Background• The first Strategic Sustainability Goal Workshop was held in Oct 2011.

Participants included the Garrison Staff and Installation Tenants. During this workshop, the following was achieved:• Identified Core Activities• Conducted a Strengths, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats Analysis• Identified systems-based resolutions concepts• Developed challenge statements and identified stakeholders

• The second Strategic Sustainability Goal Workshop was held in Dec 2011. Participants included Garrison Staff, Installation Tenants, and Community Partners. During this workshop, the Goals were finalized and Team Leads identified for each Goal.

• The third Workshop was held in Mar 2012. Attendees included Garrison Staff, Installation Tenants, and Community Partners. During this workshop, the Goals were revised, objectives identified and work began on action plans.

energized and adaptive workforce• Quality of Life: By 2035, Fort Lee engages with our partners to

be the most highly recognized model for Installation sustainability in the region.

A resilient and health workforce A holistic approach to develop, improve and maintain the Fort Lee workforce, providing opportunities to improve the overall health and well-being. The Fort Lee workforce is energetic, pro-active, prepared, positive, empowered and engaged.

Making existing regional assets and improve communications about and between Ft. Lee and the region

Advertise the benefits of living in the region: health care, affordable cost of living, recreation, education opportunities, etc. Establish additional and foster existing models of communication between Fort Lee and the surrounding region.

highly recognized model for Installation sustainability in the region.• Goal Description: Fort Lee has a world-class services,

infrastructure, and training and actively engages with a unified Greater Fort Lee Regional Community that drives, achieves and maintains sustainable development that makes it the most requested installation for duty assignments. The community operates without barriers, with mutual support, cross-functionality and transparency to achieve sustainable transportation, recreation opportunities, equal opportunities, quality in education, poverty and crime eradication in a live, work and play environment that protects natural resources.

Supporting Objectives DescriptionPartnerships between Fort Lee and the greater Fort Lee region supplement installation services and enhance Quality of Life (QOL)

Fort Lee will partner with service providers in the greater regional community to leverage regional resources to enhance QOL and provide a complete range of high-quality services to service members, civilians, and families

Projected services infrastructure is complete Future year development plan infrastructure is complete. Services include emergency services, chapels, fitness centers, swimming pools, centralized education centers.

Fort Lee Partners with a Unified region to achieve sustainable community

Identify and develop a regional working group that addresses issues that affect everyone in the area. Improve communication with greater Fort Lee region to support economic growth. Also develop Fort Lee service to address public requests and questions concerning the installation.

Central Virginia premiere multi-modal transportation system

Develop and execute a plan to create options for reduced traffic coming to post through regional mass transit and carpooling

Sustainable development Utilize sustainable design and low impact development to maximize utilization of available land, create green spaces and reduce the overall non-pervious footprint.

emergency services meets full spectrum operations and future growth needs and to protect critical infrastructure areas that are adaptable to future needs.

Supporting Objectives DescriptionsProvide a state of the art E-911 interoperability that provides the highest standard of emergency services by 2017

Build a stand along facility of supporting the system and personnel. Design and create the infrastructure to support the system. Developer operational training to meet standards. Develop maintenance plan. Conduct community awareness training.

All hazard standardization detection identification and warning capabilities synchronized with Fort Lee and surrounding community by 2020

ACP identification detection system. Provide emergency warning systems mass notification system through Fort Lee. Ensure monitoring for all MEVAs. Acquire monitoring for all surveillance systems.

Infrastructure that is adaptive to future requirements by 2020

Identify and prioritize vulnerabilities and gaps for critical infrastructure. Establish partnerships with local communities to secure utilities and other critical Fort Lee needs. Upgrade radio infrastructure. Repair and maintain perimeter fence.
