FOX AND WILD DOG BAIT COLLECTION AUTUMN AND SPRING 2020

  • “I don’t have livestock - why should I do pest control?”

The economic impact of pest animals is estimated to be $170

million in NSW. This affects all landholders, including croppers. Pests cause significant damage

to crops, pastures, trees, natural landscapes and native animals.

    “What are my legal responsibilities?”

All land managers have a General Biosecurity Duty under the NSW Biosecurity

Act 2015. This duty requires that anyone who knows or ought to reasonably know

about a biosecurity risk has a duty to prevent, eliminate or minimise that risk as

far as reasonably practicable. It is important to note, as a land manager you also have

    biosecurity obligations to your neighbours.

Riverina land managers should refer to the Meeting your General Biosecurity Duty guide

(available in your local office or at www.lls.nsw.gov.au/riverina)

  • WHAT SUPPORT IS ON OFFER TO LAND MANAGERS? • Free vertebrate pesticide training • The first 30 meat baits you order are FREE• Tailored advice from a local Biosecurity Officer • Up to date information and support from Riverina Local Land Services HOW DO I GET INVOLVED? • Fox baiting not only protects valuable livestock but also many vulnerable native species. Contained in this

booklet are local pick up points to ensure a large scale coordinated program at the opportune baiting times of Autumn and Spring. You must call the Biosecurity Officer listed for your chosen location at least three days beforehand. They will step you through what you need to know about bait collection

    • On the day it’s vital you have a safe way of transporting your baits home - they can’t be in the vicinity of children, animals or foodstuff. Many landholders lock them in a toolbox on the tray of the ute

    • You also need to bring your current certification card (see below) WHAT TRAINING DO I NEED?

    • We run a short training course regularly which allow you to use 1080 and Pindone baits on your property. The three-hour course gives you a clear understanding of how to use it, and your legal obligations

    • The training courses cover topics such as baiting techniques, toxicity, storage, transport, legislation and Work Health and Safety. Those completing the course will be issued a certification card and will remain accredited to use 1080 and Pindone for five years. No fee is charged to ratepayers

    • Upcoming courses are listed in this booklet under each location. Landholders are encouraged to contact their local Biosecurity Officer if they can’t make these dates / need training at any stage throughout the year

Invasive species have no place in our landscape. The ability and responsiblity to manage pest animals rest with every land manager. Local landholders should work together in groups to bait and control pest animals simultaneously to

cover a wider area, which results in a better knockdown

Contact your local Biosecurity Officer to discuss your situation and pest management needs

Order your baits - all baits must be ordered a minimum of three days before collection. You must also notify your neighbours three days

    before laying baits

Pick up your baits from a local collection point or your closest Local Land Services office - your first 30 meat baits are free!

Lay your baits when you get home - and try to coordinate this timing with your neighbours for maximum knockdown

  • All baits must be ordered a minimum of 3 days prior to the collection date. Contact the Biosecurity Officer listed next to your chosen location to order.

Can’t make your local pick up date? Give your Biosecurity Officer a call - you can order your baits and collect them from your closest Local Land Services office
