Site: St. Andrew’s PCEA Church, Nairobi
Task: Design an ICT-Integrated Primary School
TThe Government of Kenya is investing in ICT-integrated education to lay a proper
foundation for socio-economic development by providing each primary school
child with a laptop right from Standard One. This will greatly facilitate primary
school learners to develop 21st
Century skills and become globally competitive. A
computer literate labourer will be a great benefit to the nation.
It was therefore our job to correctly interpret the spatial requirements and
implement the ICT programme in the proposed St. Andrew’s PCEA Primary school

The design of the school called for a flexible and dynamic classroom design that allows
the pupils to properly engage with their fellow classmates as well as their own teachers.
It also called for a proper classroom design that allows the use of individual laptops
with each pupil therefore, design of an ideal workstation was absolutely necessary.
On top of all this. the design of proper accessible design was absolutely paramount for
the disabled pupils and considering an elevator may be expensive for the school, a
comfortable ramp of 1:12 was needed for this which can be seen within the design.

Site: St. Andrew’s PCEA Church, NairobiTask: Create a Well-Landscaped Environment for the Entire SiteTThis studio project is located on the St. Andrew PCEA Church site. Casual observations of most of developments within the site were found not to have given due considerations to landscaping design. Arising from this the management of St. Andrew’s church has engaged our services to undertake the landscaping design of the site to define outdoor spaces for recreation, learning, parking and vehicular/pedestrian movements.
TThis project is expected to respond to the site context which includes the vegetation, topography and the existing heritage buildings.

Site: UNES Headquarters, NairobiTask: Redesign the Entire Block for Sufficient Work Space
This project was prompted by the desire of the UNES company management to continuously put in place modalities that will ensure that the work environment meets and exceeds the minimum set benchmarks in order to continually offer excellent service to both internal and external customers.
OfficeOffice workers prefer a quantity and quality of workspace suitable for their personal space and comfort, productivity, job demands and safety. Under regulation 3.14 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996, employers are required to provide each employee with sufficient space in which to work without risk to the employee’s safety and health.

Site: Seafront Promenade, Lamu IslandTask: Design a Tourist Terminal and Information Centre
Kenya is well known as a Tourist destination. Kenyans are hospitable and the services they offer are efficient and varied. In addition, Lamu Town has estab-lished itself as a truly tourist centre that could be used for displaying our cultural art, drama, music and natural endowment.
In view of this, the Lamu County Council, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, want to develop a tourist terminal/information centre here at Lamu town. This will act as a hub for tourists in the coastal region. In addition, the centre attempts to embody the aspirations and pride of the Swahili people to both the overseas and local tourists.

With the understanding that Lamu Island is of a completely different cultural background as well as different climatic conditions from the rest of the country, due considerations will have to be taken within all these special aspects to design a centre that is both functional and relates to its specific environment.
TTherefore, the objective of this project was to demonstrate the understanding of how to design environmentally friendly buildings within the warm, humid climate where design development effectively takes care of thermal control as well as cooling effects as while taking the guiding parameters to be conservation of urban space and its heritage.
