Foundation Enrolments for 2019

Spaces are filling quickly and numbers need to be known so that arrangements for the best transition possible and preparation for the year can be made. We are asking that all Foundation enrolments be finalised by October 31st at the latest.

Principal Welcome back to term four everyone! It is hard to believe that we are already coming to the final stage of the year. It has been a wonderful year and we are on track to have a sensational final term. I would like to thank the parents who completed the Parent Opinion Survey last term. Results have come through now and as a staff, we will look at these, celebrate our successes and set targets for future improvement. Our results overall were exceptional. In most categories, we received over 90% satisfaction rates and in one element, the school respects my child, we received a 100% endorsement. The written comments were supportive of the school in general, commending the staff and the overall improvement levels of the school. Some suggestions around offering additional subjects and levels of class support were made, as well comments about maintaining high expectations of student behaviour. The results will be examined in depth at all levels of the school and will be used to continue to build on the excellence we are striving to attain for our students. A big part of our work this term is arranging for 2019. It is vital to our planning that we are aware of all enrolments and transfers. If you intend to enrol siblings in the school or transfer out of the school please let us know immediately. I look forward to enjoying the final term for the year with you all. Kim Laffan Principal
Kiara 5J The Story of the Shifty Unicorn and the Cheeky Little Monkey The shifty unicorn wanted to make slime in the colours of Neapolitan ice cream. Brown, pink and white. He looked everywhere in his mansion but couldn't find the magic key to unlock his secret recipe. He even looked under the kitchen sink and it was not there. He wondered if that cheeky little monkey had stolen it. That little pest was always coming over and stealing things. The unicorn decided to offer that cheeky little monkey a slice of pizza in return for the magic key. That naughty little monkey decided he wanted a cupcake instead but agreed to the trade. The shifty unicorn fetched a red velvet cupcake from the shop and he picked a small red hot chilli from his friends garden on the way back. The unicorn turned the delicious cupcake upside down and he shoved that small red hot chilli inside the bottom of the cupcake. He thought to himself that this would teach the cheeky little monkey not to steal ever again. When he returned home the monkey ate the cupcake and his face turned bright red like a fire engine and his mouth was burning like the hot sun! The unicorn said, “This will teach you a lesson. NEVER STEAL FROM ME AGAIN!!!”. The cheeky monkey promised not to steal from the unicorn ever again and he gave back the magic key as promised.

STUDENT WORK
Being On Time Matters!
This year Kilmore Primary School is focusing on student at-tendance and arriving on time at school. Over the course of the year individual students and their families have worked hard on being organised – making lunches the night before, having school clothes and school bags packed ready for the morning and making sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep. Help your class win our being on Time Matters Award by arriving at school on time. Congratulations to the students who arrive at school on time.
If you are experiencing difficulties being at school on time please feel free to contact me.

What is your child missing out on? JUST A LITTLE BIT LATE FOR SCHOOL DOESN’T SEEM MUCH BUT …..
Did you know that your child’s best learning time is the start of the school day? That is when every minute counts the most.
School starts at 8:50am. Be on time every time!

Problem of the Month
October
Put your thinking caps on everyone! It’s time to solve some maths problems. Each problem has more than one answer. How many examples can your family find? Give answer pages/posters to Miss Crowther and remember to include student/s name and grade. Happy problem solving!
Foundation Miss Davies found something
longer than a pencil. What might
it have been?
Grade 1/2 Miss Frawley was looking at the clock. The minute hand was pointing to the six. What might the time have been?
Grade 3/4 Miss George drew a picture with one line of symmetry. What might it look like?
Grade 5/6 Mrs Evans created a number pattern. The last number in the pattern was 35. What might the pattern and rule be?
Due: Wednesday 31st October
Numeracy News Our Grade 3/4 students are learning about symmetry. Something is symmetrical when one half is a mirror image of the other half. Objects might have one line of symmetry or many lines.
Students investigated examples of symmetry in everything from the Batman logo to famous buildings and created their own symmetrical masterpieces.
“Symmetry is really good because it is fun. You can make anything as long as it is exactly the same on both sides. You could make a symmetrical monster and that would be cool!” Grade 4 student.
Numeracy News continued
Can you find the letters below that have lines of symmetry? Answers next newsletter!
