WESTERLY – A turn of the century mansion once owned by the Breck shampoo creator has sold in Watch Hill, at $7.6 million.

The ninebedroom house at 9 Ninigret Ave., built in 1899, was sold last week, according to a news release. It is set on a bluff overlookingtwo ponds and the dunes of East Beach.
The house was the former summer home of Edward J. and Gertrude O. Breck. Edward J. Breck was founder and chairman of the BreckShampoo Co. While entertaining, the Brecks would use a sitting room off the grand foyer for an orchestra, and the foyer itself as a dancefloor, according to seller’s agent Mark Gauvian.
Property records indicate the house was last owned by Mark W. Izard, who purchased the home for $2.35 million from the Breck family in1998.
