Prof Dirk Kotzé is a lecturer at Unisa since the beginning of 1988 in the Department of Political

Sciences. His main fields of specialization are South African Politics and Political Conflict

Resolution. He was the Secretary and Treasurer of the South African Association of Political

Studies for eight years until 2014. He was also a member of the Executive Committee and one of

the Vice-Presidents of the International Political Science Association. He studied at the

Universities of Stellenbosch, Pretoria and Wits in Political Science. In addition to lecturing at

Unisa, he also lectured Politics for the Journalism students part-time for 12 years at TUT.

International lecturing and visits at Northwestern University in Chicago, at Uppsala University in

Sweden and at the Middle Eastern Technical University in Ankara, Turkey were conducted.

In terms of student elections he was one of the commission members of the Unisa Broad

Transformation Forum (UBTF) in 1996 which established the first SRC at Unisa. He served as

the first chair of Unisa’s own IEC in 1998 and thereafter also in 2005. He was also a member of

the Unisa Electoral Tribunal during the SRC elections in 2011/12 and 2014.

His publications on elections in South Africa include book chapters on party funding (2004) and

on COPE’s participation in the 2011 election, journal articles in the Journal of African Elections

and EISA’s Election Update in 2004 and 2009. He was used by the media as a panelist during

the elections in 1995, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006, 2011 and 2014.

Ms. Anna Lefatshe Moagi is a young academic a feminist post-colonial scholar her research interest

include Gender Studies, Black Feminist Thought, Youth Development, Race and Political Philosophy. She

has researched widely and written book chapters on issues pertaining to women studies in Africa and

International Relations. Her interest also encompass activism around global perceptive on international

law- including advocacy on violations of human rights. Ms. Moagi is a member of the Young People in

International Affairs (YPIA); her interest includes reviewing scholarly publications and consulting on

policy programmes for organisations such as African Union 2063 National Youth Consultative Forum,

Black Management Forum (BMF) student chapter, and United Nations Development Programme

(UNDP). She currently serves as a Research Associate for the Wiphold-Brigalia Bam Chair in Electoral

Democracy in Africa at Unisa. She has presented academic papers at local and international conferences

including in New Zealand, China, Zimbabwe and United States of America. In 2014 she was listed as the

top 35 Young Africans under 35, by the Young People in International Affairs (YPIA). A nominee of The

Future Africa Award (TFAA) (2015), category in Public Service and also Be the Change Nomination, 2016,

individual category. She is currently studying towards a PhD.

Brief Profile of Adv. Sipho Gideon Mantula Sipho Gideon Mantula was born in Montshioa Township, Mahikeng, North West Province. He enrolled his early learning education in Ipeleng Primary School, Redibone Middle School and Kebalepile High School. His passion in Afrikan politics, media and law developed at an early age. He graduated with an LLB degree (Law degree) in 2006 with University of Johannesburg (UJ) then Vista Soweto University. Sipho Mantula has worked as an Investigator with the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) in 2008 and 2010-2012 respectively. Further worked for the South African Human Rights Commission in 2009 on a special project focusing on the South African Constitutional Values and issues of Racism, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance Adv. Mantula has been assigned and deployed in various election observer missions in the African Continent under the then South African Government Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Southern African Development Community (SADC), African Union (AU) and University of South Africa:

South Africa 2014- National and Provincial Elections Sipho Gideon Mantula is currently working as an assistant researcher for the Institute for Dispute Resolution in Africa (IDRA) focusing on Electoral Dispute Resolution Community-based research in Local Government Elections. Adv. Mantula has enrolled for his Master’s Degree on Human Rights with the University of South Africa (College of Law). Sipho Gideon Mantula loves soccer, travelling the African Continent and listening to reggae music and African Jazz sounds.
