FOUNDING BENEFACTORS, THE VITERBI FAMILY FOUNDATIONErna and Andrew Viterbi and their family are strong supporters of the Jewish community and have an interest in all
facets of Jewish life. Their love for education has been demonstrated through the Viterbi Family Torah School of
Congregation Beth El and their support for the San Diego Jewish Academy. Andrew and Alan served as Presidents of
Congregation Beth El two decades apart. Alan is Past President of the Academy. Andrew is active with Technion—Israel
Institute of Technology—serving both as local ATS chapter chairman and as a Distinguished Visiting Professor on
campus. Caryn has been President of The Agency for Jewish Education, a Board Member of the Jewish Federation,
Treasurer of the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture, is the current President of the SDCJC and Co-chair of this year’s
Family Day. Erna is a Board Member of the Shoah Foundation Institute at USC, where the family has endowed the
Institute’s Archival Website. The family’s dedication to Jewish learning is further illustrated by a continuing commitment
to the San Diego Jewish Book Fair and to the endowment of a Chair in Mediterranean Jewish Studies at UCLA. They are
also involved in many other Jewish organizations including the UJF, Hadassah, Jewish Family Service, of which Audrey
and Valerie have been Board members, and the Jewish Community Foundation, of which Andrew is Past President. The

Wednesday evening Talk7:30 P.M. ..........Mosab Hassan Yousef, Son of Hamas: A Gripping Account
of Terror, Betrayal, Political Intrigue and Unthinkable ChoicesThis is a rare opportunity to meet the eldest son of the founder of Hamas,Mosab Hassan Yousef. Although born into terrorism, he is today a changed man.His conversion began after leaving prison in Israel—where he was jailed at age18—when he discovered the message of loving one’s enemies. With this in mind,he began working with Israel’s Shin Bet to prevent the kind of havoc he oncewreaked. They saved hundreds of lives on both sides while repeatedly risking theirown, and Yousef eventually found that hating hearts can change, while changedhearts can lead to peace and freedom in Palestine. Don’t miss this chance to meeta man whose spiritual autobiography is “more incendiary than any roadside IED”(GQ Magazine).

But, as was the case so often in his life, music made the difference, and kept himout of the trenches. He eventually landed in New York City where he began cementing hislegend. There is no one better to discuss the life of one of this Klezmer legend, other thanYale Strom, an accomplished musician (having released 13 Klezmer CDs), and masterstoryteller. Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamcoatDirected and Musical Direction by Jason ChaseFebruary 25–March 13, 2011
In this long-running musical, we see the story of Joseph, sonof Jacob. Patriarch Jacob lived happily with his dozen sons, but his favoritism for bright Joseph, symbolized by the giftof a spectacular multi-colored coat, makes his brothers sojealous they end up selling him into slavery and driven to Egypt.Though beset with adversity, Joseph perseveres through witand faith and becomes the governor of Egypt, second onlyto the Pharaoh. This all sets the scene for when he meets hisbrothers who have come to Egypt to purchase food. The Narrator draws a schoolaudience repeatedly into a very 21st century Technicolor production of the Biblicalstory. With such memorable songs such as Go, Go, Go, Joseph, Any Dream Will Doand the exciting Megamix ending will have you dancing in the aisles with excitement!
A Joyous New Musical For The Entire FamilyBased On The Garden Of Eden and Noah’s Ark.Directed by Joey LandwehrMay 13–22, 2011
From Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Pocahontas and Prince Of Egypt) andJohn Caird of Les Miserables comes a joyous and inspirational musical aboutparents, children and faith. Freely based on the story of Genesis, Children of Edenis a musical that rivals the spectacle of The Lion King with The Naming of theAnimals and of course welcoming the animals on the ark. This frank, heartfelt andoften humorous examination of the age-old conflict between parents and childrenwill keep you humming, singing and swaying in your seats. Adam, Eve, Noah andthe Father who created them deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of theirrespective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet, but inspiring messagethat “the hardest part of love... is letting go”—so true!
