Ways to show appreciation & be grateful

1) Write a thank you note. Taking the time to write a personal thank you note goes along way to show someone you care and are thankful for all they do.

2) Keep a gratitude journal. Write down one thing every day that you are thankful for. It doesn’t have to be a big thing. The checker at Safeway was very helpful. The person at the store smiled and said hello. I saw a cute bird in my yard.

GRATATUDE is ATTITUDE 3) Make something for someone. Some cookies, a card or knitting a scarf, build a bird house. It

doesn’t need to be a big thing it

can be a simple thing. 4) Give a hug. It is always nice to give a hug. 5) Give a sincere compliment. I love the color of your jacket. You have a nice smile. 6) Stop complaining. Complaining is a not showing you are grateful.

7) Stay in the present. Sounds easier than it is but if you focus on the conversation your having or the task your doing without dwelling on the past conversation or the way the task went last time it makes it easier to focus on what is going right and keeps you in the moment.

8) Look outside and think about what an amazing place we live. The beautiful trees, the beaches the mountains. Take 5 minutes (doesn’t have to be an hour) and look out your window or sit in your

yard and take 2-3 deep breaths and look around. We live in an amazing place with amazing birds and trees to be grateful for.

DID YOU KNOW?

It is a proven fact that people who volunteer are happier when compared with people who

never volunteer. The odds of being “very hap-py” rose 7% among those who volunteer

monthly and 12% for people who volunteer every two to four weeks. Among weekly vol-unteers, 16% felt very happy—a hike in hap-

piness comparable to having an income of $75,000–$100,000 versus $20,000 say re-

searchers at Harvard. Wonderful

7 Smoothie Tips to stay Heathy by dietitian nutritionist Mckel Hill

www.nutritionstripped.com

NO. 01

Fresh is best, but frozen is just as great! Only have access to frozen strawberries in the dead of

winter? No worries, frozen fruit is not only more accessible, but oftentimes also more affordable and

super convenient. PLUS they instantly makes your smoothies cold. TIP: Stock your freezer with a

variety of frozen fruit including berries, tropical fruits, etc. Make sure all the ingredients are simply

fruit and have nothing else like added sugar. Opt for organic when available.

NO. 02

Have fresh raw greens in the fridge and running out of time to use them that week? Take your dark

leafy greens or any other vegetable that you have in the fridge and wash, chop, and store in a large

freezer safe bag or airtight glass container to make your own frozen vegetables. Kale is one that I will

often freeze, and it’s an easy way to add more fiber and greens to any smoothie. TIP: Find dark leafy

greens that are on sale and bulk freeze these for later.

NO. 03

Don’t waste it! Have a couple tablespoons of almond milk or coconut milk left over and don’t want to

throw it away? Don’t! Pour it into an ice cube tray to use as a flavor booster and instant smoothie

thickener. You can also do this with any liquid. I’ll typically have a tray for nut/seed milks like

almond or coconut milk, then one for extra tea and one for extra coffee. TIP: Use different ice cube

trays for different liquids, I’ve had too many experiences trying to get out a tea one and a coffee ice

cube popped up and the flavor was all…off. !

NO. 04

Plan ahead! Have an NS smoothie recipe you love and want to make sure you have it each morning

while saving time? Just like the concept of meal prep, you can evenly divide all ingredients out for

each day/each recipe into a Ziploc bag. Then all you do is literally grab the bag out of the freezer, put

the contents in the blender, add liquid, and blend! Breakfast in less than 5 minutes. TIP: Label each

baggie with the smoothie name so you know which it is, or just make the same recipe for the entire

week. You can also make extra in case you ever are in need of a “911” smoothie on the go.
