Spring 2014:

WeWe are seeing a turn away from some of last years shiny fabrics and Neon’s with a new natural & muted palate. This trend focuses on the calming qualities of white this season while softening it with fleshy tintstints of nudes and light pas-tels. Silhouttes include nice clean lines and structured ele-ments.

Trend Report

Page 13: FOXY MAMA

For kids, this trend still focuses on the cleanliness of whites with light pastels but also using a lounder pastel pallete of neons. The geometric shapes get their inspiration from chil-dren’s toys, such as building blocksblocks and puzzles, created by using pleats and folds in a planned manner.

Page 14: FOXY MAMA

Inspired by vibrant people/cul-tures from around the world such as the Holi Festival and Frida Kahlo, this trend brings together a vibrant palette of strong colors in a range of intense rainbow hues with a hinthint of black and strong prints. Mix

Page 15: FOXY MAMA

This trend for kids also uses vibrant rainbow hues but is more inspired by the tropical and adventurous culture of the jungle and the animals that live in it. Instead of florals, animal prints as well as graphics of fruit and animals emerge.fruit and animals emerge.

Molly Guy grew up in Chicago, gradu-ated from Brown, moved to New York, and worked at Jane and Nylon Magazine as a writer and editor. At age 32 she was working in a boring, windowless office in NYC writing package copy for the back of beauty products. That’s when she realized she needed some-thing new and exciting career wise. At the time, she was also busy planning her own wedding, giving her the creative outlet she needed. “Getting married was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. I was proud, truthfully, that I’d done it, all of it, that I’d survived. The dating, the dark days, the

Saturn return, proud that I was, well—alive and in love, really—after my fiance proposed I went to nearly every bridal salon in the city, hoping some young hip smart salesgirl with good style would get the vibe I was going for (low-key, chic); instead I encountered satin chaises andand 17 thousand dollar dresses with whole rhinestone roses sewed into the seams...". After her wedding, she decided to save all other brides who share her similar struggle and open up her own bridal showroom, which she named Stone Fox Bride.

Stone Fox Bride is a laid-back, high-fashion, punk-bohemian bridal showroom in downtown NYC. They specialize in wedding dresses, veils, flower crowns, engagement rings, as well as providing amazing spiritual guidance for brides-to-be. The show-room is dressed with dreamcatchers, room is dressed with dreamcatchers, wildflowers and cacti, crystals, indian rugs, Moroccan wedding blankets, and a huge Confetti System tent. They carry specialty dresses designed by Ryan Roche, Electric Feathers, One Titel, and many more. Stone Fox Bride also collaborates with designers such as collaborates with designers such as Pamela Love, to make vintage garters, and working on a house line called “Fox” which is scheduled to debut in March ’13.

When you walk into Stone Fox Bride you instantly feel relaxed, at home, peaceful, and beautiful. Not only does the scenery make you feel that way, but so does Molly. She is care-free, funny, inspiring, and says how she feels and means what she says. She has an amazing vision of how weddings should be a magical, meaningful, ceremony of love and she helps brides reach that. When she isn’t busy with foxy wedding stuff, hunting for vintage Indian dresses, doing yoga, or having long lunches with friends, she is being a new Foxy Mama to her 9-month year old daughter, Sunny Guy, in Brooklyn.

Foxy Mama: How would you describe your style?Molly: Low- maintenance, tomboy, hippie, Grateful Dead parking lot, Isabel Marant whore, with a little bit of Jewish American princess mixed in. Balenciaga, diamonds, dirt.FM: WhaFM: Whatʼ’s your go-to outfit?M: Isabel Marant grey suede boots, Surface to Air sweater, Current Elliot jeans, vintage poncho, and an old tee. FM: What set Stone Fox Bride apart from other bridal companies?M:M: We try to cater to girls who care more about their own personal style than about looking like some picture bride in a magazine.FM: Where do you get your inspiration from for your new collections and your overall aesthetic for Stone Fox Bride?M: I pretty much have had the same aesthetic since I was 9. I love National aesthetic since I was 9. I love National

