In dem anspruchsvollen Spannungsfeld zwi-

schen Denkmalschutz und zeitgemäßer Nutzung

entstanden auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen

Pferdeklinik aus dem Jahre 1904 im Hamburger

Stadtteil Sternschanze neue Büros und Ateliers.

Die stark baufälligen Gebäude auf dem etwas

versteckt liegenden Hinterhofgrundstück stan-

den größtenteils seit mehreren Jahren leer und

wurden unter Erhaltung historischer Elemente

umfassend saniert. Ein viergeschossiger Neubau

schließt an die Brandwand des prägnanten histo-

rischen Backsteingebäudes im Nachbarhof an,

In a balancing act of conflicting priorities in histo-

ric building protection and contemporary needs,

new office spaces and ateliers were created on

the premises of a former horse clinic dating from

1904, located in the Sternschanze District, Ham-

burg. The dilapidated buildings of the slightly hid-

den site in a backyard, most of which had been

vacant for several years, have been refurbished

while preserving historic elements. A four-storey

in seiner Ausrichtung setzt er den Städtebau des

Quartiers fort. So entsteht ein großer, begrünter

Innenhof auf einer neuen Tiefgarage, dessen

optischen Mittelpunkt eine große, alte und be-

sonders schützenswerte Linde bildet. Das feine

Relief der Backsteinfassade nimmt die besondere

industrielle Atmosphäre des Ortes auf und stützt

die Ensemblewirkung, die harmonische Einheit

von Alt und Neu.

greened inner courtyard on top of a new under-

ground car park, a particularly valuable large, old

lime tree provides the visual centre. The delicate

relief of the brickwork façade takes reference from
