(Arts Economics 2010) • Modern and Contemporary art sales account for just under 40% of the value of the British art market. (Arts Economics 2010)

The Design Industry

• The creative industries account for 5.1% of the UK’s employment. (Creative Industries Economic Report 2011) • The turnover of UK design businesses totalled £15 billion, an increase of 15% since 2005. (Design Council 2010) • The turnover of UK contemporary craft businesses is estimated at £457million. In comparison the total revenue for London West End theatres were £512m in 2010, while spending on music downloads in the UK was £316 million in 2010. (Crafts Council 2012)

• Fine Art is rooted in a tradition of change. It constantly challenges its own boundaries and has often reinvented itself • Fine Art is non functional in the sense that design is functional. It is centred around artist led initiatives as opposed to client / designer relationships. • Fine Artists set their own agendas which tend to focus on a developing set of concerns explored over an extended time scale (sometimes an artist’s entire career).

Entry Requirements You should normally be at least 18 years old with a minimum of one A level plus three GCSE passes at grade C or above, or equivalent qualifications*. These must include GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above. You should also be able to present a portfolio of work which demonstrates your interests and ability in art and design. *Applications are welcomed from students studying for European or International qualifications.

When to Apply

Due to the high number of applications, we request that applications are submitted ideally by Friday 11th December 2015. In order to guarantee that your application will be considered for interview it must reach the Admissions Department by 15th January 2016. Applications received after 15th

January 2016 will be progressed to interview on a first come first served basis according to availability.

Interviews: preparation and scheduling

Interviews will take place between February and March 2016. You will normally receive 5-10 days notice of your interview date. If you have completed ‘dates not available’ in Section 1 of the application form we will endeavour to accommodate your request. Interview and portfolio guidance can be found on our website

Interview Outcomes The Admissions Department will send you a letter within 20 working days of your interview. The outcome will be one of the following: •  an unconditional offer

Fees & Finance (UK/EU)

Home students under the age of 19 at the start of the course will be entitled to free tuition. The fees for the Foundation Diploma in 2015/16 are £2,085 for students aged 19 and over. Students aged 19 and over at the start of the course will be liable for fees unless it is their first full level 3 qualification. The Foundation Diploma course is not funded through Higher Education Student Loans. The fees for the Foundation Diploma in 2015/16 are £5,421 for students aged 24 and over. Students aged 24 and over at the start of the course are eligible to apply for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.
