Writing the Script

Keep it Simple For a news program or straight

sports talk your opinion does not matter. Same goes with a commercial.

Formats to keep in mind

Use ANNCR when ever you need an announcer to say something. Or when you need a narrator.

Use a – (double dash) whenever you want a pause.

Capitalize speaking characters on the left column and what they say on the right.

Time your script when you are done writing it.

In Class Exercise

Select a 20 to 30 second radio commercial. (You can find these on Youtube)

Listen to it a couple of times. Then using one of the radio formats,

write the script for the commercial.

sure it’s 30 seconds. Due Tuesday: Start working on your midterm –

Select a front page story from the newspaper/TV news. From the story format an idea for an ad, PSA or short script. For your midterm (Due Thursday) You will use

your idea and write it for the radio, TV and the Internet.
