Architecture and wood construction in the Tyrol (Austria and Italy)

In partnership with the Wood Construction Forum, Ikos Consultant offers an educational trip / interprofessional course in the Tyrol from April 28 to May 1, 2016. In the program, visits are alternated with lectures in situ or indoors, allowing for a discovery of industrial production sites and construction companies, of construction sites and fi nished buildings; the objective being to benefi t from professionals’ feedback on projects. This initiative situates itself in the continuity of the Forum’s seminars as it welco-mes Italy as this edition’s guest country.

6th International Wood Construction Forum Cité internationale | Centre de Congrès de Lyon April 13 - 15, 2016

COP21, the assets of woodThe December 2015 Parisian conference on climate change was heralded as a success. In its wake, we are called to quotidian action. The act of building engages us for decades, precisely those in which global warming will raise the planet’s temperatures over 2°C. Good news: wood offers the possibility of progress towards constructive practices with positive effects. But with several conditions: wood cannot be relied upon for everything; rather, it should be intelligently com-bined with insulating materials, especially bio-based materials, and at times with traditional materials – not to mention the possibilities of adapting the existing material. None of this will be realized without the powers in charge come to awa-reness of all of the potentials that wood offers in modernizing construction. This is precisely why the Forum convenes once again, for the sixth consecutive year, to gather together the contracting authorities and decision-makers in the wood con-struction industry. After Beaune, Besançon and Nancy, the Forum will take place this year in Lyon, the new capital of a major region in wood construction. This move to the capital of the Gauls will be hailed in by an innovation: several scienti-fi cally oriented seminars will compliment the ten thematically related seminars to develop a deeper understanding of the technical and architectural information.
