    Characteristics of Fieldbus networks

    Foundation Fieldbus works on Tree or StarTopology network structures with token

    passing methodology.

    Bi-direct ionalmeans it is a duplex port; thedata can be transmitted in two directions atthe same time.

    Mult i -dropis also referred to as multi-accessand it can be interpreted as a single bus withmany nodes connected to it.

    LAS Fieldbus

    The link active scheduler (LAS) is the heartbeat of a FoundationFieldbus segment. It grants permission for every

    communication that occurs on the bus.

    The Fieldbus segment includes a single twisted-wire pair toconnect up to 32 devices, including field instruments and hostcomputers.

    Foundation Fieldbus Communication Protocol

    The FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 communication signal

    is a square waveform superimposed on a DC carrier.

    The frequency of the signal is 31.25 KHz.

    The voltage range allowed for proper operation is 9 to

    32 VDC. A typical Fieldbus device will consume 20 mA

    of current.

    Fieldbus Cable Specifications

    The specifications for Fieldbus H1 physical media are

    defined by IEC 61158-2 and the ISA-S50.02 Part 2

    Physical Layer.

    Fieldbus Wiring Validator FBT-5

    Fieldbus wiring can be tested using the FBT-5 Wiring

    Validator. It puts a DC voltage and Fieldbus signals on

    the wire pair. A Fieldbus Monitor, FBT-3 or FBT-6, is

    used to test the voltage, signal levels and noise on the

    wiring.
