What is the meaning of life? Some may say it is to maximize pleasure. Others money, or power. Today it seems the meaning of life is good health at all costs. Society is spending all its time, money and energy trying to find life. But a life without God is a vain search for happiness; a void of existence. In the Gospel last weekend, Jesus says “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” How do we lose our life for God? First by becoming disciples of Him and secondly by being apostles. A disciples is one who follows. An apostle is one who is sent with authority. Jesus was sent with authority by His heavenly Father to earth to call men to follow Him as disciples. From His disciples, He chose 12 men to be sent into the world as apostles to carry on His work until the end of time. So how do we become disciples and apostles? There are five elements that make up the reality of discipleship: 1. God calls and chooses us; 2. We have a response to that calling; 3. Our solitude with Jesus in a life of prayer; 4. Shared life of companionship with other disciples; 5. The mission to what He has called us to, being sent as apostles. In the Gospel, Jesus tells the Apostles they must leave their family, home and lose their life but they will be provided for by others. “Those who receive you, receive me.” I have left my desire to have a family so as to belong more to you. I am called to be a member of every family yet belonging to none. This is the great gift of celibacy. I desire to share life with you; to laugh, to cry and to pray together.

As your pastor, I have been ‘sent’ here to St. Peter to make disciples. I was not sent here to be a CEO, superintendent or to run meetings. God is calling me to get out of the ‘prison’ of my office and into your homes and into your lives, so that we may learn from each other and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to lead us to ‘lose our lives for the sake of Jesus Christ.’ I wish you and your loved ones a blessed 4th of July! In His Mercy, Fr. Clark Please call the parish office 402-423-1239 to schedule a meeting time with Fr. Clark at the parish or in your home.
