Impact of Economic activities on EnvironmentFORESTRY
What do you think of when you hear “Forest” ?
What do you think of when you hear “Forest” ?
A place with trees…
Where animals
like bears, lion and raccoons etc. live…
A place where we hunt …
Introduction
A Forest is a community of trees, shrubs, herbs and associated plants and organisms that cover a considerable area that use oxygen, carbon dioxide, water and soil nutrients as the community attains maturity and reproduces itself.
Forest Economics
FOREST economics is the application of economic principles to a wide range of subjects extending from management of the various forest resources through the processing, marketing and consumption of forest products.
Role of Forests in Economy:Forests contribute to the economic development of a country because they provide goods and services to the people and industry.
-WOOD:• Fuel.• Raw materials for various
industries.• Timber for furniture.• Used in packaging of different
articles like fruits, tea etc.• For preparing matches, sport
goods etc.-Minor forest products:Canes, gums, resins, dyes, medicines, fibers etc. They also provide food like tuber, roots, leaves, fruits, meat from birds and other animals.
Role of Forests in Economy:
-Employment Opportunities: -Revenue Receipts: (the process of setting forest charges)
-Foreign Exchange Earners:Forest products like essential oils, resins and dyes find
market in foreign countries. Crores are earned in foreign exchange by selling lac, turpentine oil and sandal wood oil to abroad.
Pakistan’s GDP from forestsAbout 4.72 million hectares or 5.36 percent of Pakistan's land mass is covered with forestsForest rents (% of GDP) in Pakistan was last measured at 0.89 in 2013,
according to the World Bank.
Impacts of Forest Economy on Environment:-It destroys the habitat of animals and birds.-It causes floods.
-It causes green house gases build-up.-It can limit the supply of wood or timber.
-It can affect the discovery of new herbal medicines.
-It affects water cycle.-It may hinder the production of future medicines.
-It causes soil erosion.
-It introduces countless environmental and community harms.-It causes a domino of unfavorable effects.
(Deforestation can cause a domino effect(chain reaction) on the whole planet, including global climate change, indigenous people annihilation and biodiversity extinction. The death of plants and animals can lead to a partial loss of human life)
-It only renders a short time to lose all forests. (it is a very likely possibility that the planet will lose all rain forests in as little as 100 years. And if this happens, all of the species of plants and animals that are native to them will be lost as well)
Conclusion
From this presentation it has been concluded that forests are of great importance for the economy of a country but this way of economy also effects the environment very badly and causes many environmental problems. So, the growth rate of forests should be greater than falling them down for sustainable development.
