Fourth Annual Maycomb County Tea Party

    To Kill a Mockingbird

The good people of Maycomb County have decided to gather together and celebratetheir town heroes with their Annual Maycomb County Tea Party and YOU are invited! Likeany good citizen, you should be prepared with a few items so that you may impress your

neighbors and fully partake in the festivities. Have fun with this; you earned it!

You will select a character from To Kill a Mockingbird and will BECOME this personfor the tea party. You are expected to socialize with your neighbors as your MaycombCounty self. You are to discuss the recent events in your town and will provide a toast toyour neighbors celebrating Maybcombs heroes and expressing how you feel about being apart of this party.

As a good citizen of Maycomb, you are also expected to contribute to the party withfood, beverages, or utensils. There will be a sign up sheet for this.

Finally, Aunt Alexandra is also organizing a Maycomb County cookbook that will be

sold to help out Tom Robinsons wife Helen and her three young children. Every person inMaycomb needs to provide their favorite recipe for a Southern Style dish and include asolid paragraph (MEL-Con format) about why this is their favorite food.

    STEPS:

    1. Choose the character you will portray for the tea party. We will draw numbers todecide choosing order in class. You will dress, act, speak, and behave like this characterduring the party! You can earn extra credit for dressing up for the entire day andpromoting the book. You may earn additional extra credit by coming prepared with aPROP for your character. (Atticus=book)

    2. Research Southern Style recipes and select one that best fits with your character. Forexample, Scout loves crackling bread so she would probably look up that recipe toinclude it in the cookbook. Beyond just liking this food, she is like crackling bread in thatshe surprises you. Then she would need to write a decent paragraph explaining why thisrecipe is representative of her. The recipe and explanation should be typed neatly andready to be included in the cookbook. Please proof read carefully!
