Yankees stave off Miracle comeback, win again in extrasFor the second consecutive night at Hammond Stadium, the Tampa Yankees outlasted the Fort Myers Miracle in an extra inning affair. After Logan Wade’s grand slam in the bottom of the eighth capped of a six-run comeback, the Yankees and Miracle went scoreless in the ninth. In the top of the tenth, Todd Van Steensel retired the first two hitters, but then gave up a hit and two walks to load the bases. Brandon Peterson came in and got a quick 0-2 count on Angelo Gumbs. Then, Peterson dropped the ball while his foot was on the rubber to balk in a run, 7-6. Gumbs struck out. The Miracle could not score in the bottom of the tenth, stranding the tying run at second base. Fort Myers has now lost three in a row and the last two in extra innings.

Goodrum off to a hot start in Fort MyersAfter spending the 2014 season with the Miracle and playing in 122 games, Niko Goodrum was the most experienced player to return to Fort Myers for the 2015 season. In eight games, Niko has picked up multiple hits in four contests, going 11-for-33 with six doubles, a home run, three runs knocked in and five run scored. Last year, Goodrum finished the season with a .249 clip, but led the entire Twins farm system in stolen bases with 35 and was caught just four times.

Knecht gets second opportunity in Twins organizationAfter three years and 349 games with the Dunedin Blue Jays in the Florida State League, the Toronto organization decided to let Marcus Knecht go late in Spring Training this year. The Twins signed Knecht with one week remain-ing in the spring and Marcus broke camp with the Miracle.

The Twins likely had a good impression of Knecht after he terrorized Fort Myers pitching for three years. Marcus was 26-for-73 (.356) with five doubles, two triples, four home runs, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. In 19 games at Ham-mond Stadium as an opponent, Knecht was 11-for-33 with five extra-base hits. In his first game at The Bill. With a Miracle jersey on, Knecht is 6-for-12 (.500) at home with two extra-base hits and three RBI. In six games total, Marcus is 8-for-26 and has scored five runs.

Logan Wade hits first grand slam of 2015On Friday, April 17 versus the Tampa Yankees, Logan Wade sent a 394-foot blast into the right field drink rails with the bases loaded for his first home run in a Miracle jersey. The grand slam was Fort Myers’ first of the 2015 cam-paign after recording a staggering team record of eight during the regular season last year. The Miracle also got a postseason grand slam from Jason Kanzler in the FSL South Divisional Playoff first game against Bradenton. Adam Brett Walker holds the record for most grand slams in a season and a career for the Miracle with three; all in 2014.

The Miracle have now hit a grand slam in 60 games and own a 54-6 record in those games. The extra inning loss to Tampa on April 17 stopped a streak of 10 consecutive wins in games in which the Miracle had hit a slam.
