Confession for the first time, contact

the Parish Office, 896-9408.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Through the waters of Baptism, the new Christian enters the Church and is given Eternal

Life. To have your infant baptized, please contact

the Parish Office at least 2-4 months prior to the baby’s due date so that there is enough time to

complete preparation for the Sacrament.

Parents should be registered, participating members of the Parish Family.

Proposed Sponsors (Godparents) should be

attending Mass regularly. Both parents and sponsors receive a Baptismal Packet which must be

completed and received before attendance at a

Baptismal instruction class is scheduled. A Baptismal date is determined after all Church

requirements are satisfied.

If you are a parent or an adult seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, please contact the Parish

Office, 896-9408.

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE In the beginning, God created mankind

as one, male and female. Christ elevated this union to the level of a Sacrament, an image of His own love

for His Bride, The Church. Our Parish Family is

made up of many beautiful marriages who enrich the Church and the world. Couples discerning the

vocation of Holy Matrimony should contact the

Parish Office to begin the journey of preparing for their new life together no later than 6-9 months prior

to the desired wedding date.

SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK AND FUNERAL/BURIAL

ARRANGEMENTS The Church and her Sacraments

accompany us at every moment of our life. When

we are very sick or nearing the end of this life, we receive the healing of Christ through Anointing of

the Sick. Please contact the Parish Office, 896-9408,

to make an appointment. Also, contact the church office before

you contact anyone else in making funeral

arrangements. We are here to guide you through that most difficult time.

ACTS OF SPRIRTUAL COMMUNION It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

THE MONTH OF MAY IS DEDICATED TO:

OUR MOST BLESSED MOTHER The month of May is a special time to honor Mary, our Blessed Mother. We honor Mary in our prayers and devotions to her, especially in our recitation of the Holy Rosary.

"... for the more she is honored, the greater is the glory of her Son. There can be no doubt that whatever we say in praise of the Mother gives equal praise to the Son."

~St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Father and Doctor of the Church

Honor our Blessed Mother and take advantage of her promises by joining the parish Rosary & Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary being prayed before all Masses in the month of May here at St. Peter’s.

OUR LADY’S 15 PROMISES TO THOSE WHO PRAY THE ROSARY Imparted to Saint Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche

1) Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.

2) I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.

3) The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.

4) The Rosary will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire for eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5) The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.

6) Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

7) Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

8) Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

9) I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.

10) The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.

11) You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.

12) All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.

13) I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.

14) All who recite the Rosary are my sons and daughters, and brothers and sisters of my only Son Jesus Christ.

15) Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

PRAYER TO MARY

Mother, now that the need is at its greatest

and the powers of darkness seem to have free rein,

we come to you with childlike trust and implore your powerful aid.

We consecrate ourselves to you. Preserve us in the love of your Son, protect us from the evil of this world

and lead us safe to the heart of God. Amen.

ALLELUIA! HE IS RISEN!

ALLELUIA! HE IS RISEN!

PRAYER TO THE RISEN CHRIST in the 50 days of Easter…

Heavenly Father and God of mercy, we no longer look

for Jesus among the dead, for He is alive

and has become the Lord of life. From the waters of death

You raise us with Him and renew Your gift of life within us.

Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ and help us to grow as Your people

toward the fullness of Eternal Life with You.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

REGINA COELI

The Easter prayer Regina Coeli (“Queen of Heaven” in Latin) is a wonderful tribute to our Lord’s resurrection and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Although its origins are unknown, it dates back to the 13th century. Traditionally, it is prayed standing, often at noon, in place of another well-known prayer, the Angelus, during the Easter Season from Holy Saturday until Pentecost.

Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. / The Son whom you merited to bear, alleluia.

Has risen, as He said, alleluia. /

Pray for us to God, alleluia.

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. / For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS

Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? ~Mk 16:3

REFLECTION: On Easter morning, little did the women know that the stone had already been rolled away and that Jesus was alive.

But the women’s question persists today. Who will roll away the stone for us? Who will free humanity from death, from sin, and from despair? How do we roll away the culture of death?

PRAYER: Lord, renew my faith that the stone has been rolled back already and that Your victory is among us!

THE MONTH OF MAY IS DEDICATED TO:

OUR MOST BLESSED MOTHER

"God wills that all His gifts should come to us through Mary" ~St. Bernard

Traditionally, the Church dedicates each month of the year to a particular devotion. In the month of May we honor in a special way, Mary, our Most Blessed Mother. This devotion arose among the Jesuits in Rome in the late 18th century. From there it spread to the whole Church. There are many ways in which to honor Our Lady this month:

❖ Praying the Rosary ❖ May Crowning ❖ Five Consecutive First Saturdays of the Month

and Wearing the Brown Scapular ❖ “Do Whatever He Tells You.”

