San Blas—3 de Febrero Al principio ejercía la medicina, y aprovechaba de la gran influencia que le daba su calidad de excelente médico, para hablarles a sus pacientes en favor de Jesucristo y de su santa religión, y conseguir así muchos adeptos para el cristia-nismo. Al conocer su gran santidad, el pueblo lo eligió obis-po. Cuando estalló la persecución de Diocleciano, se fue San Blas a esconderse en una cueva de la montaña, y desde allí dirigía y animaba a los cristianos perseguidos y por la noche bajaba a escondidas a la ciudad a ayudarles y a socorrer y con-solar a los que estaban en las cárceles, y a llevarles la Sagrada Eucaristía. Cuenta la tradición que a la cueva donde estaba es-condido el santo, llegaban las fieras heridas o enfermas y él las curaba. Y que estos animales venían en gran cantidad a visitar-lo cariñosamente. Pero un día él vio que por la cuesta arriba llegaban los cazadores del gobierno y entonces espantó a las fieras y las alejó y así las libró de ser víctimas de la cacería. Entonces los cazadores, en venganza, se lo llevaron preso. Su llegada a la ciudad fue una verdadera apoteosis, o paseo triun-fal, pues todas las gentes, aun las que no pertenecían a nuestra religión, salieron a aclamarlo como un verdadero santo y un gran benefactor y amigo de todos. El gobernador le ofreció muchos regalos y ventajas temporales si dejaba la religión de Jesucristo y si se pasaba a la religión pagana, pero San Blas proclamó que él sería amigo de Jesús y de su santa religión hasta el último momento de su vida. Entonces fue apaleado brutalmente y le desgarraron con garfios su espalda. Pero durante todo este feroz martirio, el santo no profirió ni una sola queja. El rezaba por sus verdugos y para que todos los cristianos perseveraran en la fe. El gobernador, al ver que el santo no dejaba de pro-clamar su fe en Dios, decretó que le cortaran la cabeza. Y cuando lo llevaban hacia el sitio de su martirio iba bendiciendo

IV Domingo Ordinario Lc 4, 21-30

En aquel tiempo, después de que Jesús leyó en la sinagoga un pasaje del libro de Isaías, dijo: “Hoy mismo se ha cumplido este pasaje de la Escritura que acaban de oír”. Todos le daban su aprobación y admiraban la sabiduría de las palabras que salían de sus labios, y se preguntaban: “¿No es éste el hijo de José?” Jesús les dijo: “Seguramente me dirán aquel refrán: ‘Médico, cúrate a ti mismo’ y haz aquí, en tu propia tierra, todos esos prodigios que hemos oído que has hecho en Ca-farnaúm”. Y añadió: “Yo les aseguro que nadie es profeta en su tierra. Había ciertamente en Israel muchas viudas en los tiempos de Elías, cuando faltó la lluvia durante tres años y medio, y hubo un hambre terrible en todo el país; sin em-bargo, a ninguna de ellas fue enviado Elías, sino a una viu-da que vivía en Sarepta, ciudad de Sidón. Había muchos leprosos en Israel, en tiempos del profeta Eliseo; sin embar-go, ninguno de ellos fue curado, sino Naamán, que era de Siria”. Al oír esto, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se llenaron de ira, y levantándose, lo sacaron de la ciudad y lo llevaron hasta una saliente del monte, sobre el que estaba construida la ciudad, para despeñarlo. Pero él, pasando por en medio de ellos, se alejó de allí.

