We celebrate the year’s accomplishments through continued service to the community. This year has been one of transition for WestMass ElderCare. Priscilla Chalmers led the agency for many years and we wish her the best in retirement. Roseann Martoccia joined the organization with experience in home and community based industry along with tremendous respect for WMEC. WMEC is strong and our staff are professional, committed to the mission and provide quality service to each consumer and family with whom we work. 2018 was a year of continued growth for the agency which reflects the demographic of increasing numbers of older people, especially those over age 85. Families and caregivers do so much for their loved ones, however, they need support to care for loved ones and to navigate complex

health care and service delivery systems. We also see the growing need for support for persons with dementia and those who care for them. Areas of collaboration, growth and new initiatives are highlighted here, we are grateful for the services provided in all agency programs—Information and Referral, Options Counseling, Caregiver Supports, Home Care, Housing Supports, Adult Family Care, Nutrition, Personal Care Management, Ombudsman, Money Management, Senior Care Options, One Care, and Care Alliance of Western Massachusetts (CAWM). Beginning last September and for months following, WMEC staff collaborated with Enlace

de Familias and many other local and regional entities to assist those in need impacted by Hurricane Maria. Planning and design for implementation of the Long Term Services & Supports Community Partner Program through Care Alliance of Western MA was underway. The Rainbow Supper Club had an active year offering dinner and programs monthly to the LGBT elder community and allies in partnership with the Holyoke Council on Aging. WMEC actively participated in workforce development initiatives and Age and Dementia Friendly work in the region. We remain energized about the collaborations that we have made and will continue to make with health care partners, our vendor network, local communities and other community based organizations, as we strive to serve the diverse needs of our region. As always, we are person-centered in our approach to care. We are grateful for the continued support of local officials, the state and federal legislative delegation and our community partners as we continue to assist individuals to stay at home and in their communities. WMEC is so appreciative of the guidance from the Board of Directors, Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, Money Management Advisory Council along with volunteers who give of their time and skills and staff who make the work all happen.