Praying the Rosary, either as a private or a family devotion is an excellent way to honor Mary and meditate on the life of Jesus. You may also want to join the parish Rosary which is prayed each weekday here at St. Peters before the 6:30am Mass. Learn about the promises of our Lady to those who make the devotion of five consecutive First Saturdays of the month [see next page] and the promises to those who are enrolled in her Brown Scapular [see next week’s bulletin]. Next Sunday we celebrate our parish’s annual May Crowning in honor of Our Most Blessed Mother at the 9:00am Mass. Two candidates of First Holy Communion will be present to represent our parish’s love for Our Lady. One will carry a wreath of fresh blossoms, symbolizing Mary’s virtues, and the other will carry a Rosary to present to the Blessed Mother. Perhaps the best way to honor Our Mother is by keeping in mind her words at the Wedding of Cana when, speaking of Jesus, she instructs us to, “Do whatever He tells you.”

"This is the month in which, in the churches and individual homes, the most affectionate and fervent homage of prayers and devotions from the hearts of Christians are raised to Mary. It is also the month in which from His throne descend upon us the most generous and abundant gifts of the Divine Mercy."

~Paul VI, The Month of Mary, 1967

“It is impossible in human terms to exaggerate

the importance of being in adoration before the

Eucharist as often and for as long as our duties

and state of life allow.” ~Fr. John Hardon

THE FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION

In the July 13, 1917 apparition at Fatima, Our Lady said, “I shall come to ask for…the Communion of Reparation on the first Saturdays.” She came expressly to request this devotion when she appeared to Sister Lucia on December 10, 1925, in Pontevedra, Spain, where she was preparing to start her religious life.

THE MOTIVES FOR THE DEVOTION

While Sister Lucia was in the chapel with Our Lord during part of the night of May 29-30, 1930, He explained the motivation for the devotion. This explanation answered the question

posed by her confessor about why the number should be five Saturdays and not nine to correspond with the nine First Fridays, or seven to correspond with Our Lady’s seven sorrows. Our Lord responded that there are five ways that people offend and blaspheme against the Immaculate Heart of Mary: 1. Offences or blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception – its denial and/or ridicule 2. Against her perpetual virginity 3. Against her divine maternity, refusing to accept her as the Mother of God and Mother of all mankind 4. Those who implant in children’s hearts, indifference, contempt and even hate against our Immaculate Mother 5. Insults directed against her sacred images –displays of indifference or ridicule, and the infliction of damage to them.

THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF DEVOTION

With the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart for these five offenses, we are asked to: 1. Go to confession (Can be within 8 days before or after the First Saturday) 2. Receive Holy Communion (If there is no Saturday Mass or due to the COVID pandemic, one can offer a Spiritual Communion, see below) 3. Pray five decades of the Rosary 4. Keep Our Lady company for 15 minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

THE GREAT PROMISE

Our Lady promised to assist all those who will practice the devotion of the first Saturday on five consecutive months with the graces necessary for salvation at the hour of their death.

PROMISE NOT A GUARANTEE OF HEAVEN

It would be a serious mistake to think that those who practice the devotion on five consecutive First Saturdays are guaranteed passage into heaven when the moment of their death arrives. Our cooperation with grace is always required.

A LIFE-LONG DEVOTION, NOT MERELY FIVE 1st SATURDAYS

The promise associated with the practice of the devotion on five consecutive First Saturdays has been mistakenly construed by many to mean that, once one has completed a series of five, they have accomplished the devotion and are finished. This was not Our Lady’s intention in making the promise and has resulted in far fewer people practicing the devotion. Our regular practice of the First Saturdays is a sign of our devotion to the Immaculate Heart and a desire on our part to make reparation for the blasphemies against her.

“To succeed in your intentions, entrust yourselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary always, but especially in moments of difficulty and darkness. ‘From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s will in things. From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone. From Mary we learn to love Christ, her Son and the Son of God…Learn from her to be always faithful, to trust that God’s Word to you will be fulfilled, and that nothing is impossible with God.’”

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT - FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER In today’s Gospel reading on “the vine and the branches,” Jesus offers a quintessential stewardship statement: “Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” The theme of this reading is “fruitfulness.” We hear the expression “bear fruit” five times. And “bearing fruit” is not something that the branches can do by themselves. They are extensions of the vine, Jesus, and are pruned by the gardener, God the Father, who wants them to be fruitful and to be drawn into the unity of the Father and Son. Good stewards recognize that God’s love, presence, gardening and pruning are gifts. Do our lives reflect a capacity to be fruitful? Do we believe that by hearing the Word of the Lord and responding, we not only produce “good fruit,” but abide in the very life of God?

TITHING DURING CORONAVIRUS

GIVING OPTIONS IN THESE

CHALLENGING TIMES

Many of you have continued your church parish tithing by mailing in your Offering. We are extremely grateful and encourage you to continue to do so. Another option available to you at no additional cost to you or to the parish is to set up recurring Offering payments directly through your personal bank. On-line giving through our website is another option available to you, however, there are transaction fees that are incurred by the church parish through this method of giving. While we all face financial hardship and uncertainty at this time, we encourage you to give either through mail-in or direct payments through your bank to save the church parish the associated fees. This allows the church parish to make full use of your generous Offerings. Again, THANK YOU for continuing to support St. Peter Catholic Church through your charitable contributions. Your sacrifice and support is what allows us to continue our mission of meeting the spiritual needs of all our parishioners and pay our parish bills.
