In my second-year placement with the Forensic Investigation
Unit of the Mount Forest police force, I got to process a ton of
evidence from break and enters, firearm evidence and video
evidence from a drunk driver charge, and participated in a
penetrating radar test on a missing persons case. And I had
access to old and cold-case files.

Trents Forensic Science professionaldegree program integrates the study of
investigative practice and theory withboth science and law. It is designed andtaught with the support of the Centre
for Law and Justice at Fleming College inPeterborough, giving students access to anarray of forensic practitioners who enrich
their classes with the latest forensic theoryand practice.
Year oneintroduces the basic conceptsof forensics through a case-based courseintegrating the use of scientific evidence,
critical argument, and reporting media.In year two, students learn forensictechniques and legal procedures. Year three
introduces new forensic techniques, a crime scene investigation course, and begins
in-depth study of forensic DNA techniques. Year fourof the program provides anopportunity to become a researcher and a practitioner through independent study,
thesis research, or a community-based research project. Graduates will receive a
Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science (B.Sc.F.S.).
Professional training in intriguing and exciting places
As a student in Trents B.Sc.F.S. program, you will gain real-world experience inyour second year of study through a placement in the field. Since this program
began as the first of its kind in 2004, students have held placements in Barbados,California, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and throughoutOntario. These have included work in police agencies, law firms, crown attorneys
offices, hospitals, forensic science labs, vet offices, fire investigations and forensicdocument analysis companies.