por el camino a la inmensa multitud que lo miraba llena de admiración y su bendición obtenía la curación de muchos. Pero hubo una curación que entusiasmó mucho a to-dos. Una pobre mujer tenía a su hijito agonizando porque se le había atravesado una espina de pescado en la garganta. Corrió hacia un sitio por donde debía pasar el santo. Se arrodilló y le presentó al enfermito que se ahogaba. San Blas le colocó sus manos sobre la cabeza al niño y rezó por él. Inmediatamente la espina desapareció y el niñito recobró su salud. El pueblo lo aclamó entusiasmado. Le cortaron la cabeza (era el año 316). Y después de su muerte empezó a obtener muchos milagros de Dios en fa-vor de los que le rezaban. Se hizo tan popular que en sólo Ita-lia llegó a tener 35 templos dedicados a él. Su país, Armenia, se hizo cristiano pocos años después de su martirio. En la Edad Antigua era invocado como Patrono de los cazado-res, y las gentes le tenían gran fe como eficaz protector contra las enfermedades de la garganta. El 3 de febrero bendecían dos velas en honor de San Blas y las colocaban en la garganta de las personas diciendo: "Por intercesión de San Blas, te libre Dios de los males de garganta". Cuando los niños se enferma-ban de la garganta, las mamás repetían: "San Blas bendito, que se ahoga el angelito". A San Blas, tan amable y generoso, pidámosle que nos consi-ga de Dios la curación de las enfermedades corporales de la garganta, pero sobre todo que nos cure de aquella enfermedad espiritual de la garganta que consiste en hablar de todo lo que no se debe de hablar y en sentir miedo de hablar de nuestra santa religión y de nuestro amable Redentor, Jesucristo.

Pisma, któreście słyszeli. A wszyscy przyświadczali Mu i dziwili się pełnym wdzięku słowom, które płynęły z ust Jego. I mówili: Czy nie jest to syn Józefa? Wtedy rzekł do nich: Z pewnością powiecie Mi to przysłowie: Lekarzu, ulecz samego siebie; dokonajże i tu w swojej ojczyźnie tego, co wydarzyło się, jak słyszeliśmy, w Kafar-naum. I dodał: Zaprawdę, powiadam wam: żaden prorok nie jest mile widziany w swojej ojczyźnie. Naprawdę, mówię wam: Wiele wdów było w Izraelu za czasów Eliasza, kiedy niebo pozostawało zamknięte przez trzy lata i sześć miesięcy, tak że wielki głód pano-wał w całym kraju; a Eliasz do żadnej z nich nie został posłany, tylko do owej wdowy w Sarepcie Sydońskiej. I wielu trędowatych było w Izraelu za proroka Elizeusza, a żaden z nich nie został oczyszczony, tylko Syryjczyk Naaman. Na te słowa wszyscy w synagodze unieśli się gniewem. Porwali Go z miejsca, wyrzucili Go z miasta i wyprowadzili aż na stok góry, na której ich miasto było zbudowane, aby Go strącić. On jednak przeszedłszy pośród nich oddalił się.

Święta Agata, dziewica i męczennica 5 lutego

Agata (etymologicznie: "dobra") zwana Sycylijską jest jedną z najbardziej czczo-nych w chrześcijaństwie świętych. Wia-domości o niej mamy przede wszystkim w aktach jej męczeństwa. W pierwszych wiekach chrześcijaństwa istniał bowiem zwyczaj, że sporządzano akta męczenni-ków; większość z nich nie doczekała do naszych czasów. Akta męczeństwa Agaty pochodzą dopiero z V wieku. Według opisu męczeństwa Agata urodziła się w Katanii na Sycylii ok. 235 r. Po przyjęciu chrztu postanowiła poświęcić się Chrystusowi i żyć w dziewictwie. Jej wyjątkowa uroda zwróciła uwagę Kwincjana, namiestnika Sycylii. Zapropono-wał jej małżeństwo. Agata odmówiła, wzbudzając w odrzuco-nym senatorze nienawiść i pragnienie zemsty. Trwały wówczas prześladowania chrześcijan, zarządzone przez cesarza Decju-sza. Kwincjan aresztował Agatę. Próbował ją zniesławić przez pozbawienie jej dziewiczej niewinności, dlatego oddał ją pod opiekę pewnej rozpustnej kobiety, imieniem Afrodyssa. Kiedy te zabiegi spełzły na niczym, namiestnik skazał Agatę na tortu-ry, podczas których odcięto jej piersi. W tym czasie miasto nawiedziło trzęsienie ziemi, w którym zginęło wielu pogan. Przerażony namiestnik nakazał zaprzestać mąk, gdyż dostrzegł w tym karę Bożą. Ostatecznie Agata poniosła śmierć, rzucona na rozżarzone węgle, 5 lutego 251 r. Jej ciało chrześcijanie złożyli w bezpiecznym miejscu poza miastem. Papież Symmachus (+ 514) wystawił ku jej czci w

