• Capture of about 400 000 tons CO2 yearly

• Removes both fossil and biological CO2

(appr. 50 % BIO-CCS)

• CO2 transport to port via emission free trucks

• Connection to the district heating grid giveseffective utilization of waste heat

• 90% cleaning of CO2 and technology supplierwith full scale experience (Shell Cansolv)

• Pilot testing at Klemetsrud ongoing

Why waste?

• NO contradiction between WtE and recycling; statistics show that Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands and Norway are countries with bothhigh recycling rates and high WtE rate

• CCS on WtE as an export possibility for EU when the world moves away from landfills to sorting, recycling and energy recovery

• CCS on WtE is the next step towards sustainablewaste treatment

• Today, CCS is a climate measure and a choice of value/CSR – Klemetsrud will be a starting point for learning, technology development and cost cuts

What’s in it for the Waste-to-Energy industry?

Page 6: Fortum Oslo Varme AS - AHK Norwegen · 2019-04-30 · Fortum Oslo Varme AS Jannicke Gerner Bjerkås CCS Director Fortum Oslo Varme CCS from waste incineration part of tomorrow’sclimate

• IPCC and Paris agreement states CCS as a crucial technology in order to reach 1,5o target

• CO2 storage below seabed is a safe, proven and effective solution to mitigate climate change

• CCS on WtE will give negative CO2-emissions (BECCS/BIOCCS), and can neutralize other emissions that are difficult to reduce/remove

• The Fortum project shows how cities can cut emissions, utilize local resources and mitigate climate change from waste handling as part of sustainable city solutions
