Baptisms: Celebrated on the first Sunday of the month at 12:30 or 3:00pm. Parents should call the rectory at least four weeks in advance, and must attend instructions, which are held on the third Thursday of the month. Church Law requires that only Catholics in good standing are eligible to be Godparents. No Baptisms will be scheduled during Lent. Anointing of the Sick: We offer this sacrament to those who are seriously ill, at home or in the hospital. We urge you to contact the office before someone goes to the hospital for an operation. (A priest may not be available later) Ministry of the Sick: Holy Communion will be brought to the sick, upon request. The bedridden or chronically ill can be placed on the “Eucharistic Ministers” visitation schedule. Wedding: Engaged couples must make arrangements in person, at the office at least six months in advance. Parish Membership: We welcome all new members to our parish. Please register at the office, by phone or in person. Registration forms are available at the entrances to the Churches. Also, please notify the office if your address has changed or if you would like to be added to the weekly envelope system.

Events this Week
Sunday Second Collection: Catholic Relief Services Wednesday Thrift shop open from 9:30am-12:30pm Saturday Thrift shop open from 9:30am-12:30pm Sunday Second Collection: Archdiocesan Tax LENTEN SEASON: On Friday evenings during LENT at 7:00pm we will have the STATIONS OF THE CROSS both in English and Spanish. REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK: “He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.” Matthew 25:32. It won’t work…I’m afraid to fail…there’s not enough money…it’s not meant to happen… it takes too much time. Excuses! While excuses come disguised as perfectly rational, realistic, and innocent thoughts to help us feel better about our behaviors, more often than not they prevent us from doing what we really want to do in life and keep us in a place we don’t want to be. Stop making excuses and act! Change the “why I can’t” and start living a life that shows you can. Rephrase your can’ts into cans and watch new opportunities arise. Excuses are a dime a dozen. As long as “Excuses for Everything” holds us down, we’ll just remain there, growing sicker and sicker. And simply put, that just settling for less than God’s best. Stay the course. During Lent, if you’re working to stay healthy or tackling a bad behavior or habit, keep moving forward and looking at the big picture. Say “Jesus, help me to make an effort today, not an excuse.” Amen. This Spring’s “40 Days for Life” campaign will be held March 1 – April 9, 2017. “40 Days for Life” is a peaceful, highly-focused, non-denominational initiative that focuses on 40 days of prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil at abortion facilities, and educational outreach with the goal of protecting mothers and their children from abortion. To learn more about the 40 Days for Life campaign, visit: www.40daysforlife.com Oppose Assisted Suicide: Legislation has been introduced in the New York State Legislature that would allow doctors to legally prescribe a lethal dose of pills at the request of a terminally ill patient. While proponents call these bills “death with dignity” and “patient self-determination,” in reality they are unnecessary, flawed and dangerous. Legalizing assisted suicide would endanger, elderly, disabled, and vulnerable people. It will send the message to others that suicide is acceptable and lead to an increase in suicides. It will leave people with depression and other mental illnesses untreated. And it will turn doctors and other health professionals from healers into killers. Please inform yourself about the dangers in this bill by visiting NewYorkersForLife.org. Immigration Meeting will be held on March 12 at 3:00pm at Assumption Church in Peekskill in Spanish. Lawyers will be there to answer any questions you may have regarding immigration questions as to President Trump’s Executive order regarding deportation, police arrest and any other concerns you may have. The sick are comforted just knowing that we pray for them. Please remember these members of our Parish Family,
who are ill, in your prayers: Mickey Foster, Beverly Lewis, Ray Mackey, Aidan McElgunn, Sheila Dahlke Moore, John
Mecca, Richard Curinga, Susan Rose, Michael Boddie, John Boddie, James Boddie, Kathy Farrey, Art Farrey Sr., Ed Lent,
Margaret Hesselgrave, Colin Lent, Eddie Lent, Sean Flaherty, Joao Manino Vaz, Marilu Selicco, Robin Pasquale and Kesley
Berger who are sick.
The winner of the 26 Week Club for week #14 was: #110, Joseph McGuire. The Seller was the Church.
FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
First Reading: Genesis 2:7-9, 3:1-7 This passage from Genesis narrates the creation of man, the temptation by the serpent, and the fall of Adam and Eve. Second Reading: 1 Romans 5:12-19 Paul tells the Romans that Adam’s disobedience brought sin and death to the world, but Christ’s dying on the cross for us will bring us salvation and life. Gospel: Matthew 4:1-11 In preparation for His ministry, Jesus goes into the desert to fast and pray for 40 days. There He is tempted by the devil to give evidence of His miraculous powers, but Jesus resists the devil saying, “Away with you Satan: You shall do homage to the Lord your God; Him alone shall you adore.”
