    Instructions to the Teacher

This is the first lesson to go over with someone who has just made a

    profession of faith.

You should never be in a hurry but rather make super sure that they

    understand salvation.

Do not make all statements rather ask questions to see if they really do

    understand.

You must be sure first that they understood their need for salvation.

They must understand how to be saved.

In the following lessons we will go over more about what salvation means but

right now they need to be asked the questions and to be sure that they

know what it is that they have done.

    Understand your condition before salvation.

You were a sinner. (Romans 3:10-23)

There is not one righteous person.

    For all have sinned.

There is not a person that does not sin. (I Kings 8:46)

Every person has taken his own ________ rather than Gods way. (Romans3:12, Isaiah 53:6)

The Scripture concludes that all have sinned. (Galatians 3:22)

Sin is the transgression of the law. (I John 3:4)

Sin includes violating any of Gods rules, commandments or laws. (James

    2:9-10)

Are you certain that you sinned against a Holy God? Do you really

believe that you do not deserve to go to Heaven but should spend

    eternity in Hell?

    Sin carries a penalty.

Sin brought death to the entire human race. (Romans 5:12)

    7

The wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23)

These people will not inherit eternal life or go to Heaven. (I Corinthians 6:9-

    10, Revelation 21:8)

Sin separates man from God. (Isaiah 59:2)

God is angry because of sin.

    Wrath is coming. (Matthew 3:7)

Gods wrath abides over those that do not believe on the Son of God. (John

    3:36)

His wrath is against all ungodliness. (Romans 1:18)

The wrath of God is coming on all the children of disobedience. (Ephesians

    5:6)

Mankind is incapable of saving himself or paying for his sin. (Ephesians 2:8-

    9)

It is not by works of righteousness that we have done. (Titus 3:5)

There is only one way to God and that is through the person of Jesus Christ.

    (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)

Do you acknowledge that there was nothing you could do to save yourselves without what Jesus did for you on the cross?

    Jesus paid our sin debt.

He loved us while we were yet sinners. (Romans 5:8)

God the Father placed our sins on Jesus. (Isaiah 53:5-6)

He became the propitiation (full payment) for our sins.

    (I John 2:2)

Do you accept by faith that the only way you can have eternal life is by

a gift give to you by the grace of God?

    8

  • 8/8/2019 Foundations (Teacher Edition)

    9/42

We as believers placed our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and received the

    gift of eternal life.

We believed that He died for our sins paying our sin debt.

We believed from the heart and confessed with our mouth that Jesus is the

    Lord. (Romans 10:9-10)

Has there ever been a time that you repented of your sins, believed on Jesus

as your Lord and Saviour, and received the gift of eternal life?

iv. The unfinished task is to evangelize all individuals, to

proclaim the gospel to all peoples in all the geographical

regions of the world and to disciple them.- Avery T. Willis, Jr.

    c. The Great Commission

    i. Mark 16:15. We are to take the gospel to Every Creature.

remission of sins in His name) to All Nations. Nations refers to

people groups and not entire countries. We have the

Cherokee nation in the nation of the USA.

iii. Matthew 28:19-20. Teaching all nations.

    1. Since we already have the command to go to all nations

let us consider the words teach and teaching.

Which means (according to Websters Dictionary) to

show how to do something, to give instructions to, to

train, give lessons to (a student or pupil), to guide the

study of, to instruct, to hold classes in, to provide with

    knowledge, insight.

    2. Synonyms: impart, direct, instruct, informer, counsel,

    admonish, educate, inculcate, enlighten, advise,

    indoctrinate, and train.

    3. The word teach makes it clear that I must disciple ortrain all nations. It is not enough to get them to pray a

prayer. They must be taught enough to be saved, then

baptized, then trained to live the gospel. (Romans

    10:13-15)

    24

  • 8/8/2019 Foundations (Teacher Edition)

incarnation. This is becoming one of them to reach them inthe context of where they live and the language they speak.

    d. The Great Concern

    i. They are condemned already. (John 3:18)

    1. The Creation leaves them without excuse, because it

shows them that God does exist. (Romans 1:20)

    2. Their Conscience shows them that they need this God.

    (Romans 2:15)

    to all the world.