Geographic, picture books, the cultures ofIndia and South Africa, old fashion magazines, Bob Richardson photos, and my friends closets.FM: What kind of sustainability do you involve within Stone Fox Bride?M:M: We don’t use fur. Fur sucks. Our angora vests that we carry are from our friend, Elvis the angora bunny, who lets us use his sheddedshedded hair. In our new collection we are working with creating a lot of textures out of raw textiles to create the look of fur without using it, using Peace silk, and working with natural dyes a lot. I also like to conduct sustainabilitysustainability in the business model itself by having no paper waste and using eco-friendly cleaning products/services, as well as using local designers and not having an excessive amount of inventory.

FM: How is it balancing being a new Foxy Mama and starting a new fashion company?M: It’s really fun because I just have to nurture two babies at the same time, it’s like having twins. FM: What are you favorite go-green mama essentials that youʼ’d die without?M:M: Coconut oil for diaper cream, avocado oil for massages after baths, geranium oil for calming, lavender oil for sleep, and Parvati roll on fragrance (for myself). It is very important though that if you are going to use essential oil on a baby they must be at least six months old and it must be a teeny, tiny amount mixed intointo a big thing of avocado oil. Also, you must check with your doctor first and do a sample test on their skin to make sure it’s not irritating them.

FM: What are some of you and Sunnyʼ’s favorite things to do together?M: Dance, massages, shopping, and wrap her in my big Chloe poncho while she’s in a pouch and go to the farmers market.FM: What are you favorite places to shop for Sunny?M: M: Sweet William and the health food store.FM: Your favorite places to shop?M: Ebay, ebay, ebay! FM: What are your favorite eco-friendly Foxy Mama prod-ucts?M: A non-toxic sheep skin for her crib, a cloth ringsling, and a Ryan Roche cashmere blanket. FM: What advice would you give a soon to be or new mom?M: Don’t listen to anyone. other moms are insane know-it-all alarmist freaks. Trust your instincts, you were built to do this.

Most cleansing products that you buy strip the oil out of our skin, and each time your strip the oil away, our skin over-compensates for the lack of moisture by creating more oil. Not only do these products dry your oil, but they are highly-scented, even the “unscented” products usually still contain some kind of fragrance. Fragrance is one of the top skin irritants. It turns out, oil dissolves oil, so the oil in the cleanser attaches to the oil and dirt in your skin and removes it without stripping your skin of the oils it needs to be gorgeous. In the end, your skin won’t dry out or need to proneeds to be gorgeous. In the end, your skin won’t dry out or need to pro-duce extra oils and it will be more balanced. Although the word oil sounds weird when thinking about cleansing your face, but it actually makes sense once you learn about it. In turns out that oil dissolves oil, so the oil in the cleanser attatches to the oil and dirt in your skin and removes it without stripping your skin of the oils it needs to be supple and glowing. In the end your skin will be balanced and won’t need to produce extra oil because it has just the amount of oil it needs.

Page 39: FOXY MAMA

What You Need: - The most common oils used is Castor Oil, though any natural oil can be used. Castor oil is naturally astringent, so it helps pull impurities from the skin. Hazelnut oil also works wonder-fully in its place. Since Castor Oil is so thick and its cleansing properties are so strong it needs to be diluted with another oil that is thinner. Sunflower Seed Oil is perfect for this.-A soft washcloth.

How To:- In the shower or at your bathroom sink, pour a quarter size amount of the oil blend into your hand (do not wet your skin) and and massage into the skin in smooth, circular stokes. Massage for at least a minute to two minutes or until you feel that the oil has saturated your skin. You can even leave it on the skin for up to 10 minutes to deep clean pores.-- Soak a soft washcloth under hot water and quickly wring it out. Place the entire cloth over your face to create steam against the skin to remove the oils and impurities. Leave on for about a minute or until it cools. - Use the corners of the washcloth to gently remove any remaining oil. - If your skin feels tight, use a tiny drop of your oil blend and rub it between your damp palms and pat onto your damp skin. Massage any oil residue into your skin so there is no film of oil left sitting on the surface.

