PROCESS DESCRIPTION
The Sewage Treatment System being proposed by us is SMBR Based technology. Suspended Media
Bio Reactor (SMBR)(MMBR) is emerging as a clear choice for STP’s all across the sector for various
reasons like:
Less Area Requirement.
No Sludge Recycle, monitoring of F/M ratio etc. hence easy to operate Minimal moving parts thus
lesser maintenance requirements.Flexibility to correct the performance by just adding the media in a
reactor or increasing the Air quantity. No more costly replacements. The STP being proposed by us has
following steps incorporated as a part of our system
Bar Screen: The System is provided with a Bar Screen to remove the objects like plastics, pouches,
metal pieces etc.
Equalization: Equalization of effluents is essential to make a uniform mixture for further treatment. To
achieve this air is bubbled in the first chamber through air grid. In smaller systems this is achieved by
taking help of turbulence of the incoming stream.
SMBR (Suspended Media Bio Reactor) (MMBR) : This is a very important part of treatment process
where Oxygen from the air is transferred to the liquid with the help of Air Grid.
A specially designed plastic media are filled in the tank (to the required level). During the treatment
this media facilitates attached growth. This also ensures that the required MLSS (Mixed Liquor
Suspended Solids) are maintained at the required level (3500 – 5000 p.m.). The residence time of the
reactor tank is considered in such a way that there is enough time for treatment in the reactor. A blower
is provided to supply air to the Grid.
Settling Chamber: After Solid Liquid separation in SMBR reactor, the liquid is taken in the Settling
Chamber. The Settling Chamber is provided with Tube Packs in the top section of the tank. The
Bottom portion is with sufficient Slope to ensure the accumulation of suspended solids. There are no
moving parts in this section.
Sludge Handling: A Sludge pump is provided to periodically remove the Solids accumulated at the
bottom of Settler Chamber. The Sludge is pumped to a Sludge Holding tank which is provided to hold
Form 1 & 1A for proposed Residential and Commercial Project “Horizon at Wakad” by

Town/Tehsil –Mulshi, District-Pune

the sludge in rainy season. The Sludge holding tank size is usually designed considering 2-3 months
storage. From sludge holding tank, concentrated sludge will be pumped to proposed Filter Press .
Filtrated from Filter press will be recycled in Equalization tank. The Sludge Holding tank is provided
by Air pipe to facilitate complete removal of sludge and to tackle odour nuisance if it occurs.
Filtration : The water from the settling chamber is taken clear water tank from where it is pumped to
set of 2 filters in series. The first filter has a specific combination of media like Gravels, Pebbles,
Filtration Sand to ensure proper filtration. The next filter has Activated Carbon media of higher (1200)
Iodine Value which absorb colour & odour of filtered water. The Carbon beds also ensures further
polishing of BOD. Backwash water from both filters will be recycled in Equalization Tank.
Disinfection: Ozonization System will be provided after ACF in Treated Water Tank for disinfection
of treated sewage water.
Treated water achieved out of such treatment is suitable for gardening as well as toilet flushing.
2.2.14 What on-site facilities are provided for the collection, treatment & safe disposal of sewage?
(Give details of the quantities of wastewater generation, treatment capacities with technology
& facilities for recycling and disposal)
The sewage will be collected from 266 Nos. tenements. The quantity of sewage is about 88.56 % of
domestic water consumption. The waste water generated from the proposed activity shall be
domestics. Sewage will be treated in the sewage treatment plant of 180 KLD. The treated sewage will
be recycled for flushing & gardening.