    i. Ezekiel 33:6. The blood of the uninformed is required at the

hand of the watchmen. Bloody Hands.

ii. Acts 20:26. Paul felt that responsibility because he said thathe was free from the blood of all men.

iii. I Corinthians 15:34. It is our shame if there is someone in the

New Testament Church Part 2I. What is a New Testament church?

    a. A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is

    i. a local body of baptized believers who are

ii. associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the

    gospel

iii. observing the two ordinances of Christ

iv. committed to His teachings, exercising the gifts, rights, and

privileges invested in them by His Word, and

    v. seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth.

vi. This church is an autonomous body, operating through

democratic processes under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

vii. In such a congregation members are equally responsible.

viii. Its Scriptural officers are pastors and deacons. (1 Timothy 3:1-13)

    b. According to Hebrews 10:25 the church is an assembly. We are not

to forsake the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of

    some is.

    c. A building is never a church. The New Testament church didnt

even have dedicated buildings for their meetings. We are actually

the temple of the Holy Spirit. (I Corinthians 6:19-20)

    d. The church is referred to as the body of Christ. (I Corinthians 12:27,

    12-13, 17-27)

    i. Each member (part) of the body of believers has a different

function - each ministering to each other's needs as a whole.

ii. No one member can function alone - we need each other!

When a Christian is not committed to others, especially to

other believers, then they are hindering Christs work in the

    world today.

iii. Each member's contribution is vitally important to the well-

being of the entire body of believers - we cant go it alone!

iv. A properly functioning body operates as a single unit - unified.

    e. Jesus is the Head of the church. (Ephesians 5:23)

II. How do you become a member of the church?

    a. You must be a born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ! (Acts

2:47, Colossians 1:1-2)b. To be a member you must be baptized in the name of the Father,

the Son and the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:41-42)

    c. You must be determined to live out your new life in Christ.

    (Ephesians 5:15, Matthew 18:15-17)

    d. As you see in the definition members covenant together to love God

and to serve Him. Together they want to fellowship and to honour

and obey God. With this membership come great privileges but

    also responsibilities!

    OUR CHURCH COVENANT

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord

Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and, on the profession of our faith, having been

    28

    29/42

baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we

do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly

and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in

Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this Church in knowledge,

holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its

worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and

regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the Church, and the

spread of the Gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to educate our

children in the Christian faith; to seek the salvation of our kindred and

acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings,

faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment, to avoid all

tattling, backbiting and excessive anger; to seek God's help in abstaining

from all drugs, drink, and practices which bring unwarranted harm to the

body or jeopardize our own or another's faith.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember

one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to

cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to

take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of

our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, if

possible, unite with a church of like faith where we can carry out the articles

of this confession and the spirit of this covenant.

III. What are the characteristics of the type of church (a New Testament

    B. It gives the Christian victory! As a powerful weapon, the Bible will give

you victory over sin, and temptation (Psalm 37:31, 119:11).

    C. The Bible is a guiding lamp or light to the Christian (Psalm 119:105). It

provides instructions on how to go through life, where to go, why go a

certain path, and even when to go (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)

    D. The Bible and His knowledge of the Word of God is what Jesus used to

defeat Satan three times though He is God (Matthew 4:4, 7, &10)!

II. Practical steps to your daily quiet time

    A. Choose a convenient time.

    1. I strongly suggest that you consider the early morning hours. Get

alone with God before you begin your day. You can literally start

with as little as 5 minutes a day but I would like to suggest between

    15 and 30 minutes a day

    2. If you wait until later you may get caught up in the daily hustle and

forget to get in the Bibleyour day takes over

    3. There is nothing spiritual about doing it in the morning and evening

would be fine but due to my laziness I find that if I take care of it in

the morning then I get it done. If I wait till evening I am often tiredor just rush through

    4. There is no convenient time and the Devil and the flesh will see to

    that

    B. Be consistentmake it your daily habit including Sunday. Make it a

very important part of your day (Job 23:12).

    1. Do not be legalistic with yourselfthis is not a forced thing we get

in the Bible because we want to and we love God2. If you miss a day do not feel guilty or like a failure just get back to it

    the next day.

