Dear Parents and Carers I hope you all enjoyed a well-earned rest over the half-term break and that you managed to enjoy one of the many firework displays which took place around the county. Today at Victory, is the culmination of the work which has taken place to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War 1. The children participated so well in the Poppy Run before half-term and enjoyed the theatre performance which taught them so much about the trenches. The display of their work to create poppies for the reception area looks magnificent and I know they will complete their 2 minutes of silence at 11am with due respect. Thank you on behalf of the Royal British Legion to all children who have purchased poppies or remembrance related goods from reception to raise funds. We have had a busy fortnight here, as ever, with many exciting trips and experiences for the young people. A group of GCSE students visited the Theatre Royal to watch the National Theatre production of Macbeth and our Year 11 students enjoyed their annual weekend away at Kingswood to both revise and to bond as a team. They had an excellent experience and I thank the staff who supported them whole-heartedly. We were privileged to be asked by the Local Authority to support them in an audit of mental health services for young people. Over the course of the day, many of our students were interviewed and contributed to discussions about the quality of services in our area. They were all an absolute credit to you and really helped the auditors understand what young people need. Thank you to Juliet Cole and her team of library elves who ran another really successful themed night for Halloween. Thank you to Sue in the kitchen for making such amazing Halloween themed cakes for everyone to enjoy too! On the subject of great food, we were delighted to help Mr Liao, our Mandarin teacher from Norwich School, to run a Chinese dumpling-making activity with the Mandarin students and the Parent and Child class! They tasted amazing... If you'd like to join the Mandarin group, please email Miss Curson on [email protected] - it's not too late! We also loved hosting a curry-making cookery group with famous local chef, Charlie Hodson who was AMAZING! We have asked Charlie if he will come back again to lead sessions with the children, so watch this space... Another Parent and Child class we will be running is Life Drawing with Mrs Mizon - our Sixth Form students and select Year 11s have really benefitted from this great opportunity. It has supported their artistic skills, as well as helping them understand what real bodies look like - and not the filtered ones on social media! We have really enjoyed having children's authors Alex Scarrow and C T Furlong at Victory this week, launching a story-writing challenge. How wonderful for the children to meet real authors who are making a career from their writing skills. Finally, thank you to all students who created some beautiful entries to the OAT Christmas Card Competition - as ever, we will also use the best 4 for our academy Christmas cards! We will be announcing winners shortly. Thank you for your support of our academy - I wish you all a safe and happy weekend.
