† GATHERING TOGETHER TO PRAISE GOD †MOMENT FOR REFLECTION

This morning we reflect on the relationship which binds us together, and makes of us a congregation. It is called a covenant. A mutual pledge to walk with one another, and to be with and supportive of one another, come what may. In Congregational tradition, the formation of a covenant is the mutual decision of free people to bind themselves in relationships of caring and concern, to learn together, to discern to-gether, to work together for the common good. Covenant is an ancient word, but it has ever-new applications, as the people of God choose to be together, through thick and thin, with one another, no matter what. Just as God covenants with us to be our God, and we to be God’s people, so we covenant with one another, to be with and for and beside one another.

Read it carefully, remembering that our worship services are televised and live-streamed over the internet. Pass the card to the center aisle nearest you during the singing of the Opening Hymn. THE HEBREW BIBLE READING . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Acts 2:43-47

Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

If so, please plan to join Paul and Barbara for a training session, after worship on Sunday, February 4 at 11:15 a.m. in the Pearson Room.

We’ll learn what makes for a powerful testimony, what is appropriate to share and what is best left private, and then work together to shape your

testimony. If you have questions, contact either Paul or Barbara. If you think you are ready, or if you’d like to learn more, please join us.

russell school updaTes: January sTories From principal Tamara blake-canTy

A fifth grade teacher noticed one student with shoes that were at least 2 sizes too small. A pair of used winter boots donated by a Hancock family was a much better fit. When the teacher asked “What should we do with the too small shoes?” The student replied, “I should take them home for my little sister, so she can have shoes that fit.”

One homeless family moved into an apartment in early January. Another family is supposed to get into an apartment in February. This second family has a first grader. They have lived in a shelter for 4 years—or over half of the life of the first grader. The teachers at the school helped the

first family furnish their apartment. Tamara has asked if Hancock can help the second family. More on that below.

White boards donated 18 months ago, from the office of a Hancock member, are being put to good use. A few are in classrooms or being used by specialists. The others have been installed in the main hallways and will soon be full of magnetic STEM learning tools. Students will soon be building marble runs, gear boxes, and building things in small groups and learning engineering skills in the process.

In addition, the homeless families at the Russell School were incredibly grateful for the gift cards sent from Hancock in December.

How you can help now:

1. Donate children’s clean, gently used winter clothing—please nothing stained, torn, or dirty. A donation box is outside the dining room.

2. Donate used furniture and kitchen wares to help the homeless family moving in February. Please call Carol Bukys at (781) 674-0339 to donate. A complete list will be available soon. I will arrange to pick up needed items.

3. Continue to donate gently used books, games, and office supplies. These can be left outside the dining room. If you have a large donation, please call Carol for pick-up.