    3. Do not even try to catch up necessarily just work at being

    consistently in the Word

    C. Always begin with prayer asking God to open your eyes and show you

great things from His Word (Psalm 119:18)

    D. Read the Bible like any other book

    1. Never use the hunt and poke method

    2. Read it in order at least by the book of the Bible you are reading

    3. You will need to read about 15 minutes and 4 chapters a day to

finish the Bible in just under a year

    E. Mark your Bible

    1. Do not be afraid to mark things in your Bible

    a. You can use different colored pens but that never worked for me

because I couldnt remember what each color meant

    b. I love to use a wide margin Bible because I can write there

    c. I do not worry about filling it up or marking it all up because I will

    simply buy a new Bible

    d. This is the most used book that I have in my house and lifeI

love it and every time I read it and mark it I learn more and it

    causes me to remember more

    2. Mark sins to avoid and make yourself a note (Colossians 3)

    3. Mark promises and pray for them (Jeremiah 33:3)

Your Daily Time with God - Prayer

    What is prayer?

    What it is not!

It is not the repetition of the same words or prayers over and over again!

    (Matthew 6:7)

Prayer is not just an emotional release or good therapy.

Prayer is not a way to force God to do what we want

Prayer is not a show of our spirituality (Matthew 6:5-6)

    What it is!

    Prayer is talking to God

Prayer is offering up desires and burdens to God with humble confidence

that we shall obtain the help we need because of Jesus (Hebrews 4:15-

    16)

Prayer is our worship addressed to the Father, in the authority of the name of

Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

    1. Finally, prayer is God's answer to need! By praying, we should know

that we already have the answer to our need (Matthew 6:7, & 8; 1 John 5:14, &15)!

    Why should we pray?

Jesus told His disciples to ask! (John 16:24)

We are commanded to pray! (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

We have not because we ask not! (James 4:2)

We are told to cast all our cares on Him! (1 Peter 5:7)Samuel said that he would sin against God if he failed to pray for them! (1

    Samuel 12:23)

    What should we pray for?

    Wisdom (James 1:5)

    35

  • 8/8/2019 Foundations (Teacher Edition)

    36/42

People in authority over us (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

    Courage (Acts 4:23-32)

All of our needs (Philippians 4:6, Psalm 34:6, 55:22)

    To avoid anxiety (Philippians 4:6-8)

What hinders our prayers from being answered?

Not asking with faith (James 1:5-7)

Asking for the wrong things! (James 4:3)

Not having a right relationship with your spouse (1 Peter 3:7)

Un-confessed sin in our lives (Psalms 66:18)

Bitterness and unforgiving spirit (Hebrews 12:15, Mark 11:25-26)

    Willful disobedience

    Not believing God

Not asking in Jesus name or authority

Many misunderstand this great promiseit is not a magical formula to get

    what you want

It is knowing what He authorizes you to pray for (John 14:13-14)

His name is His authority and relationship to God

We are to ask according to His will! (1 John 5:14-15)It is delighting in Him and what He wants so that you get the desires of your

    heart (Psalm 37:4)

    The Model Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)

Our Fatherprayer starts with a relationship with God

Which art in Heavenrecognizes who He is Godand not to be taken lightly

Hallowed be thy nameWe come recognizing that we honor and know that

His name is Holy and we want it recognized so

Thy kingdom comewe come not seeking our own will but His and we desire

for Him to return to earth and reign soon

Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heavenrecognizes that it is all about

Him and His will not me and my will. We are saying that we want Him to

    36

  • 8/8/2019 Foundations (Teacher Edition)

    37/42

be Lord and decide how and what happens in my life on earth as much

as He does in Heavenwe come respecting Him and desiring to obey

Him as much as they do where there is no sin or self will

Give us this day our daily breadwe come and lay before Him our needs for

the DAY not the WEEK because prayer is an everyday continual part of

our livesbecause we know that He who takes care of today will also

    take care of tomorrow

And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtorswe come asking

forgiveness for our failures as His children and we acknowledge and live

    that the forgiven forgive

And lead us not into temptationwe ask for His direction in our lives and

express our desire not to sin

But deliver us from evilwe ask for His protection and deliverance from

    anything bad that might happen

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Again we recognize that it is all about Him, who He is, what He is about,

we seek His power in our lives and know that it is all of Him, without Him

we could do nothing, we desire His glory and that is even the motive of

    our prayers