Typically, it can take a week or two for the skin to adjust to this change and you may experience some oily skin or breakouts during this time as the impurities leave the skin. This is a GOOD sign! You will likely have to experiement to find a perfect ratio of oils for your particular skin. Here is a start:

-Oily Skin: 1/3 Castor Oil or Hazelnut Oil and 2/3 Olive, Sunflower or other -Combination Skin: 1/4 Castor or Hazelnut Oil and 3/4 Olive, Sunflower or other -Dry Skin: All nourishing and natural oils like olive, or a small amount of

Castor/Hazelnut added to the other oils.

People today are often wondering what the ‘real’ benefits of purchasing organic food is over buying conventional foods which tend to be a lot cheaper. Some studies have claimed that organic produce doesn’t have more health benefits then generic produce, but these studies have also been found to be extremely flawed. Some generalized trends have been observed and the outcome shows that organic produce contains higher levels of Vita-min C, lower levels of nitrates, and contain fewer and lower levels of pesticides, in compari-son to conventional produce.

Page 49: FOXY MAMA

4. Soybeans contain one of the highe highest levels of pesticide contamina-tion of all foods. More than 80% of soy

plants grown in the United States are genetical-ly modified organisms (GMOs) which are

grown in GM farms that use toxic pesticides. To avoid foods with pesticides and GM, avoid soy oil, lecithin, soy protein isolates and concen

trates, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, textured vegetable protein, or unidentified vegetable

oils.

1. Consuming organic products may lower childrenʼ’s exposure to

potentially damaging pesticides. A study published in Environmental Health Perspectives invol- ved researchers that recruited families at a retail chain

grocery store mainly selling conventional foods & families at a localgrocery store selling a large variety of organic at a localgrocery store selling a large variety of organic

foods. Parents were asked to keep a food diary for their chi dren for three days and to collect a sample of their children’s urine to analyze for pesticide metabolites. The Children that

were eating organic diets had significantly lower levels organophosphorus (OP) pesticide metabolite concentrations

compared to the children eating conventional diets. Concentrations of one OP metabolite group were Concentrations of one OP metabolite group were approximately six times higher for the children

cides, pesticides, and fungicides,

both in its growing stages and during storage. Wheat is one of the world’s

most important crops. Organic products as well as organic produce as well as organic produce

is important.

Rub toothpaste or baking soda/water paste into the sting. The pain should subside within minutes.

For adults, use pure peppermint essential oil and for babies and children use diluted pepper-

mint essential oil. Rub on the bottom of the feet and the back of the neck. A cool ice pack

on the back of the neck will also help.

Peppermint tea or Ginger tea are the keys for these problems, as well as their essential oils. For children with motion sickness or nausea, mix a few drops of peppermint essential oil with a tablespoon of almond or olive oil and rub on the feet, chest, and back of the neck.

TEXT BY ADRIENNE FISHER

Dr. Bronner’s has been available for decades and it is nothing but amazing. The soap is made from vegetable and hemp oils, organic and natural, biodegradable, and has no animal fats. Dr Bronner’s is a long time favorite of tree huggers and budget conscious buyers, but it is now finding itself being used by all eco-conscious consumers. Kodak Pulse 10" Digital Photo

Frame

Moms and photos go hand in hand. And at this point, we're all taking far too many of them to ever print, not to mention the waste of paper and toxic

chemicals used to make the toner. We here at Foxy have found a greener way to show off our families and all it takes is to just load the most memorable shots into a Kodak

Pulse digital photo frame. And if the idea of using memory cards makes you cringe they can also be loaded via the Web or by

e-mailing pictures directly from any smart phone.