Rzymie przy Via Aurelia okazałą bazylikę. Kolejną świątynię w Rzymie poświęcił jej św. Grzegorz Wielki w roku 593. Wreszcie papież Grzegorz II (+ 731) przy bazylice św. Chryzo-gona na Zatybrzu wystawił ku jej czci trzeci rzymski kościół. Dowodzi to wielkiej czci, jaką otaczano ją w owych czasach. Obecnie ciało Agaty znajduje się w katedrze w Katanii. Wiel-kiej czci doznają jej relikwie, m.in. welon, dzięki któremu, jak niesie podanie, Katania niejeden raz miała doznać ocalenia. W dzień św. Agaty w niektórych okolicach poświęca się pie-czywo, sól i wodę, które mają chronić ludność od pożarów i piorunów. Poświęcone kawałki chleba wrzucano do ognia, by wiatr odwrócił pożar w kierunku przeciwnym. W dniu jej pa-mięci karmiono bydło poświęconą solą i chlebem, by je uchro-nić od zarazy. Św. Agata jest patronką Sycylii, miasta Katanii oraz ludwisarzy. Wzywana przez kobiety karmiące oraz w cho-robach piersi. W ikonografii św. Agata przedstawiana jest w długiej sukni, z kleszczami, którymi ją szarpano. Atrybutami są: chleb, dom w płomieniach, korona w rękach, kość słoniowa - symbol czysto-ści i niewinności oraz siły moralnej, palma męczeńska, obcięte piersi na misie, pochodnia, płonąca świeca - symbol Chrystusa.

Ogłoszenia Parafialne 03 lutego 2019 r.

Święci męczennicy Paweł Miki i Towarzysze - 6 lutego Na początku XVI wieku chrześcijaństwo w Japonii rozwijało się bardzo dynamicznie. Pierwszym misjonarzem w tym kraju był św. Franciszek Ksawery w latach 1549-1551. Niestety, pięknie zapo-wiadające się dzieło zostało prędko zatrzymane przez fanatyzm władców. Wybuchło nagłe, bardzo krwawe prześladowanie. Na te właśnie czasy przypada bohaterska śmierć św. Pawła Miki i jego 25 Towarzyszy. Wśród tych męczenników było 3 jezuitów, 6 fran-ciszkanów i 17 tercjarzy franciszkańskich. Paweł Miki urodził się koło Kioto w zamożnej rodzinie w roku 1565. Miał zaledwie 5 lat, kiedy otrzymał chrzest - w Japonii w XVI w. zdarzało się to niezwykle rzadko. Kształcił się u jezuitów, do któ-rych w wieku 22 lat wstąpił. Będąc klerykiem, pomagał misjona-rzom jako katechista. Po nowicjacie i studiach przemierzył niemal całą Japonię, głosząc naukę Chrystusa. Kiedy miał już otrzymać święcenia kapłańskie, w 1597 r. wybuchło prześladowanie. Aresz-towano go i poddano torturom, aby wyrzekł się wiary. W więzieniu spotkał się z 23 Towarzyszami. Po torturach obwożono ich po mieście z wypisanym wyrokiem śmierci. Paweł wykorzystał okazję, by zebranym tłumom głosić Chrystusa. Więźniów umieszczono w więzieniu w pobliżu miasta Nagasaki. Dołączono do nich jeszcze dwóch chrześcijan, których aresztowano za to, że usiłowali nieść pomoc więźniom. Na naleganie prowincjała władze zgodziły się dopuścić do skazanych kapłana z sakramentami. Tę okazję wyko-rzystali dwaj nowicjusze, by na jego ręce złożyć śluby zakonne. Poza miastem ustawiono 26 krzyży, na których zawieszono aresz-towanych chrześcijan. Paweł Miki jeszcze z krzyża głosił zebra-nym poganom Chrystusa, dając wyraz swojej radości z tego, że ginie tak zaszczytną dla siebie śmiercią. Zachęcał do wytrwania także swoich Towarzyszy. Męczennicy przeszyci lancami żołnierzy dopełnili swej ofiary 5 lutego 1597 r. Są to pierwsi męczennicy Dalekiego Wschodu. Do chwały błogosławionych wyniósł ich Urban VIII w roku 1627, a do chwały świętych - Pius IX w roku 1862. Ten sam papież doprowadził ponadto do beatyfikacji kolej-nych 205 męczenników japońskich, którzy ponieśli śmierć w wieku XVII.

