Psalm — The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want (Psalm 23). Second Reading — You who were once darkness are now light in the Lord. Live as children of light (Ephesians 5:8-14). Gospel — The man who was blind from birth proclaimed: The one called Jesus made clay with his saliva, anointed my eyes with it, and told me to wash. When I washed, I was able to see! All rights reserved. Notes from Fr. John T oday, we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Lent. This week we are presented with the man born blind. The first reading from the Book of Samuel and the gospel story call into question blindness, and how we gain our sight back. Samuel is looking to anoint the next king of Israel. He comes to Jesse and asks to see his oldest son so he can anoint him. It turns out that God doesn’t choose the eldest son and in fact picks the youngest. Samuel’s vision was different then God’s. In the Gospel, the man born blind believes in Jesus and is cured, but the Pharisees do not and remain in their personal blindness. How are we blind? Do we see others as God sees them? Do we see ourselves as God see us? Our faith calls us to turn from our sin and open our eyes. When we do, we will stumble fewer times. Lent is quickly passing by, and Easter is approaching. How are you doing with Lenten practices or disciplines? Remember that there are many events and activities in the upcoming weeks, and they all serve as great opportunities for fellowship and reflection. Don’t forget to join us for evening prayer on Thursdays at 7:00 PM. Stations of the Cross are held on Friday’s at 7:00PM at St. Kieran or 2:00 PM at St. Agnes with the school children. On Friday, April 7th, we will have Living Stations here at St. Kieran. Please join us for this celebration. The St. Kieran Women’s Club will be hosting an afternoon retreat on Sunday April 2nd from 1:00- 2:30 PM. The focus will be on “Spiritual Spring Cleaning.” Please check this bulletin for more information. The choirs of St. Agnes, St. Kieran, and St. Irenaeus are coming together for a Palm Sunday Concert. It will be held April 9th at 2PM at St. Irenaeus Church. Join us for uplifting music as we approach Easter season! On Holy Saturday, April 15, St. Kieran will be hosting an event to make Easter baskets. The event is geared towards children who wish to bring cheer into the life of a loved one, a friend, or someone who needs a hug. Remember to bring your own Easter baskets for a blessing. Please join us in any of these events to bring in the Easter season with faithful hearts and joyful spirits. T oday, we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Lent. This week we are presented with the man born blind. The first reading from the Book of Samuel and the gospel story call

March 25: The International

Day, of the Unborn Child

The International Day of the Unborn Child will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25, on the Feast of the Annunciation. Our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, linked the association of this day to the Annunciation as a means to honor Our Blessed Mother, who, by the power of the Holy Spirit, conceived our Lord on this day. This day was first officially celebrated in 1999 in Argentina, and has remained (1) a celebration of the value and dignity of every human person from the moment of conception and (2) a day of remembrance of the unborn children who have been victims of abortion. This day is not an exclusively Catholic or Christian event. All pro-life groups have been welcomed and encouraged to participate in local events or form their own events to celebrate human life. Many churches, pro-life groups, and schools observe this day by prayer (Rosary, Masses, Holy Hours, etc.), by spiritually adopting unborn children, and by processions or prayerful marches. To observe this event in the local community, the Knights of Columbus will host a Rosary Rally after the 10 AM Mass on Sunday, March 26. The Rosary will be dedicated to the Unborn Children—for their welfare and remembrance of the lost. Please join the Knights of Columbus for this special prayer.

Think PINK April meetings bring… Breast Cancer Awareness

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

7:00 pm at the Library Meeting Room Approximately 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. At April’s St. Kieran Women’s Club meeting, we will host a group of nursing students from Purdue University Northwest who will present on Breast Cancer Prevention: How to prevent it, what are the symptoms & interventions, and how to perform the self assessment. So, dress in pink and enjoy some wine, cheese, and fun pink treats while we become informed about this serious disease. After the presentation, we’ll make a Breast Cancer awareness pin to take home. Please help us show support for those who have fought this disease and to our guest speakers.
