Our mission is to provide activities that will get our members out of the house. The Coronavirus is the antithesis of that. Because of it, we are forced to stay home and avoid contact with others. The April Surfer had a full calendar of events, but sadly we had to cancel every one of them because of the lock down.

Then along came Zoom! This nifty online app makes it possible to see and talk to other members from the safety of our own homes. It enables us to do online events which will bring us together on our various wifi devices. Once some members realized the potential of Zoom, online group meetings began. (PRESIDENT from page 1)Wangberg held History Group meetings and Clark Powers hosted Monday night mixers. I want to thank them all for thinking outside the box (no pun intended) and offering these activities to us. You will be receiving email invitations to upcoming meetings now that everyone hosting them has become experienced with Zoom.

I started a Prime Gentlemen Facebook page a few weeks ago. You don’t have to have your own Facebook page to join. Just go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/1084160251965363/.

I hope that, when you do, you contribute your thoughts or messages for other members to read.

Many thanks to Carl Hill, Tomcat Pence, Ken South and all the other members who posted videos, photos, memes and all sorts of items to cheer us up as we self quarantine. Let’s hope that things open up in a safe, measured and carefully thought out way so that we can all see each other in the flesh again.

Stay safe and don’t touch anyone!

GENTLEMAN OF THE MONTH ● Ken South, interviewer

In 1949, Harry S. Truman was POTUS and a Boeing B-50 Superfortress c o m p l e t e d t h e fi r s t n o n - s t o p circumnavigation of the world. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was established and RCA perfected a system for broadcasting color television, while the first Volkswagen Beetle was sold. Mule Train, by Frankie Laine, was at the top of the charts and people ran to movie theaters to see Twelve O'Clock High, staring Gregory Peck.

In the small town of Oldtown, Idaho (pop. 184), on August 21st Mr. June was born. He was the third eldest son who was then followed by a sister. He spent his first 8

years of schooling in Oldtown and his high school years over the state line in Washington. He graduated in 1967.

A year after graduation, Mr. J enlisted in the United States Air Force for what became a 26 year-long career.

Over the course of his active duty service, he specialized in air traffic control and served as a Senior Enlisted Advisor. In 1992, he acquired his Master of Public Administration degree and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1994. Mr. J also married and had two wonderful sons. One became a police officer and the other worked in the construction trades. He separated from his wife in 1999, but remains in a loving relationship with his sons, who are supportive of his new life.

Following his active duty career, he worked for the Air Force as a civilian for 20 years. He specialized in air space des ign and a i rpo r t managemen t andultimately retired in 2015.

During his 46 years of service to his country, Mr. J worked in several states in the US and traveled much of the rest of the world with postings in Vietnam (where, he was badly injured during the war), Germany, South Korea, Great Britain and the middle east.

In 2014, Mr. J purchased a home in P o m p a n o B e a c h a n d , d u r i n g i t s

construction, stayed with his sister, a 40-year resident of Boynton Beach, FL.

While on a pleasure trip and extended stay in Southeast Asia, he met Aziel, a Philippine native. Aziel is a nursing professional who was working as a high school teacher in Bangkok, Thailand. Aziel became the “love of his life” and both later moved to south Florida and were married at the Fort Lauderdale UCC church in June, 2018. They are keen on traveling, movies and trying out new recipes in their kitchen.

Mr. J was a member of Prime Timers in Kansas and joined Prime Gentlemen when he moved to Florida.