Saint Blaise Feast Day February 3

If you are already familiar with St. Blaise, it is probably because of the blessing of throats—a Catholic custom on his feast. According to tradition, Blaise had been a doctor before he was ordained a priest. He became the bishop of Sebaste (now in central Turkey). During a period of persecu-tion, he fled to a cave where he lived as a hermit. It is said that he cured and tamed the wild ani-mals there. One day hunters discovered him and took him to the governor, who sentenced him to be tortured and killed. About four hundred years after his death, many stories began to be told about Blaise, and he became a popular saint, especially in France and Germany. One leg-end says that while Blaise was in prison, a mother brought him her small boy, who was choking on a fishbone stuck in his throat. Blaise prayed over the child, and he was healed. Every year on St. Blaise’s feast, two candles tied with ribbon in the shape of an X are used to bless throats. In the prayer the Church prays that those blessed may be delivered from diseases of the throat and from every other illness. Candles are used because of another story: It is said that while Blaise was kept in a dark prison, a woman secretly brought him some candles and food. Blaise is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, saints who were patrons for almost every aspect of life. People in the Middle Ages showed devotion to these saints as a group. from Saints Kit

After Jesus' words of challenge, Luke reports that there was a movement to kill Jesus by throwing him over a cliff. This differs from the reports found in Mark and Matthew's Gospels, where Jesus is said to be unable to perform miracles in Nazareth because of the people's lack of faith. Luke says that Jesus walks away from the crowd that intended to kill him; it is not yet his time. The animosity of the people of Nazareth pre-figures and prepares the reader of Luke's Gospel for the cross. Luke wants all to understand that it is through his death on the cross that Jesus offers God's salvation to all.

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Luke 4:21-30

Jesus is rejected in his hometown of Nazareth. Background on the Gospel Reading This Sunday we read

from the Gospel of Luke, continuing immediately from last week's Gospel. Recall that in last Sunday's Gospel, Jesus read from the prophet Isaiah and announced that this Scripture was now fulfilled. In today's Gospel, we learn that the people of Nazareth are impressed by Je-sus' words, and yet they seem surprised. They still think of Jesus as merely Joseph's son. They do not expect such words from someone they believe that they know. This Gospel is about who Jesus is and who peo-ple believe him to be. The story of Jesus' preaching and rejection at Nazareth is found in each of the Synoptic Gospels. In Luke's Gospel, this incident is told in a way that foretells Jesus' passion and death and helps explain the inclusion of the Gentiles in the promise of salva-tion. In Luke's Gospel this incident appears at the be-ginning of Jesus' ministry; in Matthew and Mark, this event is placed considerably later, after Jesus has preached and taught elsewhere. Only Luke identifies the content of Jesus' teaching in any detail, telling us that Jesus read from the book of the prophet Isaiah in the synagogue. In Mark and Matthew's Gospels, Jesus teaches in the synagogue in Nazareth, and the towns-people take offense because Jesus is only the son of a carpenter. They reject his authority to teach them. In Matthew and Mark, it is only after Jesus is rejected that he observes times when Israel has rejected prophets. In Luke's Gospel, the people are surprised but not immediately offended by Jesus' words in the syna-gogue. It is the words that follow his reading from the prophet Isaiah that seem to offend them. Jesus chal-lenges and provokes the people of Nazareth by refer-ring to examples in which Israel rejected the prophets. He also challenges them to respond to his message, the message of a prophet, in a way that is different from their ancestors. This call for a new response leads to his rejection. It is helpful to consider the historical context of Luke's Gospel. Luke has witnessed the acceptance of the gospel message among many Gentiles. He endeav-ors to explain why the Good News of Jesus has not been as well-received by his Jewish contemporaries. Luke's report interprets the cause of Jesus' rejection at Nazareth in the context of this later Christian history. Just as the people at Nazareth did not welcome the Good News that Jesus announced, so too many among the people of Israel will not accept the preaching of the gospel.
